Brooks: Rangers Not Winners at Deadline

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Larry Brooks at the New York Post says just because Glen Sather didn't overpay for Brad Richards at the deadline doesn't make the Rangers winners...

"Pardon, but Sather hasn't made a prospects-for-veteran deal since acquiring Pavel Bure from the Panthers at the 2002 deadline. And excuse me, but the objective shouldn't have been to avoid getting fleeced by Dallas in the Brad Richards negotiations, but to have improved the team. The Stars made it easy for the Rangers to be resolute. No harm, no foul against Sather. But to declare the absence of a calamity a victory, well, that's akin to suggesting that an hour in which Lindsay Lohan manages to escape arrest is worthy of commemoration."

There is concern that the Rangers won't have enough to sign Richards in the off-season as Brooks expects the Dallas center to get offers for seven or eight years in the neighborhood of $7 million to $7.5 million per, while the Blueshirts can only offer five or six years at between $6 million to $6.5 million per.

...nice to see Brooks look at both sides of the argument. How pissed would we all be if Sather gave up AA, Valentenko and a #1 for Richards who is still isn't playing because of the effects of a concussion and probably would only end up playing about 10 games for the Blueshirts this year.  And then what if he hated it in New York and signed in Toronto this summer. So yes Larry, the Rangers were big winners at the deadline.

...this organization is building for the future not this year's playoffs and I assume mortgaging that future for a concussed player looking for an expensive long term contract is not in those plans. You'd think Larry would know that covering this team every day.

...plus they addressed their need at the point on the power play. And did he not see the Rangers got John Mitchell. ;)

Kreider to Have Surgery on Broken Jaw

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

kreiderbcUpdate, 10:28 p.m.:
Robenhymer adds that Kreider (broken jaw), who is a seeing specialist tomorrow, will have surgery to repair the damage and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

Original Post:
Julie Robenhymer at HockeyBuzz reports that Rangers 2009 first round pick Chris Kreider broke his jaw iduring Boston College's 4-0 win over UNH tonight...

"It happened in the middle of the second period when his teammate, Brian Gibbons, made a clearing attempt along the boards in the neutral zone. Kreider had stumbled while turning around and on his way down, caught the puck in the face. It was apparent immediately that he was in serious pain and headed off the ice as soon as the trainer could get to him."

Robenhymer adds that he was taken to the hospital, but the severity of the break has yet to be determined. He is out indefinitely.

The Boston College website confirms injury.

...never like to hear about a top prospect being injured but a broken jaw, while maybe painful for him right now, is not as bad as say a knee injury that may hamper him for years. Especially with how important speed is to his game.

Gaborik Skates for Fourth Straight Day

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

gaborikJesse Spector at the Blueshirts Blog reports that although Rangers did not practice today, Marian Gaborik did take the ice for a fourth straight day.

Gaborik has missed 20 games this season, and the Rangers are 10-9-1 in those contests.

John Tortorella would not address the possibility of Gaborik playing tomorrow when he addressed the media before last night's game at Ottawa.

...while I'd love to have Gaborik back, I think the Rangers would be smart to give him another week. He was having headaches as recent as Thursday, so I have serious concerns that he's not 100%. Would hate for him to suffer another concussion which could put his career in jeopardy.

Usually Expensive Rangers/Flyers Tix Going Cheap

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrtixsTickets for tomorrow afternoon's Rangers/Flyers game, which are always expensive, can be found for as low as $41, according to TiqIq.

The ticket program TiqIQ that I have a widget for on the right hand side has found these tickets at StubHub, Ebay and other ticketing sites.

I'm also seeing fans getting ridiculously cheap tickets through EBay auctions. A word of caution on the EBay auctions, please make sure you research the seller. There are a lot of scam artists out there and the last thing you guys need is to be taken for a ride.

Rangers 4, Senators 1

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrottwin2
The New York Rangers (34-29-4) defeated the Ottawa Senators (22-34-9) by the score of 4-1, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...i don't care if it was Ottawa, that is a big win and a big two points for the Rangers. Man must be a relief for this team to finally score some goals. I know it was for me.

...if the Rangers can play the rest of their games on the road they'll cruise into the playoffs.

...if you don't think the Rangers players read this blog check out the four guys I called out in my recap after the Buffalo game then look at the four goal scorers tonight. Coincidence I think not. ;)

...nice to see Prospal celebrating again.

...+3 for Eminger. Not sure why this guy is the first defenseman scratched every game.

...how sick was that pass from Wolski on the Stepan goal?

...real nasty, physical game from Sauer.

...there's the Anisimov we need to see. Strong move going to the net.

...i feel that the Rangers are much better on the power play since the McCabe trade than the 1-for-15 indicates.

...no player needs a goal right now more than Dubi.

...in other action Devils beat the Pens in OT to move within 9 points of a playoff spot. Rangers moved back into 7th.

...no time to celebrate as the first place Flyers come to town Sunday afternoon.
