Wolski Tweaks Rib Muscle

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

wolski2Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants reports that Wojtek Wolski tweaked a rib muscle in the first period that limited him to just 2:06 the rest of the way. However, after the game Wolski was upbeat and hoped to skate when the Rangers reconvene for practice on Tuesday...

"I kind of went a little awkward at the end of the first period, trying to protect the puck," Wolski said. "With my stride, I couldn't do it 100 percent."

...Wolski started with a bang when he was first acquired but has fallen off a bit lately (0 goals in 8 games). If Rangers want to make a real run he's going to have to start scoring again. Especially with Gaborik's struggles.

Rangers 5, Penguins 3

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The New York Rangers (30-24-4)defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins (35-19-4) by the score of 5-3, today. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...i don't care if it was against the Penguins "B" squad, a win is a win and when you're on a five game losing streak you'll take it anyway you can get it.

...Rangers scored more power play goals today than the last month in a half. Amazing what happens when you go to the net.

...i officially can't wait until Callahan is the captain of this team.

...is there anything better than watching Prospal after he scores?

...obviously the Rangers won today b/c Del Zotto was out of the line-up.

...a full four minutes of ice time for Eminger. Guess Torts wanted to slowly ease him back in.

...don't think anyone needed a goal more than Anisimov. Rangers need to get him going again.

...amazing job by the pk on the double minor in the third. Final minutes would have been real interesting if Pens got one there.

...it's gotten so bad for Gaborik the guy can't even score on an empty net.

...obviously, great time out by Torts in the first. Although, if he didn't call one right there he should have been fired.

...of course the Rangers won, another player (Wolski) went down with an injury.

...off until Thursday when the red hot Kings are in town.

Rangers Might Chase McCabe (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 12:51 p.m.:
Jesse Spector tweets that scouts from Dallas, Phoenix and Tampa Bay have been credentialed for today's Rangers/Penguins game.

...teams probably just doing their due dilligence. Not that I think he is, but for anyone who thinks Del Zotto is available don't you think the Rangers would be playing him in games that scouts attend?

Original Post:
Jim Matheson at the Edmonton Journal reports that if a team offers Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon a first-rounder for D Bryan McCabe, who is about to come back from a broken jaw, he's likely gone. Although McCabe would have to waive his no-trade clause. Matheson adds that the Rangers might chase him.

McCabe, who is a UFA at the end of the year, makes $5.75 million this year and has 5g, 16a in 43 games this season.

...so pretty much the Rangers are linked to any defensman that can shoot.

...a first rounder from a team supposedly rebuilding seems like a lot. But if the Rangers can get him for a third I'm in. As long as the ice time comes away from either Gilroy (who I don't see back next year) or Eminger (7th defenseman).

Boogaard in New York

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

boogaard2Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports that Derek Boogaard, who was at the practice rink yesterday, has been in New York all week, but unfortunately there is no update on his concussion symptoms.

...got to assume that the Boogie Man is done this season. He hasn't even begun skating yet. Three more years folks.

...any chance he jumps off the bench if an opponent challenges Hank the way Goddard did for Johnson during Friday night's brawl filled Pens-Isles game? Doubtful.

Rangers Interested in Brewer?

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

brewerBruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that the Rangers could be looking for a power play quarterback at the trade deadline and will likely make a pitch for the Blues Eric Brewer.

Brewer, who is in the final year of his contract that pays him $4.25 million this season, has 8g, 6a this season and has zero power play points.

...is Garrioch kidding me? If the Rangers are looking for a power play quarterback why in the world would they bring in a guy with zero power play points this season?

Garrioch also says that the Rangers would move Matt Gilroy, Todd White and Michael Del Zotto.

McIlrath Returns to Moose Jaw Lineup

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

mcilrath3Jesse Rubenstein at The Prospect Park reports that Dylan McIlrath (2010 - 1st) returned to the Moose Jaw lineup last night after missing three straight games with a knee injury.

Rubenstein adds that McIlrath did not show any ill effects in his return against the Saskatoon Blades, however, he does need to work on his skating and shot.

In other prospect news, Carl Hagelin (2007 - 6th) set up the game winning game for the second straight game for the Michigan Wolverines.

...breathe another sigh of relief Rangers fans. He's been lucking out so far with these knee injuries.

...despite Del Zotto's struggles and Cam Fowler's (who the Rangers passed on for McIlrath) success in Anaheim, I'm still very excited about McIlrath developing into the crease clearing defenseman the Rangers covet.
