The New York Rangers have signed prospect Anthony Duclair to an entry-level contract, the team has announced.
#NYR have agreed to terms with forward Anthony Duclair to an entry level contract.— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) January 2, 2014
Duclair, 18, was selected 80th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and has 57 points in 37 games so far in the QMJHL.
It's a timely move for both the Rangers and Duclair. Duclair was recently named First Star of the Week and Second Star for the month of December in the QMJHL. I've done a number of updates on Duclair, so feel free to type his name into the search bar and see what I've said about him over the last few months. Aside from the point production, it is how Duclair is earning these points that makes me a fan of his. He shows a great arsenal of speed, hand-eye coordination, and shooting ability. He is very confident with the puck on his stick and is able to create offense out of nothing and often by himself. He has also developed into a very reliable defensive player.
Duclair will finish the season with the Quebec Remparts and unless he makes the Rangers out of training camp next season he'll be required to play one more season in juniors. In essence, this is mostly a formality. His contract won't count against the 50 player limit and his UFA clock won't start as long as he remains in the CHL. Nonetheless, it's indicative of the fact that Duclair has shown Rangers scouts enough to make them believe that he's ready for the next level.
Here are a couple of videos I put together which show off a bit of his ability.

Also fuck I wish we had traded Staal for Skinner when we had the chance... guy is on another level since coming back from injury... another hat trick tonight (and the game winner). 19 goals and 11 assists in 30 games... UNREAL. Just watching him he is the exact player we are missing on the ice (on the PP he shoots and scores)
btw one thing many people have overlooked about the US olympic roster... Derek Stepan is by far the youngest forward on the roster (by over a year). So for those of you saying trade him or saying "he sucks". We still have an incredible talent there, yes he has struggled. But he should be considered an untradeable along with Mac Truck and Kreider. I bet he has a big second half.
@Herman_NYRBlog Good , but seems odd for Nyrs in m id season
i like him alot. Great scoring touch and nice speed. Its funny how the first thing people complain about is his size. I was one of them that said Zucc had no chance in the NHL. Foot in mouth... No Ranger fan should complain about the size until they at least play some games in the NHL. If he has the tools then he can make it. Hopefully in 2-3 years we will find out.
Awesome. He's the prospect I'm most excited about. He's Kreider fast but he has more of a scoring touch.
Good Play results in these kind of achievements... I am all for it. His speed makes him an asset, and if he can continue to score then there are no limits for this kid
@TheNYRBlog He's not my boy :|
It was less than a year ago Carolina was desperately looking to get out from under his contract
That trade was on the table? Sather must have pictures of Dolan dressed in womans clothing.......larry brooks did a nice job of pointing out another draft blunder. We took Mcilrath with fowler still there ranked ahead of him.......thank you lord sather....you keep bringing us just below the bar talent each year!
I have been hoping Stepan could become a solid number two center for the Rangers, but he's been disappointing even for that expectation. He just doesn't produce enough. I would trade him in a NY second in a package for Ryan O'Reilly.
Look at his skating, he doesn't skate he run, it's major flow, read scout reports about him
@EugenePlaksienko Hmm.. They were saying that about someone on the Rangers now. You know the guy that leads the team in points. That little guy that looks like Frodo.. THe one that hits harder then Boyle and passes better then anyone on the Rangers. Hint hint...
Kreider fast??? Nobody is as fast as Kreider.
@Herman_NYRBlog C'mon, you're all over him more than I was with Mashinter.
@TheNYRBlog He gives me no choice. I write about who makes news. He makes news. Any time Mashinter passed a puck you'd write about it lol.
@TheNYRBlog Awwww. RIP Mashinter
@Herman_NYRBlog You're giving him way too much credit.
