According to the Rangers, they have reassigned Conor Allen to the Hartford Wolfpack.
Allen was pointless with a -1 in three games after being recalled on December 28th. He was a healthy scratch last night in Toronto.
...Del Zotto's agents must be pretty persuasive, because since they sat down with Sather yesterday, Allen was pulled from the lineup and is now in Hartford.
...i literally have no idea what the Rangers plan is for their defense. All I hear from AV is how much he doesn't trust Del Zotto and now it looks like he's getting another chance? I have to assume this is one final showcase of Del Zotto before he's finally sent packing.
...i thought Allen looked real comfortable and was looking forward to his game progressing as AV became more comfortable increasing his ice time. I guess as AV likes to say, it was a "numbers game."
BTW, this kid had 10g & 31a for 41 points in 2011-12 with a plus 20 in 77 games. Maybe playing playing with a better team would help? He's at -7, while Staal and Stralman (2nd pair) are at -8 and -7, respectively. Girardi is a -4 and Falk is a -5. Basically, outside of McD, they've all been for shit...
Just so I understand...MDZ is the root cause of all the Rangers' ills so far this season? Lundquist has been average to poor for the most part, Nash is massively underachieving, overall team softness on most nights, etc., etc., but a guy who plays primarily on the third pair is the big problem? WTF? Hey Kevin, I love your blog, but your agenda against MDZ has gotten way out of hand. I'll be the first to admit the kid has struggled, but who on this team hasn't? Even my main man Zucc had to be scratched before becoming one of the team's best players. Can you tell me the Rangers record with and w/o MDZ in the lineup? Also, the +/- of all the dmen excluding Allen and McIlrath? Better yet, I'll look them up and get back to you...
The problem with the NYR is they can't stick by a damn decision. Hasn't it been determined that MDZ is done in NY? Ship him out. Stop flip flopping already! Move on...
Slather is playing a numbers game! He is an idiot! He is seeing what he can get for g, dz, and Allen, and I believe del Zotto will pick it up, and we trade g. It makes me sad, losing a warrior
We would all like to see MDZ and Boyle play like Orr and Messier, but they are ok where they are. Trading them for other expendable players is no plan or path to a championship. Please! The problem is that the stars, who are paid like stars, who get all the ice time of stars, get all the pp time of stars and get the best possible line mates as stars have not played like stars for the entire season. Thats Nash, Richards and Lundquist. They are all tied up in big money, long term deals and their stats for the year show that they are all dramatically underperforming. If they dont produce the Rangers are toast. Lets just stop looking for MDZ and Boyle to be different players because they are just fine.
@TheNYRBlog I'm so over MDZ I really hope he & his agent demanded a trade & this is a final showcase. Much rather have Allen in than MDZ
Allen was here to cover for Staal in case he couldn't go. Staal's OK so now Allen is back. It's not rocket science. And do you really think that they're going to sit a 23 year old defenseman 2 years removed from a 40+ point season in the hopes of trading him for a bag of pucks. Puhlease!! They want to pump his value back up, which means playing him and hoping he's solid.
Typical rangers trade mill. Stretch it out for as long as possible. Drag every name through the media. Then do nothing.
If you don't know what's wrong with Del Zerro, you don't watch the defensive game. Slow and out of position.
Kind of a bad message to be sending to other young ones in Hartford. Even if you play well may not be room for you.
@TheNYRBlog 'i literally have no idea what the NYR plan is for their defense.' Sather hasn't had a plan since he added Nash & AV's an idiot.
@TheNYRBlog he had a good game. Needs to play. It's best for now. Boost value. Allen is young. He can always comeback up. Plus Carbomb.
@TheNYRBlog OR maybe the teams said to have interest want to see him play?..OOps there goes his value
@TheNYRBlog is his agent going to play? Because I don't know what kind of talk can make one forget how bad MDZ has been.
I just don't get it. He has no trade value and brings nothing to the table. Let the kid grow. How many chances can you showcase him whilst he's a liability
@TheNYRBlog wow that's bullshit!! I've had enough of this crap!! Next Miller will be sent down or sat
@TheNYRBlog what a fucking joke. Unbelievable in this town Sather has zero media or fan accountability.
for now I would imagine it is splitting time with DZ and Falk based on opponent. Don't think there will be a trade made before the Olympics unless there is a drastic change. Btw Kevin Lindberg has been playing his best hockey the last 10-15 games. I think he has finally gotten accustomed to NHL ice... FREE LINDBERG!!! send bad knees brad to the press box to preserve his health for the inevitable buyout
@Zucc36I dont think anyone is saying that its all MDZs fault. All but 2-3 players have underachieved this season but this is the guys 5th season in the league and he's still making the same mistakes as his rookie year. For the last 2 years his game has gone backwards if anything, its starting to look pretty obvious that he will never live up to expectations in NY. The sad thing is he will probably have a decent future elsewhere but sometimes you just have to recognise that a particular player doesnt fit. It would make no sense at all to resign him so a trade would be better for both parties.
@_Jack9am tomorrow morning!!!!!
@Copadavis The Rangers are like the Knicks.... give the biggest salaries to the star players who are playing only AVERAGE. We have mortgaged our future on aging, average players, whose best days are BEHIND them. For that, Sather should be fired. He is worse than Isaih Thomas was.
@CopadavisIf we can't trade MDZ can we just give him away to the Fishsticks? That makes us better and them worse
@gravey94 "Hoping" he is solid??!!.... but if he is solid, we should keep him, right? Isn't solid good? Or is that only "looks solid but is really a flake?" Which means we know something other clubs do not, and they are too stupid to know that behind Del Zotto's "solid play" is an incompetent D-man.... We must be pretty smart to fool the rest of the league with our "smart playing" showcased, but really crappy defenseman!!!!
@_Jack You mean who is his baby sitter? Waaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
no one Monday night except Nash
probably gave him a box of cubans
@mcolucci1@TheNYRBlogHe is trying to imitate the President.
@KreiderisTheChosenOneI understand Richards obviously isnt living up to his contract, but he is second on the team in points. Richards would be a nice secondary scoring type of player if our top guys Nash, Stepan woke up. I think we should really get rid of nash, he is an asset, maybe he just doesnt like playing in new york i always got that feeling from him. You can make a Blockbuster if you want to package Nash and Dz and get some nice pieces back. Im talking like trade him to a team that has won the cup recently for some guys that know what it takes to win. Kinda like 94 with gartner thenyrblog
"Solid" in DelZotto speak means stable, i.e., not imploding on the ice every game he plays. In MDZ's case, a sturdy defenseman is not enough. They need him to be an offensive defenseman that is competent with the D side if things. The Rangers won't fool any other teams into taking a crappy player, but I'd say there are a good number of GMs out there that would take a gamble on MDZ if he were playing competent hockey. The upside is too great for them to ignore. This organization has soured in him but if they can show him to have potential, another GM will most certainly bite. It's in their DNA.
@jaywnjHe was talking about Oscar but said Kevin since he was talking to Kevin the man who wrote this
I believe Nash has a no trade clause, but if we can do it trade him for Lucic! Straight up or throw MDZ in - make it happen!!! Ritchie isn't worth his salary; however, we're stuck with him and his albatross contract until the off season so it's a matter of making the best of a bad situation. Delzaster is worthless unless part of a package deal - send him down to AHL on a conditioning stint and hire him a shrink/babysitter.
He is second on the team in points because he avoids getting hit or hurt like the plague so he has played in a lot more games than a lot of his teammates. He is so good at staying out of the mix
@Betweentheworlds @Kevin DeLury @_Jack The moment Carcillo sticks up for a teammate or pounds the crap out of someone on the other team, he will be a Garden fan favorite. We have been missing a real grit player for ages. Dorsett was good but too undersized. He is a tertiary fighter and a secondary grit player.
@gravey94 Yes.... stable, which means they love his potential offence, as long as he does not take too many careless risks. Perhaps that might come with maturity, but the Rangers have had enough. As I watch Del Zotto, he does have moments of brilliance, but when he shows these moments he really exposes the team. It's almost as if he cannot demonstrate his offensive prowess without often making a glaring mistake. Good luck to Del Zotto.... it seems he has indeed worn out his welcome on the ice and in the hockey chat rooms here in New York....
Lucic is worth more than a package of Nash and MDZ IMHO. But why would they trade him away anyway? He can score fight and crush ppl into the boards. Just not gonna happen. Nash is one big hit away from needing help to tie his shoes for the rest of his life. MDZ is a player with no hockey sense position ally wise that can seem to learn or improve. Neither would sound appealing to Boston I'm sure.
@BRING BACK DUBI@KreiderisTheChosenOneBecause The Rangers are competitive the opposition plays Nash tight with little ice to move around. Never faced that kind of defense with CBJ. I think it is apparent to everyone except Sather that he won't change his game anytime soon. Sather keeps finding them doesn't he?
honestly just want to get rid of him i watch his highlights on youtube with columbus the guy has so much skill i just never see it. pisses me off
i got a playoff game tonight in aberdeen nj about a half hour from me in staten island im pshyced
