Apparently Henrik Lundqvist got some new pads...
These are very similar to one of the rumored set of pads he's said to be wearing for Stadium Series games (see here).
...while I like the striping, without the Rangers logo at the top of the pad (as seen on the rumored pads), they seem very plain to me. With the way he bedazzles all his masks and his sense of fashion, I would expect more.
...i also wonder if these are going to be his Stadium Series pads or if he's going with the also rumored pinstriped ones. (see here).
Quiet day at practice with the only news of note that Dan Girardi was given a maintenance day.
...Girardi, similar to everyone else who has struggled for most of the season, seems to be coming around a bit lately. Every except for Stepan, I should say.
...remember how lost he was in AV's defensive scheme earlier this season? Seems a lot more comfortable and confident out there. He's even back to block shots again as evidenced by his nine blocks in the last two games. I wonder if this is boosting his trade value or possibly costing the Rangers more money to re-sign him?
I'm pretty sure Hank will be wearing the pin striped pads after all...
I think Girardi (and many others) are benefiting from AV adapting honestly. If you watch the way the NYR are playing now, they're still playing man on man, but with much more zone support, so that someone is backing up the other player if necessary. It's creating more puck possession, more puck support, and better coverage in both offensive/neutral/defensive zones. The only ones I still see struggling with the more "adapted" system are Stepan & DelZotto.
Kevin go to hockey fights com and check out mashinters fight it will make you giddy then sick he was traded
I went to the wolfpack game tonight and met ulf samuelsson. He was there watching his kid and the pack prospects. He couldn't have been a nicer guy. I told him McPhee wants to see more grit and overall team punching. I shook the hand that punched a hundred plus men!!!
We lost but overall they played really well into the 3rd and then the wheels fell off. Miller was a man amongst boys and showed a lot of puck control skills. Allen looked big, poised, and had good wheels. Fast was underwhelming but is pretty sound defensively. Kristo looked pretty impressive. He's not afraid to throw checks and muck it up but he is still super skilled. Haley fought and got under people skin. Lindburg was a bit of a disappointment. Not a great game from him.
That is all.
Yep, the white is helpful. It's harder for the shooter to see where the pads end and the ice begins.
I played competitively, though not nearly at the pro level, and will tell you that I always found it easier to shoot on a goalie with dark pads, jersey, gloves, etc... There were just certain times when things were crazy and you were finding the puck and trying to shoot at the same time...could barely look up, or even perhaps only see for an instant from the periphery and it was always easier when there was a stark contrast between goalie and open space. Hey...they made the Flyers stop wearing those long black pants in the early eighties bc they thought it hid the puck a bit. Every little bit helps..no matter how small. I'm surprised more goalies don't employ such tactics, seeking any advantage, no matter how small. I'm not saying that is what Hank is doing here, but you never know. Hey, he could use any advantage he can get right now, so I wouldn't mind if he had pads that looked exactly like the boards...logos and all..lol.
I like these pads. The plainer look consisting mostly of white is actually helpful to the goalie. Remember when Marc Andre Fleury used to wear those Taxicab pads? He no longer does now. Idk if these pads are just for the stadium series or if he'll use them after but that's my two cents.
@TheNYRBlog how cld the rangers move girardi at this point and honestly improve the team? Sure he'll walk but nothing we can now.
@TheNYRBlog heard he can't go with the pinstriped pads bc the Yankees were gonna get him for copyright infringement
except for what you said about Lindberg
Kinda like Gretzky, when he started using that ultra reflective aluminum Easton stick, and lots of goalies were complaining about how distracting it was. I'm surprised more players don't employ tactics like that now. Is there a rule against it?
True. They could have Hello Kitty graphics all over them, and as long as he's stopping pucks with them, I don't care.
@TheNYRBlog maybe because he used the Yankees colors also on the pads..who knows?
@TheNYRBlog you watching this lightning/flyers game? Flyers on a back to back tomorrow..rangers at home..what could go wrong?
@irishpride159 I hope he can use them. I think they're awesome. And that's coming from a Mets fan.
