Callahan Skating With Stepan, Wolski (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Update, 4:45 p.m.:
Lots of post practice quotes over at Ranger Rants, including this from Dubinsky...

"I honestly can't answer, truthfully, I don't know," Dubinsky said when asked when he would return. "I felt pretty good out there. I'll come here in the morning and see how it feels and create a timeline from there. I went pretty hard before and during practice. If there's a time I'm going to be sore, it'll be tomorrow.

"I'm not going to rule anything out," Dubinsky added. "If I wake up and feel great tomorrow, you never know what happens."

Update, 4:42 p.m.:
Here's the run down of players returning from injury: Callahan returns tomorrow, Dubinsky possible, Prospal likely Thursday, Christensen by Saturday and Fedotenko in 10 days.

...i can't even begin to think who is going to sit.

Girardi is in tomorrow but Torts left the door open for Del Zotto to play.

...Eminger?

Evgeny Malkin joins Sidney Crosby in the press box tomorrow night.

Update, 3:24 p.m.:
Marc Staal took a shot to the foot during practice and did not return.

Update, 2:36 p.m.:

@thenyrangers tweets that the usual orange non-contact jerseys are not "non-contact" meaning Prospal, Dubinsky, Christensen all taking part in full practice.

...maybe prospal is a go for tomorrow. I'm so confused.

...should have called up Kolarik if Grachev is going to be on the fourth line.

Prospal, Christensen, Dubinsky in noncontact jerseys.

...guess no Prospal tomorrow.

Sidney Crosby will not play tomorrow night missing his 10th straight game with a concussion.

Stepan 6th in Calder Poll

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

stepanHockey's Future announced their Mid-season Calder poll with Derek Stepan landing at #6...

6. Derek Stepan, C - New York Rangers
DOB: June 18, 1990
Drafted 51st overall (2nd round) in 2008

Fourth among rookies in scoring, Derek Stepan has adjusted quickly to the NHL. In just his first year of pro hockey, the former collegiate star has seen his average ice time steadily increase as the season has gone by. More importantly, he's played in every game this year, a bit of a remarkable achievement on a Rangers squad that has been torn apart with injury over the course of the season. Currently third among New York players in scoring, Stepan has 14 goals and 30 points in 52 games this season. After originally lining up beside Marian Gaborik, the 20-year-old has lately played alongside of fellow rookie Mats Zuccarello and veteran Wojtek Wolski.

...to me the most impressive part of Stepan's season was his ability to grind through an early season slump that would have destroyed most rookies. This kid is the real deal and I've loved watching him skate alongside MZA recently.

Speaking of MZA he also received votes in the Calder poll.

Hockey's Future also looks back on the Rangers 2006 draft. If you liked the Sanguinetti pick that year you may not want to read this.

Rangers/Pens Tix for as Low as $41

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

nyrtixsTomorrow should be Ryan Callahan's return to the Rangers lineup against the Penguins at MSG and you can check it out live for as low as $41 a ticket.

The ticket program TiqIQ that I have a widget for on the right hand side has found these tickets at StubHub, Ebay and other ticketing sites.

I'm also seeing fans getting ridiculously low prices through EBay auctions. A word of caution on the EBay auctions, please make sure you research the seller. There are a lot of scam artists out there and the last thing you guys need is to be taken for a ride.

Getting to Know Anisimov

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

anisimovMark Malinowski at The Hockey News was able to sit down with Artem Anisimov and discusses issues ranging from first hockey memory to favorite movie. Here's an excerpt...

Most Memorable Goal(s): "I have two. In a pre-season game against Boston and last one in the season against New Jersey. I like those two goals."

...i remember that goal against Boston it was pretty sick and here it is...

Other notable answers are Enver Lisin used to call him grandpa and Evgeny Grachev is the funniest player he's ever encountered.

Here's a pic of TheNYRBlog reader Justin C. with Mats Zuccarello. After exiting the NHL store in Manhattan on Saturday, Justin spotted MZA walking down the street with his girlfriend and was more than happy to take a pic...

Prospal Ready To Go

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

prospalLarry Brooks at the New York Post says that he recently received an e-mail from Glen Sather saying Vinny Prospal was activated last week because "He is ready to go."

Brooks adds that might not mean ready to go for tomorrow's game against the Penguins but it could mean later this week.

The Rangers recalled Michael Del Zotto, Kris Newbury and Evgeny Grachev from the CT Whale last night.

...i'm done trying to figure out what's going on with Prospal's injury. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago when the reports were he was done for the season?

...with the recall of both Newbury and Grachev you've got to assume he's not ready for tomorrow night. Right?

Rangers Recall Three From Whale (Updated)

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

delzottoUpdate, 12:14 a.m.:
Jesse Spector tweets that a reason Del Zotto could have been called up is the Whale doesn't play again until Friday and the Rangers just want him up for practice.

...that makes sense. Still doesn't explain Grachev. I do like they're giving the kid another chance, I just hope, as I said below it's not on the fourth line. Unfortunately, if they do give him a chance on a top two line it probably means back to the fourth line for Avery.

...h/t to sarcasmpucktail.

Original Post:
Newyorkrangers.com reports that the Rangers have recalled Michael Del Zotto, and forwards Kris Newbury and Evgeny Grachev from the CT Whale.

...got to say I'm shocked to see both Del Zotto and Grachev back. Assuming the Rangers aren't 100% sure Girardi will be ready to go on Tuesday against the Pens. Can't think of any other reason he'd be back up as Torts kept reminding us that Del Zotto was only up before the All Star break because of the Girardi injury and that he still needed to be with the Whale.

...as far as Grachev goes, I know he's been on a hot streak lately (seven goals in five games) but unless they plan on putting him on one of the top two lines he'd be a waste on a checking line. Would rather see him continue to grow his confidence with the Whale.

...good to see Newbury back. His faceoff ability will be very helpful down the stretch.

Lundqvist Penalty Shot Save Not Enough as Team Staal Falls

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Despite a penalty shot save by Henrik Lundqvist, Team Staal lost to Team Lidstrom 11-10 in tonight's All Star Game.

Lundqvist ended the game with 11 saves on 14 shots. Marc Staal had one shot on goal and a -2.

Here's video of Hank's penalty shot save...

...as always, very fun All Star Game with a lots of wide open action. I think right now the NHL All Star Game is probably the most fun to watch of any of the major sports. Couldn't even watch the Pro Bowl tonight.

Original Post:
allstarNot that I need to remind anyone, but Henrik Lundqvist and Marc Staal will be skating for Team Staal tonight in the NHL All Star Game which starts at 4pm on Versus.

...got to say that I've really enjoyed the All Star weekend so far much more than I anticipated. From the player draft to the skill competition and all the coverage on the web in between. The NHL and Hurricanes organization have done an outstanding job. Seems like the city of Raleigh is really into it.
