Rangers to Wear Heritage Jerseys Next Year

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

heritagejerseyChris over at Icethetics (awesome blog) reports that the Rangers will bring the Heritage jerseys back next season...

"The only difference between what the Rangers are wearing in 2010-11 and what they'll have in 2011-12 is the 85th anniversary shoulder patch. Obviously that will disappear following the end of this season."

...i was initially very blah about the Heritage jersey, but the more I see it the more I like.

...unfortunately the Rangers are 1-4-0 wearing the jersey so maybe bringing it back isn't such a good idea.

Briere Fined; Flyers Cry About Prust Hard Hit

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Stephen Whyno at Philadelphia Sports Daily reports that Danny Briere was fined $1,000 for punching Brandon Prust from the bench during the third period of yesterday's game. Scott  Hartnell also threw a punch at Prust but missed.

...same fine Dubinsky received for getting involved from the bench during the Rangers melee with the Oilers last month, so I'm ok with it.

On why the Flyers bench reacted the way they did after Prust hit Kimmo Timonen...

"Certainly he was trying to hit Kimmo as hard as he could, and our guys didn't like that," Ville Leino said. "They gave a little bit back, but I think it's just part of a tough hockey game."

...please tell me Leino is joking. The Flyers get upset when one of their players is hit hard? It's hockey everyone hits hard. The old Broad Street Bullies must be embarrassed to have worn the same jersey as these cry babies.

Audio: Del Zotto Talks Demotion

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

delzottoMitch Beck at the Howlings has audio of Michael Del Zotto discussing his demotion to the CT Whale and what he needs to work on to get back.

...the Rangers pp is putrid right now, might not be the worst thing to bring Del Zotto back up to see if he's learned anything and can jump start the offense.

...h/t to Canyon of Blueshirts.

Speaking of bringing someone up from the Whale, Evgeni Grachev had two goals last night.

Flyers Throw Punches at Prust from Bench (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 11:30 a.m.:
Here's video of the punches...

Original Post:
Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that the Flyers were upset with Sean Avery's knockout of Matt Carl, his first NHL fight, however it is the Flyers that might end up fined for their actions.

Brooks adds that after Brandon Prust laid a big hit on Kimmo Timonen and was skating down the boards, both Daniel Briere and Scott Hartnell threw punches from the Flyers' bench that made contact with the Rangers' winger which is grounds for supplementary discipline.

...i love how Avery is always portrayed as a dirty player but others like Briere, who was suspended earlier this year for a cross check to the head of an Islanders player, aren't.

...i've read reports that Flyer players were upset that Avery continued to throw punches at Carle after he was knocked down. To that I say don't get punched in the face and fall to the ice.

Here's video of the Avery/Carle fight...

Gaborik Talks Benching (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

gaborikUpdate, 11:20 p.m.:
For more post game quotes visit the Rangers Report.

Original Post:
Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants has this from Marian Gaborik on whether he was shocked to be benched tonight...

"Yeah," Gaborik said. "Obviously I haven't produced much lately. Obviously, in these types of games, it's a big game. I'm not giving up, I've just got to work harder, just try to get out of it, that's the bottom line. Confidence is a very big part. The last few games, I felt good and we created chances. I think things were happening but it was not going in. It surprised me tonight to get benched. It's the coach's decision, that's the bottom line. I have to produce and help this team win games.

"I've got to score, I've got to score. You definitely want to go out there and prove you should be on the ice."

...i hate to get on the guy after everthing he did for the team last year, but his lack of scoring is really killing the Blueshirts right now. The Rangers have been begging for a big goal lately and he is just no where to be found. It's not like he's not trying but something's got give soon. Right?
