The New York Rangers (24-20-3) defeated the Philadelphia Flyers (23-19-4) by the score of 4-1, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
...seriously, who are these guys and what did they do with our boring, passionless, spineless Rangers? Easily the most juiced up I've been watching a game all season. Amazing how much better a team performs when playing with emotion.
...absolute forechecking clinic put on by the Rangers. Tortorella would be proud.
...i don't think I've ever used this word on the blog before, but the Rangers power play was absolutely majestic tonight. I've been rooting for the Rangers for a long time and I can't remember the last time I've seen puck movement like that. The Rangers could have easily scored three power play goals tonight if they would have buried their chances with wide open nets.
...so you want to know why most of us on the blog have been begging for a Carcillo-type player for the last two years? There you go. From the trash talking, to the physical play, to the fights. It's everything I could have hoped for and more. The Flyers ended up more worried about Carcillo than winning the game. Remind you guys of a former Rangers agitator? And for anyone complaining about Carcillo fighting with the Rangers up 3-0, you obviously weren't watching the game. After the Rangers scored their third goal, the Flyers had stepped up their physical play (including running Lundqvist twice) and thought they could bully their way back into the game. That was until Carcillo put an end to it. The Flyers weren't the same after that fight.
...assuming no one wants to trade Nash back to the Blue Jackets for Dubinsky and Anisimov tonight.
...remember when we thought there might be a goaltending controversy? Fun times.
...i can watch Zuccarello to Brassard all day long.
...another game, another early whistle negating a Rangers goal.
...man, I love watching the innocent, All American looking John Moore pound someone in a fight.
...and Kreider's still learning how to play this game. Damn, he's going to be good.
...did anyone else cringe when Simmonds grabbed Boyle in the final minute scrum? I thought he was doomed.
...i'm glad that McDonagh's on our side. He's such a beast in a tough, physical rivalry game like this.
...we all wondered what this team would look like once the Rangers best players were at there best. I'm pretty happy with what I see.
...off tomorrow then Tampa in town on Tuesday.
Post game talk...
I was at this game! The best part was the mob fight at the end, and of course that first period where they punched out two goals in the first 5 minutes! Awesome
#1 THIS is the way a professional sports team should play, WITH PASSION !! #2 MCDONAGH is a beast and i haven't seen any ANYONE play like him this year in any game. #3 there just isn't ANY excuse for this team to lower their battle level in any game they play this year or ever, their getting paid GOOD $$$$$. #4 stepan NEEDS to get more involved physically to ramp up his game, i know that's not his type of game but he needs to show other teams he's not not going to put up with any of threir BS and i'll bet it'll up his game tremedously, he's too talanted !! AND it's now getting to be fun to watch the rangers play again, hope it continues. by the way let's give del zotto some more time , unless sather can steal another "mcd".
I don't understand why people were complaining about carbomb fighting w/ a 3-0 lead including the awful nbc analysts. Did he take an instigator penalty? No. Did the rangers come out flat after the fight? The complete opposite. Like you mentioned here, the flyers started to get chippy and I'm tired of seeing our goalies get run through with no response. Just seeing and hearing Carbomb drop the F-bomb from the bench (great job NBC) WAS AWESOME AND WELL OVER DUE! Can't wait for Dorsett to get back w/ Car Bomb! This team looks amazing!
@TheNYRBlog This is why I respect your opinion more then others. You understand the game, and why it's important to have these type of guys!
sweet game. Absolutely loved Carcilos play. hank was amazing, should have had a shutout . Its beginning to come around!
Since the Columbus game, there has been a different energy and intensity to the Rangers. Seriously, it's like watching a different team, and I know this was mentioned previously, but man, what a crowd! I had trouble falling asleep I was so geeked up about how they played!
@TheNYRBlog No one cares what Torts thinks anymore. He's gone. Let it go.
Mentioned it a few weeks ago after a similar game, but the Sunday games at MSG seems to be when the real fans show up. Saturday is for families, Monday - Friday is suits, but Sundays the die-hards come out. That photo says its all! Full seats, almost everyone in some form of Rangers Gear.! If that game were played on a Tuesday most of those seats would have still been empty 3 minutes in to the game, and the people that were there would still be loosening their ties and checking their phones.
@TheNYRBlog "...i can watch Zuccarello to Brassard all day long" A to the MEN!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't had this kind of jump in my step since the morning after my wedding night! I found the fountain of youth, and it comes from kicking the flyers azz!!!!!!!
Im trying very hard not to get excited with their play till i see them continue this play after the Olympic break but last night made me smile
Not sure if those at home could see it, but Carbomb faked a check near the bench while coming back at the end of his shift and made whoever it was on Philly flinch.... Just the attitude the Rangers need!
Carcillo is exactly what this (formerly) lifeless team has needed and then-some! He was definitely the agitator we've been sorely missing up until this point.I really thought Simmonds was going to absolutely demolish Boyle...who I knew wouldn't even dare throw a single punch...actually, I'm not even sure the guy even knows how to.This was a great, classic Rangers-Flyers rivalry game. Real fun game to watch for sure.
That was triumphantly glorious stuff ! Everyone was excellent. Only minor issues to me we're 1. They could have scored wayyyyyy more. 2. Paging Dr. Stepan...
Been at least a season and a half since we saw anyone on our bench jawing with the other. Pierre looked genuinely nervous bahahah
Only.thing that sucked is that once again Boyle scared to mix it up!..Simmonds treated him like a school girl. JOHN MOORE can throw down though haha ..boy is fearless when angered...love it!!!
Is anyone else a little worried about how much Carcillo's former teammates hate him? What did he do to them?
Carcillo shined tonight. I would call this a marquee game for him, and I'm negating the fact that he literally scored a goal. His presence kept the Flyers in check while the Rangers held on to a lead. This team has been missing that factor. I LOVE IT.
We could give up something cheap for Brian McGrattan on the Flames. Could make for a fun fourth line.
@Jeff_Brosnan It was just a joke man. I let Torts go a long time ago.
I agree ... but an enforcer that can play and get in on the forecheck. Not sure if that type of player is out there and available but I still think the Rangers lineup should have a 4th lilne of Boyle, Carcillo and Haley. D Moore can play against the less physical teams. Will be interesting to see what happens when Dorsett comes back.
@Lordstanleybroadway We want Messier!!!!
Nah...they just have more guys that can and will throwem......simmonds rosehill both scchenns. They werent intimidated by our one middleweight. Thats all. Im sure they are friends off the ice.
Absolutely!!!! I posted that a few weeks ago. Either McGrattan or Bordeleau
@JoshKaye Josh... that would be music to my ears.... then no one would screw with us and our skill players could go and play with confidence... let's just get the best in the business... then we will make it out of the East and run for the Cup.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne We don't need to overdo it... but we need ONE MORE tough guy... what if we got McQuaid or McGrattan.... either would not cost a lot and would REALLY ADD VALUE to our competitiveness... no one would f-ck with us!!!
@TheNYRBlog Did not know that. Thanks!
@SATHER OUT MCILRATH IN @JoeyKocur Let's see what we have to give up to get him...
@JoeyKocur@KreiderisTheChosenOne No way Boston are giving up McQuaid without getting back something valuable, he's developed into a great defenseman, who can drop the gloves with anyone and plays big minutes for them. McGrattan on the other hand, I could see that getting pulled off especially since the Flames just signed Westgarth and Calgary seem to be in a rebuilding stage.
