Richards Still Feeling Concussion Symptoms

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

richardsPierre LeBruns at ESPN.com tweets this from a Dallas Stars press release....

''Brad Richards won't play tonight and did not skate this morning in Anaheim. He is still feeling symptoms after skating yesterday with the rest of the team. Coach Marc Crawford says the team will find out how he feels tomorrow.''

...as I said on deadline day sometimes the best trades are ones you don't make.

...meanwhile, I think TheNYRBlog reader @Jen9400 says it best when wondering if Stars were playing dirty tricks by allowing Richards to skate three days before the deadline when obviously he wasn't ready to return.

My Attempt to Cheer You Guys Up

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Figured we all needed a few laughs after the last two games.

In Puck Daddy's most recent "Jersey Foul" feature, Greg Wyshynski give us this Wade Redden protest jersey....

reddenfoul
...this is why I love Rangers fans. Very creative. Bravo.

...dude, what is up with the Redden Islanders jersey? I know they drafted him, but c'mon. The only thing I can think of is this is a Rangers fan trying to be funny.

In other entertaining fan news, the NHL tweeted out this video of a fan purchasing Rangers tickets from Gary Esparaitis (you'll get the joke after watching the video)...

...as Scotty Hockey points out on Twitter, strange that the NHL would be promoting this video which totally rips a non-traditional hockey fan giving the game a try. I thought Bettman coveted this demographic. It is funny tho.

Gaborik to Work Out This Morning; McD Limping Badly

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

gaborikJim Cerny reports that the plan is for Marian Gaborik to work out this morning with goalie Chad Johnson in Ottawa.

Cerny also says that Ryan McDonagh was limping badly after the game last night.

...it's almost to the point of being comical all these injuries.

...Eminger better start limbering up.

Debating the Rangers Playoff Chances

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside at ESPN debate who well get the final few playoff spots in the Eastern Conference and have this to say about the Rangers...

Burnside:
If you're the Rangers and you don't get three of four, then I think it's officially time to sound the alarm bells. With Martin Biron out for the rest of the season with a broken collarbone, the burden is resting squarely on Henrik Lundqvist's shoulders. Not that it hasn't been that way pretty much since he arrived in New York. Still, no safety net for the Rangers.

LeBrun:
I feel like no other club is facing more pressure than the Rangers. John Tortorella's men were a terrific story in the first half, a hard-working club that finished December at 22-14-2, making noise about not only making the playoffs, but maybe even starting the postseason at home the way they were playing. But they've gone 11-14-2 since then, falling to the back and making their fans sweat mightily.

...there are still plenty of points out there for the Rangers to get, but man they need to find a way to start scoring again because 1-2 goals a game just isn't going to get it done.

Boogaard Symptom Free; Stepan Breaks Biron's Collar Bone

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

boogaardfightcampIn today's New York Post, Larry Brooks reports that Derek Boogaard, who has been out with a concussion since a Dec. 9 fight in Ottawa with Matt Carkner, is said to be symptom free and has this quote from the enforcer on his lost season...

"It's very disappointing. This is not the year I wanted to have," Boogaard said. "The first of a contract, coming here, I wanted to have a good year.

"But what can you do?"

In other injury news, Brooks is told that a Derek Stepan shot is the reason for Martin BIron's broken collarbone...

"It was just a routine shot off a two-on-one, and when I felt it, I didn't think it was anything except that it would leave a mark," said Biron, whose left arm was immobilized by a sling. "Then when I tried to get up and couldn't straighten up, I knew it was bad."

...does anyone think there's still a role for Boogaard on this team? Maybe he can come in a sprk these guys.because they sure need one.

Torts Talks Loss to Wild & Lowlights (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 12:06 a.m.:
Andrew Gross has numerous player post game quotes including this one from Marc Staal...

"We had 41 shots but we obviously would have rather had 20 shots and four goals than 40 shots and one goal. The first goal was a big goal for us but we needed that second one to get a buffer but we couldn't and they capitalized."

Original Post:

Rangers head coach John Tortorella speaks with reporters after the Blueshirts fell 3-1 to the Minnesota Wild on March 3, at The Garden.

Wild 3, Rangers 1

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrwildloss
The New York Rangers (33-29-4) lost to the Minnesota Wild (34-25-6) by the score of 3-1, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...why can't these guys finish around the net? It's like they see an open net and absolutely crap down their leg. As always the effort is there, but  I guess when you have no legit scoring threat in the line-up these things are going to happen. Unfortunately it's happening at the worst possible time.

...amazingly tonight was the exact opposite of what has been happening lately. Quick start and then got worse as the game wore on.

...Rangers now 14-16-3 at MSG. Disgraceful.

...Avery is the best player on the ice in the first period and Torts rewards him with just 7:54 of ice time in the game.

...love Callahan, but he's got to start burying some of these shots.

...Dubinsky probably had the quietest eight shot night I've ever seen.

...1-for-10 on the power play since the McCabe acquisition. Just sayin'.

...traffic in front of the net, traffic in front of the net, traffic in front of the net.

...i have to laugh to keep myself from crying with all these injuries.

...can the Rangers please put a body on the man in front of the net on the pk?

...is it me or has Girardi been awful since returning from injury?

...horrible night around the league for the Rangers as Habs, Canes, Sabres and Toronto all get points meaning the Rangers drop to eighth just two points ahead of Buffalo.

...no time the sulk as Rangers visit the lowly Senators tomorrow night.
