The New York Rangers have announced that Henrik Lundqvist will start against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, while Dan Carcillo will be a healthy scratch for his first game as a Ranger.
Carcillo said he's still adjusting to east coast time, so he understands why he's sitting in the press box tonight.
Carcillo also joked that he had to scan the Rangers roster after hearing about the trade to see if there was still anyone on the team who hated him from his days as a Flyer...
"I was kind of shocked, but I welcome it. This is a good place to be. Great team. Young. It's a great opportunity to bring whatever I can with leadership and experience, and help in any way they want me to."
Carcillo added this on what went wrong after leaving Philly...
"My time in Chicago was hard because of the injuries and trying to come back from that, but the organization was great to me and obviously winning was a great experience. This year I started feeling like myself again. It took me a few years, so that's encouraging."
Here's Alain Vigneault on what Carcillo brings to the table...
"He brings an energy level..a physical dimension that I think teams need. You need that greasy type player that brings that emotion and energy and grinding game to the forefront. I think Dan brings that. He's done it in the past, and when we do need him I think he'll be a good force for us."
...with AV's propensity not to tinker with a lineup after a win, I'm not shocked at all to see Carcillo as a healthy scratch. In fact, I'm more surprised that Lundqvist is getting the start.
...listen, Talbot is nowhere near the goaltender Lundqvist is, but with the way the Rangers play in front of him, he doesn't need to be. I'd much rather have a great effort in front of a good goaltender than a poor showing in front of an elite netminder. And that's exactly the scenario playing out for the Blueshirts this season.
talbot should be starting tonit, if you can win with him, start him. might just give henrik a little incentive to stop MORE pucks.
"Carcillo also joked that he had to scan the Rangers roster after hearing about the trade to see if there was still anyone on the team who hated him from his days as a Flyer..."
...then he saw the names of players who were still here and realized he had nothing to worry about...
...except that there was no one here to stick up for him now...
I have 0 faith in Hank winning tonight. Because i feel the Rangers just won't show up with him starting. Why mess with winning? Makes no sense. Talbot deserved at least 1 more start in a row. Couldn't care less about Hanks ridiculous contract. Talbot deserved to start this one at the very least.
the key here is that the guys in front of either goalie need to do their jobs. I know that's a lot to ask, but it has to happen or we will be a .500 team all year.
@TheNYRBlog Hank gets the start tonight as a trial to see if he's able to start in Chicago. I also imagine pressure from above is a factor.
@TheNYRBlog AV wants Talbot against Blackhawks? Chance for Henrik to step it up? They knew I was going tonight and want to make me twitch?
@johnnyb3910 I wonder if, like most enforcers, Carcillo is a good guy off the ice, but gets into this mad rage on it? Has anyone met the guy? I, for one, don't know him.... all I know is that he can be violent, and he protects his teammates.... do you all remember CHRIS SIMON... now that was a madman... and a bigger brute then Carcillo.... but Ranger fans came to appreciate what he did for the club.... Hell, at this point, I would take just about anyone with a little snarl... we have played well, but at times, we play soooooo damn boring....
@DominickAndreula We are generalizing too much.... we have not sucked in ALL the games that Hank has played... Hank too must take some blame. He's let in more than a few questionable goals. Or, maybe we are spoiled? Last year our team sucked in more than a few games... Torts lost ten years of his life all stressed out about how our team sucked and how if it wasn't Hank, we would have lost or gotten clobbered.... so, being a bad team is nothing new!!! We are experts doing that since at least last year!!!!
@johnAMIRANTESrug I'm afraid that is our fate.... we are like the Washington Capitals.... we are "wannabes".... until RICHARDS, NASH and LUNDQVIST live up to their billing and start playing like the superstars they are being paid to play like.... we will always be cruising around .500
@robertsonbg @TheNYRBlog This is a message to Kevin: I agree with you.... I'd rather have a great team in front of a so-so goalie, than a so so team in front of a great goalie.... but remember last year.... there were SO MANY GAMES that we played poorly in front of Hank, yet he bailed us out.... I can't even begin to count the number of times when players interviewed after the game said stuff like: "Hank was incredible....if was all Hank tonight.... Hank is the reason we won...." so many times we had to lean on Hank. The difference this year, is that when we play mediocre or poorly, Hank has NOT bailed us out.... he has lost a step recently... not sure why, I hope it is just a funk, but Hank is not the same Hank as he was last year. Last year, he would have stopped a lot of the soft goals he allowed high on his glove side. I am a bit worried we overpaid for a goalie who was great, but now might be just good.... I hope I am wrong.
@TheSandmanEsq I think Hank gets Blackhawks no matter what.
@JoeyKocur@johnnyb3910Derek Boogaard was well known as a bit of a charitable guy, despite his off-ice issues, he did a lot of work with Military Families in Minnesota and NY, as well as with the Garden of Dreams.
Hockey players are always appreciated for the "down-to-earth" attitudes. Even the nut jobs on the ice need to have a way to turn it off, otherwise they'll end up in prison for beating the crap out of someone at a bar.
Wouldnt be surprised if we come to like Carcillo, I'm jsut not ready to do it yet. But as soon as he jumps someone for taking a run at Nash or Kreider or Hank, I'm sure we'll all be on board. Hopefully in the meantime he can keep his game on the right side of the line and not give AV a reason to scratch him.
I agree. Only way we beat the Hawks is if we have our A goaltender's A game.
@TheNYRBlog I know you are right, and I know I am wrong for thinking this, but Henrik scares me this season.
@TheSandmanEsq @TheNYRBlog Scares me too, Sandman... scares me too.... frightens me that we have locked him in for seven years... reminds me of another Ranger fella named BRAD RICHARDS!!!!! :-(
