The New York Rangers (23-20-3) defeated the Dallas Stars (20-17-7) by the score of 3-2, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
Alain Vigneault reported after the game that JT Miller has been sent down to Hartford so he can play in both of their games this weekend.
...remember earlier in the season when the Rangers would get down a goal and you knew the game was over? Not anymore Rangers fans. I got to be honest, I wasn't sure we'd ever see this kind of fight from the Blueshirts on a consistent basis and that's exactly what we've gotten the last few weeks. Damn, it's fun being a Rangers fan again.
...i guess Nash took his own advice about needing to go to the net. If he can make a living there for the remainder of the season, he's going to score a lot of big goals.
...not sure I've had a bigger smile on my face watching a game this season as when Carcillo crashed the crease and gave a Dallas defender a crosscheck to the lower back after the whistle. That's the kind of snarl that's been missing. When the Rangers sagged in the second period it was his physical play that seemed to give the team a lift. And is the likely reason Miller is on a bus back to Hartford right now.
...in the beginning of the season, there were lots of questions about where Pouliot's head was, but now it's 100% in the game as you're not going to see a smarter play than the one he made to stay onsides and spring Richards for the Callahan goal.
...and the linesman just dropped the puck for another faceoff.
...that Brassard/Zuccarello combination on the power play is magic. Not the first time we've seen that redirect play from those two. Amazing that the power play unit comprised of the secondary players is much more dangerous than the one with the supposed top tier players.
...Lundqvist's not there yet, but he's getting close.
...can this team just score a frickin' empty net goal so I don't need to drink every drop of alcohol in my house.
...two wide open looks in the slot and Stepan can't even get a shot off. I thought he finally seemed to get it together late, but he needs to start producing.
...loved Boyle in the final minute just pounding on Star players in front of the net to keep them out of Hank's sight lines. It's the little things folks.
...over the last week, Richards has played like he wants to give the Rangers a tough decision regarding a buyout this summer. Dammit!!!!!
...Wednesday night's win in Chicago would have been negated with a loss tonight so this was a huge victory. And it's not so much that they won, it's how they won. They were fast, physical, resilient and clutch. You know, the polar opposite of what we were subjected to the first three months of the season. Get pumped Rangers fans, you're team is starting to get exciting.
...off tomorrow then a statement game against the rival Flyers who are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now.
Post game talk...
Richards has found his game again since Cally has been back in the line-up and on his line. That line has 5 Goals in the last 4 games, and Cally and Richards made big assists on Nash's PP goal aganst Columbus. They have very good chemistry and are creating a lot of scoring chances, especially with Hags also on that line.
i was at this game last night. i was literally shaking thats how the nerve racking the end of the game was!
Who would of thought Number 5 or 6 PP and led by Zucc and Nash and Richards playing against their old teams is what was needed for them to play hard.
Speaking of Nash, him going to the net and getting inside is a revelation?
Also adding a little toughness to the lineup wouldn't be a bad thing.
Didn't notice MDZ much, I guess that is good thing or have to hear about his agent.
Hank looks like he getting his confidence. 8.5 million reasons to like that.
I hope the Olympics do something for Stepan since he doesn't have former team to play against.
Watched the Dallas feed and the color guy actually said that Carcillo comes out from under bridge and then puts his uniform on... not much love
Brassard may have the "magic" on the PP but 5 on 5 he has been dreadful..Two even strength goals in 45 games! He and Stepan have 7 even strength goals between them!! Why not let Miller play a bit and sit these two underachievers (they are too comfortable!)...maybe they get their heads out of their asses
I liked seeing Nash's huge smile after his goal. At least suggests a passion that sometimes seems lacking with him when he is just cruising around the ice.
Was at the game. awesome game. Carcillo literally finished his check every time he was on the ice, I kept an eye on him every time he was out there and it helped with his shifts and the shifts after he got off the ice. Great sight to see. The Nash goal was sick. Garden erupted after that. I got on him a bit after that failed break away, I guess he heard me ;)
Carcillo played a very good game tonight...and was utilized well by Veeno. As I said when we traded for him....it's not his fighting....but his hitting that I love.
I and many others on this board could see the Rangers lacked toughness. The acquisition of Carcillo was a good one. He threw the body plenty tonight....and hitting is infectious with a hockey club.
Now, he's still one man. Cally coming back was also key in our hitting picking up. We need one more banger.....and we don't have to trade for him this time.
Sunday we play the Flyers. CALL UP HALEY ASAP. Take D. Moore out of the line-up....and our 4th line will be Carcillo- Haley- Boyle....or have Boyle center Carcillo and Haley on the wings.
Carcillo and Haley can both skate. They both are big hitters....and they both can throw down. Haley is wearing the "A" in Hartford....he's excelling at faceoffs....the kid is ready...right now. Don't forget....Haley played well enough that Torts even gave him time with Nash on the first line when he was up last year.
Guys and gals.....think about it. You will have Haley and Carcillo throwing big hits.....and then add Boyle's 250lbs to the mix.
That is a tough and physical 4th line......and they can PLAY THE GAME.
And you can also, on occasion, have Haley ride shotgun on the top two lines when our skilled players start getting hit too much. Just like the Islanders do with Tavares...every now and then Matt Martin plays on his line. It sends a message....it keeps the opponent "honest". You're sending a message. ...you're looking out for and protecting your scorers.
You put Haley, Boyle and Carcillo together....and that my friends will be a tremendous ENERGY line. Do the right thing Sather....get Haley up here and ready for Sunday.
I would say put Cally on the PP instead of Step or Kreider but Cally's 5 on 5 has been excellent since coming back from injury. It would be too many mins for him to play on the PP, a top line 5 on 5, PK, and defensive zone mins. He has a +4 since coming back, has become part of the top line for the Rangers, and AV is using him in key defense situations and it's been working. Would of loved an EN goal from him though.
He is no more dreadful than Stepan... who has contributed a big fat 0......nas said is cheaper.. contract wise.. and spacial teams seems to be his niche right now... power play was rank #6 in the league. That where we win games
I think he is back
haha me too i was fuming after he missed the breakaway
That's what a physical... tough guy brings. . Guys play looser and start finish checks....
For those talking negative about an enforcer or physical players in line can kiss ass... u don't know what ur talking about... This isn't the olympics or the all star game....
U gotta hit and finish checks. Make the other team make mistakes and take out there game...that makes room for ur star players to do their thing
I don't care what kind of game Haley would bring. We're playing our best hockey of the season and we're a better overall team with Moore in, especially since he's one of the main guys on the penalty kill. Also, we had 37 hits tonight...I think we'll do fine without Haley.
@McPhee37You can see how Carcillo's physicality was rubbing off on the rest of the team as Del Zotto, Pouliot and Callahan all had big hits after Carcillo started running wild on the Stars.
@mando24179I panned Stepan, too..You cant rely completely on PP...Ranger centers have a total of 20 even strength goals in 46 games...that sucks!!
@dsclaw88 Why so serious ? ;)
@mando24179 I don't see it that way. To me Haley is a career minor laager who should be used only in an emergency situation.
@mando24179 You're kidding rite? Haley in place of Boyle, I'm glad you're not the GM. You would be worse then Sather.
Guess u didn't see him last yr in the play offs. Haley 2 as on blast mode.....hitting. breakaway.... etc
We were playing great hockey in 1994 at the the trade deadline when Smith made his big trades. Why did he make those trades Josh?? Because Neil Smith saw the weaknesses.....and he was thinking about how to make the team stronger for the playoffs.
Scratching D. Moore and playing Haley for a night wont be the end of the world.
In my eyes.... this was our best game of the season. We came from behind....we outhit the Stars.....we were the aggressor.
Think it through for a second. When I played, I was one of four big hitters on my team....and one of the main three fighters. At no time, we're we ever outmatched physically. There was always an element of physicality to my club.
When you play a physical game...you get banged up. It's the nature of the beast. And when you're throwing the gloves down as well.....injuries happen often.....you have to play hurt a lot...play through injury...and yes....miss some games as well.
With the kind of game Carcillo plays.....he will get hurt or be playing hurt at some point. With Haley also on the team.....its back-up in a way.
Suppose Carcillo gets in a fight...throws a lot of hits....and the next game he's just sore all over. If he plays hurt...he'll at the very least be ineffective....if he's out of the line-up.....you lose that important facet of toughness and physicality. But with Haley and Carcillo in the line-up.....they can pick up the slack for each other when one of them is banged up and playing ineffective. And if one of them goes down with an injury....the other one picks up all the slack. You will still some element of toughness...even with an injury.
Hitting is infectious Kevin...hockey has always been like that. Put Haley with Carcillo and Boyle....and its going to be our 4th line who's pushing people around. Cally coming back was one piece....Carcillo was another....bring up Haley.....and you change the whole dynamic of the team. It's a freaking no-brainer.
My point again.....Stepan wad billed and hyped to be the #1 center... He went as far as to market himself and hold out for #1 center base pay at 5.5 mill.....
Brassard has been our #3 center...and never billed as a #1 or #2...
The difference e here is.. Brassard has excelled o. the power play...While Stepan.. has not
Going forward again...Stepan playing with all stars. and Brassard playing with Zucc and Pouliot
And that's out #1 PP unit now..and has risen as of last might to #6.. thanks to all contributing...
And stepan is a ghost. ...has underachieved most of his career...but for some reason thinks he is a superstar by his own standards proof of this is his request for contract.. He had 1 very good shortened season yr.. in his free agent yr
. And has not lived up to his request for contrac t nor his current contract
@mando24179My original point was that DS and DB are underachieving badly. If you cant see that we arent watching the same game
Capitals Pens Chicago have relied on their PP for yrs and it's helps them win games...conaistantly...
When ur PP is dangerous the other team is afraid to take penalties. .. gives u more liberties. ...
And u draw more penatlies...Cause now they are under pressure
Sorry Fan....but you're wrong about Haley. He can play on the NHL level. He proved it last year when he was up with us....he's not a liability on the ice. The kid can play....
And this year with the Pack...Haley has upped his game....he has taken on a leadership role with the club....and he's gotten so good on faceoffs....Coach Gernander is using him to take faceoffs late in games in the defensive zone.
The kid is 28 and ready for primetime. Bring him up
Again u must NOT have watched him last yr in the playoffs... the guy was a one man wrecking machine when he played...and isn't scared of anyone.. and can make plays..
Yeah I'm serious. U must be in love with Boyle then... lmao. Am I serious yeah pendejo I am.....DMoore can kill penalties. Win faceoffs. AND has a better scoring touch. ....love affair with a cotex wearing lerch.... u better hope Boyle doesn't get brave starts yapping his mouth he is not scaring anyone. ... Cause he is big.... everyone in the league knows he soft
Um the same guy that was supporting Zuc when everyone talking shit that he was to small....and had no skill
Same guy calling for brassard to be put on tbe PP
Same guy calling for them to add some muscle to the line up
How the fuck has that been working out? So u can seriously put ur helmet back on and go play in traffic... Calling me out as a worst gm. Everything I have called for when done has worked..
Yeah..Yeah....heard the same thing last year....lol. I'm Haley's Dad...I'm Haley's agent...yada yada yada.
Everybody joked. But then you know what happened....I was proven right. And as we got bounced around by the Bruins in the playoffs....I sat here and read this board and watch a whole lot of people cry for Haley to be put into the line-up.....
And just like I tell my wife...."Honey...you have no idea how hard it is to be me..and to be right all the time....its a burden"
She then will usually throw something at me...but that's besides the point. :)
@mando24179 What's wrong tough guy? You don't like anyone disagreeing with your sorry ass. Get your facts straight sh*t for brains. I've posted numerous times on this site that Haley should be called up. From NY and I've been a fan of his game since he was with the Islanders and he beat the shit out Stu Bickel. Loved it when he went after Brent Johnson of the Pens. I was calling for him to stay in the lineup last year. I posted on this site a few weeks ago that the Rangers need an enforcer. Someone like McGrattan or Bordeleau. You obviously don't know how to read.
Read my previous post sh*t for brains ... Hags, Cally and Richards has been our best line the past 2-3 games is what I said. I didn't say they were our best line overall. I agreed with you that we should have Haley in the lineup just not at Hags expense. Get your facts straight before you open up your mouth and prove who is really stupid ... I agreed with you moron about Haley. I only disagree about Hags and think it should be Moore who sits. What's wrong? You don't like anyone disagreeing with you. Shut the hell up. You're pathetic with your responses. I've played more hockey and know more about the game than you can fathom. Let me spell this out for you so you can understand .... I AGREE WITH YOU WHEN YOU SAY HALEY SHOULD BE IN THE LINEUP. I AGREE THAT THE RANGERS NEED TO BE A MORE PHYSICAL TEAM ESPECIALLY AGAINST TEAM LIKE THE FLYERS AND BRUINS. Get that??? Now go back to being that scared little pansy who got bullied in school. You're a waste of my time ....
Lmao @ as u heard... what a great fan u are... don't even know the talent in our system...... whatever u say dude. Lmao. What a tool.. read up on our players man. So u can have some credibility....in responses. ..u probably don't even know who the guy is. Never seen him play. As far as u been hearing...... do me a solid dude. Don't respond to me.. When I post.. u come across like u are know it all and always with a sarcastic remark like ur panties are in a bunch....clueless to hockey and how it's played. When u say our best line is Cally hags and Richards u must be smoking crack.stop with ur BS assessments on what players do..... Hags doesn't control the puck behind the net or is one of the only..... STOP u sound as stupid as Micoletti. Match up our speed did u not reading my post evidently u did not how surprising....
again when the Flyers begin to lose that when all hell breaks loose... the cheap shots come in. The dirty hits start. And Hags isn't that type of physical player...
.same guy that said we don't need an enforcer or why we need to be physical....
U are always against a physical player or playing physical. Dude do me a solid.... don't read my post seriously. After watching last night's game and seeing what Carcillo brought u think u'd have a clue to just stay quiet...Ur the poster child for non violence in the nhl
His turn? How many selke trophies has anyone won on the Rangers? Hags maybe not be physical but he's one of only a few Rangers that actually controls the puck below the goal line and wins battles for the puck. You don't break up your best line to match up with the Flyers. How about making them match up to the Rangers speed. You want Haley in the lineup and so do I but I disagree about sitting Hags. Keep the top 3 lines as they are and sit D Moore instead. If Haley is as effective winning faceoffs as I've been hearing then sitting Moore is the way to go. 4th line of Haley, Boyle and Carcillo. Haley for D Moore for as you put it 1 game is the way to go ... The end....
U ask why.. and I will ask u why not? He isn't a physical player...it's one game I didn't banish him to hell.... so then not him who would u sit. ....When u play philly u have to match the physical aspects. Cause once they start to lose... the cheap shots start. The dirty hits start. And the fighting starts.....last time I look he is neither a physical guy or a fighter....only way he would get away from that is skate as fast as he could to the locker room... He can sit one game. He won't die.. from it. .... While he does that u tell me how many selke trophies he has won....
If he hasn't won any I don't owe an explanation of why sit him... u sit him cause it his turn. The end....
Why would you sit Hags? That's been our best line the past 2-3 games. He seems to click with Richards and Cally
Yes...it would a tough decision. I would prefer to keep Boyle in...250lbs...is 250lbs..lol.
All I'm asking for is for AV to use his players like Capuano does with the Islanders. When the Islanders play less physical teams...Matt Martin and Carkner. But when you play tougher more physical teams....Capuano comes loaded for bear....Martin, Carkner and Boulton are in the line-up.
What's wrong with bringing Haley up and using him in that regard? I would prefer to be the aggressor and the intimidating team every night...but that's just me.
At the very least, bring up Haley...and have him and Carcillo both in the line-up against physical clubs.
The Flyers, Pens...Bruins...etc....if you know you're going to be in for a physical battle....be prepared and have the proper players in their proper roles...in the line-up. Two adages....
"You don't bring a knife to a gun fight"...
"It's better to have tough guys in your line-up and not need them....then to need tough guys and not have them"
I agree with you 100%. Rinaldo is out hurt btw.
This isn't about Messing up lines it's about matching up physically. ....they have Simmons. Ronaldo.. grossman....Hartnell...and that young kid that likes to fight...
We got to be smart about that... Also falk needs to play as well...
