Staal Twists Knee

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Marc Staal left tonight's game in the third period with a twisted knee he sustained in the first period that grew progressively worse as the game went on.

The original thought was that Staal suffered a consussion after a borderline dirty hit by brother Eric in the second period.

On the Staal hit Ryan Callahan said...

"Any time you lose one of your top defensemen it's going to hurt the team, even if you lose him for the remainder of the game, it affects us," Callahan said. "I thought it was a little dirty. He was tied up by his man and he was vulnerable there. I'm not sure it was a head shot. But I don't think it was the cleanest hit by any means."

...it's one of those hits that's not a blow to the head, but with Staal in a prone position you'd like to see Eric pull up a bit. Especially against his own blood. Wonder if that was payback for Marc stealing one of his girlfirends when they were kids.

Rangers 4, Hurricanes 3, SO

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The New York Rangers (32-26-4) defeated the Carolina Hurricanes (28-24-9) by the score of 4-3 in a shootout, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...there's the team I remember from the first half of the year. All they needed was a few injuries to some key players for them to find their game again.

...when your most talented goal scorer goes down someone has to step up and Wolski did just that tonight.

...does Biron get half a win for his shootout advice?

...Prospal is going to see Ward in his sleep tonight.

...amazing goalkeeping by Hank to keep the Rangers within striking distance.

...Callahan now has six goals in the ten games since returning from injury.

...thought Del Zotto looked real bad tonight. Guy can't even hit the net at this point.

...full marks to the fourth line getting the Rangers going tonight with a hard working goal to get the Rangers on the board first.

...man you'd think Eric Staal would take it easy on his kid brother. Guess not.

...can't overstate how big a win this was especially with the Devils getting yet another victory tonight.

...Rangers with a few days off until Friday in Washington.

Gabby's Concussion; No Deals & Tonight's Lines

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Sorry for the late updates, but it's Winter Recess for the kids this week so time is devoted mostly to them...

Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Marian Gaborik has told teammates and management he believed it occurred a week ago Sunday, Feb. 13, during the Blueshirts' match at the Garden against Pittsburgh on a hit from Brooks Orpik. Marian Gaborik, who did not accompany the Rangers to Carolina, will be examined by a specialist in Manhattan at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Andres Gross adds that Gaborik didn't feel right on Tuesday but thought it was the flu and did not feel any effects in the Kings and Devils games.

Brooks also tweets that despite rumors the Rangers have not had deals fall through with Dallas or Florida.

Andrew Gross says Ruslan Fedotenko was at practice today and could be back Friday night at Washington, while Steve Eminger will again be the healthy scratch tonight with Henrik Lundqvist in goal. Here's tonight's lines...

Brandon Dubinsky-Artem Anisimov-Ryan Callahan
Vinny Prospal-Erik Christensen-Brian Boyle
Wojtek Wolski-Derek Stepan-Mats Zuccarello
Sean Avery-Kris Newbury-Brandon Prust

...Gabby did score against the Kings so you have to figure the Rangers probably thought he was fine. If he wasn't it was up to him to say something which he did so, to me, it doesn't seem like anything was missed or bungled. Although, Torts press conference was a little suspect

...man you know it's crazy deadline rumor time when Larry Brooks is the voice of reason.

...big game tonight. Starting to get pumped up.

Rangers Had Deal in Place for McCabe

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andy Strickland, a St. Louis NHL reporter, at his blog True Hockey wonders with the Rangers in need of a defenseman if they will revisit a deal that almost went down for Panthers D Brian McCabe several weeks ago.

Stickland ads that McCabe's broken jaw prevented the trade from happening but multiple sources confirm a deal was in place.

...i love hearing these type of things. If a deal was really in place, which players were going back? When you don't hear about the return on the big time player I become very suspect.

...a question I have is why is everyone saying the Rangers are in need of defensive help? The Rangers have much bigger holes in their lineup than on defense. Play-making center and a scoring winger to start.
