Written by Kevin DeLury on .

mcilrath3According to the AHL transaction report, Rangers 2010 first round pick Dylan McIlrath has signed an Amateur Tryout (ATO) agreement with the CT Whale and will report to the team this week.

McIlrath will be eligible to play for the Whale in the playoffs.

...this will be awesome for his development. Wonder whose spot he will take in the lineup. Redden's?

Callahan on Crutches; Doesn't Mean Playoff Failure

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

callahanAndrew Gross reports that Ryan Callahan was at the practice facility today on crutches and wearing a boot on his right foot.

Steve Zipay adds that Callahan will have x-rays every week to determine progress.

Callahan on the injury...

"It (stinks)...this is a bad time of year for this to happen...and it's unfortunate that's it happened twice to me this year." Callahan said. "It's part of the game, it happens..I am sure team will respond fine & I have all the confidence in the world we'll have good run."

...nice to see Cally at practice today. Hoping the team can rally around the injury.

For those of you who feel the season is over without Callahan check out these other teams that rallied around a key injury to make playoff runs courtesy of Rick Carpiniello at the Rangers Report...

1991-92: Adam Graves breaks Mario Lemieux's hand in the second round. The Penguins fall behind the Rangers two games to one. And they rally to win that series and the next and, after Mario makes an early return, the Stanley Cup, not losing another game along the way.

1992-93: Dale Hunter cheap-shots Pierre Turgeon out of the playoffs in the first round. The depleted Islanders go on to shock the two-time defending champ Penguins without Turgeon before losing in the Eastern Conference final.

2000-01: Colorado's Peter Forsberg's spleen ruptures, requiring emergency surgery at the end of the second round. The Avalanche go on to win the Stanley Cup without Forsberg.

Watch the Rangers Clinch for Cheap

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrtixsIf Carolina loses to the Red Wings tonight, the Rangers can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Atlanta tomorrow night at MSG. And according to TiqIQ, tickets for the game are currently selling for almost 25% below market value.

The ticket program TiqIQ that I have a widget for on the right hand side has found these tickets at StubHub, Ebay and other ticketing sites.

I'm also seeing fans getting ridiculously low prices through EBay auctions. A word of caution on the EBay auctions, please make sure you research the seller. There are a lot of scam artists out there and the last thing you guys need is to be taken for a ride.

Drury on Ice Again; Gilroy with Avery & EC

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross tweets that Chris Drury is on the ice for the fifth straight day and first with the team. He is wearing a non-contact jersey.

Matt Gilroy has been put on a line with Sean Avery and Erik Christensen.

Other lines are...

Wolski-Stepan-Prospal
Fedotenko-Boyle-Prust
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Gaborik

...i actually like the lines. Assuming when Drury is ready he slides into Gilroy's spot on the fourth line.

Is Rangers Shot Blocking Mentality a Mistake?

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

In a column at the New York Post, Larry Brooks wonders if the Rangers shot blocking mentality is really worth it...

"There is, though, statistical evidence that a huge total of blocked shots is not endemic to success, for three of the five team leaders in that category -- with the Islanders first -- are out of the playoffs while Presidents' Trophy winner Vancouver is 25th overall in that category and the gold-standard Red Wings rank 29th.

The Blackhawks were 17th last year before winning the Cup. The Red Wings were 30th. And the Panthers, Islanders and Oilers -- three of the league's worst teams, ranked 1-2-4, respectively."

...i understand what Brooks is trying to say here, but not every time is as talented at the Canucks and Red Wings. The Rangers need to do the little things like shot blocking and hits to win games.

...what do you guys think. Is the shot blocking mentality that has been so successful for the Rangers worth all the injuries especially when it happens to a key player such as Callahan?
