No formal morning skate for the #NYR in Toronto today, four players on ice now: Lundqvist, Del Zotto, Falk, Miller— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) January 4, 2014
Lundqvist's appearance at the optional skate likely indicates Cam Talbot gets the start in Toronto tonight.
Miller will return to the lineup due to the Derek Dorsett injury.
...sure, why not. I really don't think Lundqvist was to blame for any of the goals last night, but his game definitely regressed from the previous two starts.
...surprised that Falk isn't re-inserted into the line-up with the Rangers only morsel of toughness in Dorsett out with injury. The Leafs are going to come at the Rangers and come at them hard tonight. And from what I witnessed last night, there's no one capable of pushing back.
...would be nice to see the coach set the tone tonight for once by initiating some passion from behind the bench.
This team is doomed tonight , friggin pens slapped us around like a bunch of Nancy's what do you think the leafs will do?
I'd like to quote the late great Shero " they can't score when you knock em on their ass"
With Talbot in, we will probably see a better effort from the team, as usual with Hank out. I can't help wondering, why that is. Is Hank disliked and shunned by his teammates for some reason? Did he offend them at some point? Any thoughts?
I'd hate to point this out but the Queefs lead the league in fighting majors this season.
It's going to be interesting tonight for all of the wrong reasons.
Hey, they always have Boyle to protect them!
Someone get a mop....its gonna be a blood bath tonight. Sather called up Hartfords medical team. Jim Ramsey is gonna need extra hands tonight.
Ah...Saturday Night...Hockey Night In Canada. Maple Leafs' home games on Saturday Night....a spectacle. Thousands will watch the game outside the building on screens......the crowd and players inside...ready to get it on come puck drop.
Expect a different game from the Maple Leafs tonight boys....I fully expect this "zero-toughness" Ranger squad to be bounced out of the rink tonight.....
It's Mrs. McPhee's birthday tonight....so I won't be around to witness what could be a physical trouncing.
There's a storm coming fellas....batten down the hatches!!
@TheNYRBlog it will be an issue surprised asham not called up. What's to stop any leaf from taking liberties
They got McIIrath who they picked over Fowler, why not bring him up. The Rangers need to get rid of Sather because this 10+ rebuild is not working.
Can u guys get ur heads out of ur asses about who is to blame for toughness...... it's plain as day AV doesn't want and refuses to Play tough guys
Sather recalls Mashinter AV plays him just 2 mins.... Sather recalls Asham and AV plays him 3 shifts the whole game...Miclrath is called up and he sits him on the bench or doesn't dress hm. Then ask why the hell was he called up for.
Even better one. KREIDER doesn't see the ice in overtime
. my God it's as simple as that... the guy is in love rolling a line up with no toughness go look back at his tes in Vancouver and why they lost in the playoffs
Sather doesn't value toughness. It's the reason him and Torts never agreed and the reason he was happy to get rid of him.
@TheNYRBlog why hasn't sather made any moves for toughness? What's he waiting for?
@TheNYRBlog Losing is one thing, losing because the team is a bunch of cupcakes is how you lose fans. Not on players, on Sather.
@TheNYRBlog Need to get over the toughness thing. Problem is no Ranger can score a goal like Crosby did lastnight. Talent not toughness.
bet they win tonight... one win then one loss is usually how it goes. Happy birthday to the Mrs. Have Fun!!
@mando24179 IMO, it's not the coach. Last year Vancouver was 7th in the league in fighting majors, the Rangers were 14th! People want to blame AV for the poor defense? Last year, Vancouver gave up 93 goals with Luongo in net, the Rangers, under that defense-first system, with the Vezina candidate in net, gave up 101. Do you remember how we used to complain about how Tortorella didn't want them to fight? (last year, not two years ago). It's not the coach, it's the players. Same players that had no fight last year either.
I'm not saying AV isn't to blame. But, Sather hired AV and fired Torts and dismantled a tough as nails team.
Also, the coach decides the call-ups not the GM. Sather might be in the discussion but it's ultimately up to the coaching staff.
AV does not have a tough guy on his roster that can also play at the NHL level. Meanwhile, UFA's this past summer included Clarkson, Clowe (though he's been a mess), Penner, Horton, and Peluso. But, nope, Sather went after Pouliot, Falk, Aaron Johnson, Dominic Moore and then resigned Hags, didn't buy out Richards and basically put a sign over his office door that says, under skilled and scared? Welcome to NYR!!!
@GiveGartneraCupSather doesn't value toughness? Wasn't it he who put Semenko on a line to protect Gretzky?
@casey4x1 Not imposing at all. But he's all they got.
Toughness allows the talent to score goals wit no worries..... When we had. Priest. Bickel Rupp etc in the line up. The pens didn't do any dirty stuff and games were more competitive. ..on a physical note..... that's how u beat the Pens.... for check and body check em to death. U get them out of their game..
They always lose
@adrec88 Can't score because skilled guys too busy being pushed around. Toughness opens up space for the talent.
I agree. But the coach has had toughness. There and doesn't play them...
U gotta think if Sather...had AV in his ear bout free agents..
One thing is clear. AV is not the right coach
Sather thinks this is a "new" NHL. He's obsessed with the west coast teams that play puck possession skill hockey. But those teams have the Kane's, Sedins, coutures and other players who can actually play at that game.
Don't know what the new coach has to do with the loss of Prust, Dubi and others that made the 2012 team such a feisty tank.
Sather steered this team towards skill and that's probably one of the reasons he hired AV. I do agree AV fails to value grit as well. But I think that problem stems from the top.
@TheNYRBlog NOT GOOD ENOUGH , HOWS HALEY COMING ALONG POST SURGERY
@TheNYRBlog If Zuccarello can take abuse and stand up for himself while still producing at his size. Nash should have no problems.
@TheNYRBlog Nash gets pushed around? No. He just doesn't play with any intensity or passion. Does not look like player that wants t be great
And Sather is not the right GM. Hasn't been for the past 13 years. 13 years no cup. 13 years and only one Eastern Conference appearance (after which he set up a tag sale sign on the front lawn of MSG). This guy is an idiot. He thinks this team can become a skill, puck possession team and compete with the Crosby's, Ovi's, and Kanes of this league. There are a handful of those players in this world. And none of them
To make it in the East and the playoffs you need toughness, this team has ZERO. Notice how the Pens manhandled the rangers with Dorsett out of the Game? Ask McDonough and Moore how they feel. McDonough got mugged by Cindy Crosby and Moore got tossed like a sack of potatoes.
The coach sucks hands down..... Sather gets all the blame on that. But when u have toughness and dont dress or play them. That's on the coach
I would take Prust and that contract back in a heartbeat. That falls on Sather. And they should have kept Dubi in that trade. That also falls on Sather.
They should have bought out Richards and gone after Dustin Penner or Clarkson or Horton or Peluso. That falls on Sather.
I cannot blame the coach for not calling up a bunch of AHLers just cause they can throw down.
Bottom line, Sather turned a construction worker lunch pale mentality team to a skill group that isn't skilled enough to win and the only tough guy is a 5'6" forward nicknamed the hobbit (who I love).
Pust wad lost to free agency. Dub I and and an isomorphic. Who is no t a grinder were in the Nash trade. U gotta give to get..... the guy who should have been traded was Stepan... not Dub I
As far as Rupp. He was f..king useless. Could win any fights... would get his ass kicked everytime....
We have bickel we have Haley. Now Beach..... We had Mashinter........ Miclrath. That shit falls on the useless pansy coach we have..... u gotta play with what u have and we have toughness. The ahole of a coach doesn't use play or Dess them
Only reason the don't hit Zuc is they throw the elbow over his head he is so short.. and if anyone dared to jump him... that's the end of their career hands down.. They will be thrown out the league
Ur barking up the wrong tree on other players jumping in..... go look at Gabby getting his ass kicked by car carcillo. Rangers vs flyers. Or Lucic head smashing MacD and Nash. And no one did a damp thing...
Gabby played alot different when he had Boogard on the bench compared to when he didnt
It's as simple as that.... u play with more confidence do to the bench having detergents. ... tough guys... equalizers in the line up...
@adrec88 I think we agree on this, but I just feel a guy like Ott gives Nash a sense of protection. But it needs to be team toughness.
@adrec88 I agree. But if he can't, then team needs to protect him.
@adrec88 I agree on ur pts about passion, that's a team wide issue, but b/c he has been pushed around he's not willing 2 go in2 tough areas.
@TheNYRBlog Alot of star players take a beating through the season. The good ones play through it.
@TheNYRBlog Since Nash has returned he is not producing b/c he gets pushed around? That to me is letting him off the hook far too easy.
@adrec88 Nash doesn't get pushed around?!?!?!? Did you see the two hits that concussed him?
