Update, 4:26 p.m.:
#NYR have agreed to terms with free agent goaltender David LeNeveu. He will wear #29.— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) January 21, 2014
LeNeveu was signed by the Wolfpack last week and is 1-1-0 with a 3.50 gaa and .891 sv % in two games.
...let's just say I'm devastated that I wasn't chosen and leave it at that.
Some news out of practice this morning as Cam Talbot will get the surprise start against the Islanders tonight with Henrik Lundqvist reportedly too sick to play or backup.
The Rangers have yet to secure a backup as the timing and weather have made it difficult to get someone here from Hartford.
...so I guess illness is the new word for back muscle pull.
...since I mention it all the time on this blog, you guys already know that I played goalie in high school, so I have officially made my availability known to the Rangers. Assuming the Rangers will be interested if for no other reason than it'll give Stepan a chance to thank me personally for jump starting his season.
I did hear that a pretty good netminder was in Bryant Park today promoting the Stadium Series. Might not be a bad option (via Rangers Twitter)...
...actually, an awesome scenario would it be if Vigneault pulled a Lester Patrick if the situation arises.
In all seriousness, the Rangers have the option to sign someone to a one-day PTO in these circumstances. In the past, team's in a similar bind have signed local college goaltender coaches.
The Rangers should absolutely not sign Kevin!!! He is too expensive and his best years are behind him! Better to trade him now and restock with youth and size. Besides....er...what?...oh....nevermind....seems almost knee-jerk with me now - like some sort of Tourette's. Trade him! Trade him!
How did Henrik Lundqvist get so mysteriously sick over the last 48 hours that he can't even backup tonight?. Guess he was seriously downplaying his injury vs Washington.
I think it's because Lenny has NHL experience, and they might have to sign Dov to a different type of contract.
People are ridiculous. Kevin makes a joke about being the backup for a night and people actually start talking shyyt. It was a joke. A pretty damn obvious one too.
NHL app alert(which still never takes you to the news article that it pops up) said the Philly game is canceled
If I'm a goalie for the Wolfpack, I take a dog sled to get to the Garden. NHL contracts are paying 10x's as much as they get on a two way. That's like making a weeks pay in a night. Pack doesn't play until this weekend, so I'd imagine we have a backup.
Are the NHL studios in NY? Kevin Weekes does NHL tonight, but I would only sign him if Kathryn Tappen agreed to be an ice girl for the night ;-) They could always call up Bickel. Just strap some pads on him and he'll take up 95% of the net!
kevin, stop pretending you are an NHL caliber goaltender... some people might think you are serious!
Can we get Keenan Thompson to resume his goalie career?
Jean Claude Van Damme anywhere near the Garden? He made a great save on a right handed shooting Tony Amonte.
Could that actually happen? I know you were kidding but could Richter sit there in a Rangers jersey on a one day contract?
@JoeNYRFor some reason they don't like me or the commenters of this blog. It's quite insulting. lol
@Say my NameKevin "Ryan Callahan" DeLury
@DominickAndreula don't worry, people were also joking about Kevin being in net. just playing along... Every reader who reads this blog often knows that this was all a joke.
haha, shittiest app ever, but yeah, just saw that, too. I wonder if there's a drop-dead time for them to call the NYR game. Have to figure by 5 everyone you need (players, officials, coaches, security, operations) is already there. And its not like you're keeping people off the roads. 99% of atendees will take one train or another to get to the game, and 75% are probably already in the city looking for something to do before they take the train home.
@BuckarooClubI'm seeing on that they techincally cut him for the WolfPack then resigned him to a two-way deal. Either his old contract didn't have provisions for an NHL salary, or the Rangers didn't like the price, but I'm assuming its the first.
in that case why not call avery?
Im sure it is its not supposed to stop snowing till tomorrow morning, no one is going to be able to get to the garden tnight
haha, probably not a bad choice. He's probably only a few blocks away in rehearsals for SNL...
@KreiderisTheChosenOneI think they could. Although, I don't know how that effects his retirement benefits.
Maybe he should start in the press box
@Medvjed004I was #35 in high school, but I heard that's not available. lol
@Kevin DeLury I think they just don't understand SARCASM. Big reason why i visit your blog Kev ;)
@KreiderisTheChosenOneBiron tweeted that he was stuck in an airport. He probably would have been an option: https://twitter.com/martybiron43/status/425689631125164033
If you pay for gamecenter, like i do, then no, there isn't. The content and functionality are terrible, but its nice to be able to watch hockey anywhere, at basically any time.
If ESPN covered hockey that would probably be a better app.
I haven't checked to see if TSN, CBC, or The Hockey News have apps with push-notification features.
