Rangers Talk Comeback Win vs. Bruins (4/4/11) - Updated w/ Torts Video

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 12:42 a.m.:
John Tortorella post game presser (via The Blueshirts Blog)...

Original Post:
Steve Zipay at Blue Notes has these quotes...

Vinny Prospal...

"Everybody's collecting points and for us to come back after basically trailing the whole game and getting the win is humongous."

Michael Sauer...

"He (Thomas) was challenging me, I had to shoot on the ice, I figured, who knows, a rebound, a lot of things can happen. I had one like that in the first period. I just threw it in the net area. Then I saw Boyler with his hands over his head screaming...We've got great leadership, especially at this time of the year when they're keeping you up, keeping you focused, keeping you positive and then they go out there and get the job done. Vinny today and Dubi. Getting those two goals got us excited. He's a great guy, he gets excited when he scores and he just lifts the spirits of everybody."

Brian Boyle...

"You have to live in the moment. The task (getting into the playoffs) at hand is hard enough. We came together and that is pretty special. I am going to remember this one for the rest of my life."

From Rangers Twitter account...

Brandon Dubinsky on the Garden crowd...

"It gives you goose bumps & is a feeling you can't describe when you hear the place going crazy and your team going crazy"

Henrik Lundqvist...

"It felt like it went from end-of-the-season excitement to playoff excitement...and we fed off of that"

Rangers 5, Bruins 3

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrbostwin
The New York Rangers (43-32-5) defeated the Boston Bruins (44-24-11) by the score of 5-3, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...we've said it all year, this team refuses to give up and with the season on the line they showed the entire league what Rangers hockey is all about. Couldn't be more proud to be a Blueshirts fans.

...can't remember a goal that's ever given a team the spark that Prospal's first goal did. The Rangers looked like they had nothing left after an emotional win over the Flyers last night but that goal jolted life into the team and into the Garden.

...Wolski-Stepan-Prospal. Who knew?

...to me the plays made before the Rangers goals were more impressive than the actual goals. Staal made a ridiculous play at the line to keep the puck in on the first goal, then Stepan beat his man to the puck on the second and on the third and fourth goals Callahan and Boyle just outworked the Bruins.

...remind me again why Sauer isn't in Calder talks?

...just a huge goal for Dubinsky who is someone that I'm hoping will make the next step in his career to become a leader on and off the ice.

...and as always the rock in between the pipes closes the door allowing his teammates to make a run. Best part of the night was when Lundqvist skated over to the bench all pumped up after Stepan's empty netter. Got me fired up.

...now that was MSG. Haven't heared the crowd that loud in years.

...how about Girardi, Callahan and Boyle risking life and limb jumping in front of Chara shot after Chara shot.

...tough night for McDonagh. But I think it will be a great learning experience for him down the road.

...a +4 for Staal a night after playing 34 minutes.

...off until Thursday when the Thrashers are in town.

Rangers Recall Newbury; Feds Injured?

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

newburyNewyorkrangers.com reports that the Rangers have recalled Kris Newbury from the CT Whale.

Andrew Gross says the Newbury recall may have to do with the hit Ruslan Fedotenko took from Braydon Coburn that forced him to miss the end of the second period yesterday.

...let's hope Fedotenk is OK. As evidenced by his huge goal yesterday, it's always important to have veterans who have been there down the stretch.

...assuming no MZA because Newbury plays a grinding style similar to Fedotenko.

Drury on Ice; Gilroy Likely Scratch (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 11:43 a.m.:
Drury says his goal is to be back for the playoffs. He has skated lightly the last two days.

Original Post:
Andrew Gross reports that Chris Drury is on the ice with teammates for this first time since knee surgery in February.

Matt Gilroy is also on the ice meaning he is the likely scratch on defense tonight vs. Boston.

...i know most Rangers fans aren't the biggest Drury supporters, but I'm glad to see him skating again. And as I've been saying to anyone who will listen if the Rangers make the playoffs and Drury gets healthy in time I can see him making some contributions during the second season.

Hank Had a Flashback

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

lundqvistLarry Brooks at the New York Post has this quote from Henrik Lundqvist after yesterday's game which was eerily similar to last year's final game of the season...

"I had a flashback," said The King.

"It was not the exact same situation, but I was a little more anxious and a little more nervous going into the shootout than I usually am because of what happened last year," Lundqvist told The Post. "I don't think I could have handled another loss, it would have made me so mad.

"But I felt this was our time to get this one."

...pretty safe to say every Rangers fan had a deja vu moment yesterday afternoon. Thankfully the Hockey Gods took pity on us after what we went through last year. There would have been a lot of talking Rangers fans off the edge this morning.

TheNYRBlog reader Vincent A. and his nephew Jonathan bask in the glory of the Rangers 3-2 shootout win vs. the Flyers yesterday. Big time props to Vinny for wearing his Blueshirt in what's always a hostile environment at the Wells Fargo Center..
