Staal Accompanies Team to DC

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

staalSteve Zipay at Blue Notes reports that Marc Staal accompanied the team on their flight to Washington DC this morning meaning he hasn't exhibited any concussion symptoms from the borderline dirty hit he received from his brother Eric last night.

Zipay adds that Staal also apparently wasn't limping on the twisted knee that he injured in the first period.

It's unclear whether he'll practice tomorrow in advance of Friday's game against the Caps.

...so far so good. Hope to see him back in there chasing Ovechkin around the ice Friday night.

Hagelin Making a Name for Himself

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

hagelinCasandra Pagni at The Michigan Daily has an outstanding feature on Rangers 2007 draft pick Carl Hagelin...

Legendary Michigan coach Red Berenson said this about Hagelin after he scored the game tying goal in regulation and winning goal in overtime, both with just seconds left, on senior day last week....

"I just told him, 'Aren't you glad you came to Michigan', and 'Aren't we glad that you came,' " Berenson said. "He's set a standard here. He's been a terrific kid, student, player, teammate, just a terrific kid. He's the first Swedish player we've had, and we'll always remember him."

...as if I wasn't already excited about this kid. The article is a bit long but definitely worth the read.

Rangers Discuss Richards Availability (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

richardsUpdate, 2:02 p.m.:
Arthur Staple of Newsday says Rangers would be willing to part with their 2011 first round pick for Richards.

Meanwhile, Jesse Spector tweets that he is hearing that Dallas will be buyers at the deadline, not sellers.

Original Post:
Darren Dreger in his "Dreger Report" says that Dallas Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk is exploring interest in Brad Richards and the Rangers are believed to be among as many as six teams who have recently discussed the star center's potential availability.

...Richards is an amazing talent, but it will cost a whole host of young talent to get him. Rangers should absolutely pass now, then make an inquiry in the off-season when he becomes a UFA. And even then, with the Rangers needing to re-sign so many RFAs, I'd really hate to see them overpay for Richards who just recently suffered a concussion.

Avery Back on Twitter!!!

I waited to post this until I saw an actual post from @imseanavery and last night it came...

My First Tom Sachs Piece http://dlvr.it/HKdmtless than a minute ago via dlvr.it

...got to assume this is him as he links back to his website that is also back after being down for construction. Would have liked a cooler first tweet back.

...still some doubt this is him as first tweet comes just hours after last night's game. Assume he'd be doing something else rather than re-joining Twitter.

Injury Updates on Gaborik & Boogaard

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that the Rangers did not offer any further updates on MArian Gaborik following his doctor's visit today.

Gross adds that it's now just a matter of when Gaborik feels symptom free before he can resume workouts.

...hope the Rangers are very careful here. Would hate to see them rush Gaborik back if he's not ready. We've seen too many players suffer from concussions (Lindros, LaFontaine) to not take every precaution possible with Gabby.

As far as Derek Boogaard goes his agent Tobin Wright tweeted yesterday that the enforcer is feeling better everyday and should resume skating very soon.

...even if Boogaard is somehow ready to go before the end of the season or in the playoffs I don't see him getting back in the lineup. Right now the Rangers are proving they can stand-up for themselves and even if they needed an enforcer who sits?

Staal Twists Knee

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Marc Staal left tonight's game in the third period with a twisted knee he sustained in the first period that grew progressively worse as the game went on.

The original thought was that Staal suffered a consussion after a borderline dirty hit by brother Eric in the second period.

On the Staal hit Ryan Callahan said...

"Any time you lose one of your top defensemen it's going to hurt the team, even if you lose him for the remainder of the game, it affects us," Callahan said. "I thought it was a little dirty. He was tied up by his man and he was vulnerable there. I'm not sure it was a head shot. But I don't think it was the cleanest hit by any means."

...it's one of those hits that's not a blow to the head, but with Staal in a prone position you'd like to see Eric pull up a bit. Especially against his own blood. Wonder if that was payback for Marc stealing one of his girlfirends when they were kids.

Rangers 4, Hurricanes 3, SO

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrhurrwin
The New York Rangers (32-26-4) defeated the Carolina Hurricanes (28-24-9) by the score of 4-3 in a shootout, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...there's the team I remember from the first half of the year. All they needed was a few injuries to some key players for them to find their game again.

...when your most talented goal scorer goes down someone has to step up and Wolski did just that tonight.

...does Biron get half a win for his shootout advice?

...Prospal is going to see Ward in his sleep tonight.

...amazing goalkeeping by Hank to keep the Rangers within striking distance.

...Callahan now has six goals in the ten games since returning from injury.

...thought Del Zotto looked real bad tonight. Guy can't even hit the net at this point.

...full marks to the fourth line getting the Rangers going tonight with a hard working goal to get the Rangers on the board first.

...man you'd think Eric Staal would take it easy on his kid brother. Guess not.

...can't overstate how big a win this was especially with the Devils getting yet another victory tonight.

...Rangers with a few days off until Friday in Washington.
