Danny Kristo scored his team leading 13th goal in the Wolfpack's 5-3 loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last night.
In his first game since being assigned to Hartford, JT Miller was pointless with a -2 and three shots on goal.
The Wolfpack also received goals from the recently acquired TJ Hensick and Ryan Bourque.
Michael Haley got into his first fight since returning to the lineup from a sports hernia that caused him to miss all of December.
Here's video of Kristo's goal (1:04 mark)...
TheNYRBlog reader johnAMIRANTESrug was at the game and gave this recap...
"Miller was a man amongst boys and showed a lot of puck control skills. Allen looked big, poised, and had good wheels. Fast was underwhelming but is pretty sound defensively. Kristo looked pretty impressive. He's not afraid to throw checks and muck it up but he is still super skilled. Haley fought and got under people skin. Lindburg was a bit of a disappointment. Not a great game from him."
...with the way the Rangers have been playing, unless they completely fall apart or there's an injury, I wonder if Miller might be in Hartford permanently. Which may not be the worst idea. He's been impressive, but there's still plenty of things he needs to work on. The reality is there really isn't a spot for him in the lineup, unless you want him getting nine minutes a night on the fourth line. Not sure how that helps him develop.
...Kristo has been a bright spot down in Hartford all season. All the minutes he's gaining in the AHL should have him ready to make a serious run at a roster spot in camp next season.
...while it's been so far so good for Carcillo, if he falters at any point, I think Haley needs to be recalled ahead of Miller. He brings the same agitating, tough guy style, while also being able to provide some skill. To be honest, I wouldn't be 100% against him being recalled while Dorsett continues to recover from injury anyway. A fourth line of Haley-Boyle-Carcillo would drive opponents nuts. While he's had his moments, I really haven't been all that impressed with D. Moore and think he's easily replaceable.
Id rather see Haley instead of Dorsett. Haley is bigger, stronger on the puck and can actually win a scrap. Offensively, I think they are the same player..I like that 4th line idea...D. Moore has done nothing special to impress me either
millers stat line doesn't show how good he was. he was used on PK and PP and was making things happen on both. he also dangled around opponents to create chances for himself and others.
kristo was really fun to watch. saveret saucered him a sick pass from our goal line to the opponents blue and as soon as it hit his tape I knew he knew what to do with it. he seemed to play with a lot of confidence.
@TheNYRBlog Dubi is on the trade market, i would love to see Sather bring him back
If Haley, Boyle and Carcillo worked, it could save us some assets to use on other weaknesses that have to be addressed at trading deadline.
@TheNYRBlog Luv the Haley-Boyle-carcillo idea. Give the big man with skill but no bite a couple of pit bulls on his side. think it wood work
If Haley can go out and kill penalties while bringing some decent offensive skill than okay, fine, scratch Dom Moore. I would prefer to keep Dom Moore in the lineup...our penalty kill is going well...why ruin that?
@TheNYRBlog would not mind seeing Kristo this year but needs 12-15 min at least
@TheNYRBlog you act like miller played a terrible game. His -2 came on a terrible goal that Missiean should have had and an EN Goal.
""""A fourth line of Haley-Boyle-Carcillo would drive opponents nuts"""""""
Please let it happen....please let it happen.....please let it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Noooo, J.T. Miller will get it all figured out eventually & be a superstar in Manhattan down the road. :)
@TheNYRBlog Haley's been awful. Take that back.
@JohnScibior I heard that rumor was inaccurate.
Why can't Haley be brought up and rotated into the line-up against physical clubs?? Yeah...Moore is a good on the PK...but we also have other penalty killers. As for offense...Moore has 7 points....its not like you're going to scratch a 30 goal scorer.
You have to have balance... skill and physical players....you can't just have a skill player at all 12 forward positions. Toughness and physical play has been a huge problem for us. Carcillo was a step in the right direction...but he's not enough. You can scratch Moore...at least versus physical teams and insert haley....it will help..not hurt us.
@JoshKayeTeam has plenty of penalty killers: Stepan, Hags, Boyle and Cally. Hell, even Nash was good on the pk in Columbus.
@JoshKayeI wouldn't make the move right now with the team playing so well, but if they falter it might be worth a try.
@nyrgoal99 Yeah, he's definitely not being recalled.
@Willc22 I do? Read my post, I say nothing like that at all.
It might and would be fun but Haley and Carcillo are overall not as useful/well rounded players as Dorsett and D.Moore. They don't skate as well, they don't kill penalties and likely wouldn't generate the offensive zone time as Boyle, Moore, Dorsett do.
@McPhee37Had you in mind when I wrote that McPhee.
How's Haley been awful Herman?
@Herman_NYRBlog You know I have blinders on when it comes ot guys like that.
@TheNYRBlog I figured it was too good to be true. Hes exactly what this team needs
@TheNYRBlog re read your tweet.. it comes off super negative about miller.
@TheNYRBlog thats the way it came off to me.. But I agree, let him stay in Hartford with Kristo and kill it.
@Willc22 Didn't mean it to sound that way. Just pointing out stat line which would have nothing to do with any decision to keep him in HFD.
