Despite Derek Dorsett being healthy and ready to go, Alain Vigneault has decided to insert JT Miller into the lineup tomorrow night against the Backhawks instead.
Vigneault says he decided to go with Miller, who will skate on a line with Beniot Pouliot and Derrick Brassard, because he is more of an offensive guy. Vigneault added that he wanted Dorsett to get a few more days of practice before inserting him into the lineup.
Here were the lines at practice...
...obviously, this is the move I've been hoping for, so I couldn't be happier with AV's decision. Dorsett will eventually be back in the lineup, but the Rangers need to find a way to compensate offensively for the loss of Zuccarello and he doesn't do that.
...i'm actually surprised to see Callahan will be in the lineup. If the Rangers truly are looking to move him, why would they risk injury?
On the injury front Marc Staal (back) practiced again and said if he feels the same tomorrow morning he'll be ready to play against Chicago.
In other positive injury news, Mats Zuccarello (fractured hand) skated with the goaltenders this morning, however, he exited the rink once practice began.
...i know Zuccarello merely skating with the goaltenders doesn't change his return timeline, but it's better than hearing he's not even on the ice.
Also at practice, Vigneault confirmed that Henrik Lundqvist will start Saturday night in Philadelphia, but didn't name his goaltender for Sunday against the Bruins.
...if Lundqvist is sitting out tomorrow against the Blackhawks, his ass better be between the pipes on Sunday when Boston comes to town.
Finally, Ryan Callahan said he didn't want to discuss trade rumors with the media today.
Here's video of Vignuealt's post practice presser...
Hopefully Miller now has the opportunity to show that he can transfer his dominant AHL play to the NHL successfully.If he is ready now and can earn his roster spot with good play and points production its a major plus.
Good call with Miller. Cally is in the lineup because it is the coaches job to win games and therefor put the best line up out there available to him and has nothing to do with his trade status. You know better than that Kevin :)
Percentage change that a deal is in place for Callahan and AV is being told to use Dorsett's recovery as an excuse for the Miller call-up, when the truth is that they'll both (Dorsett and Miller) will be dressing Thursday night and Callahan will be on a plane?
"Slats is looking to add Jesper Fast or Ryan Bourque in order to land a top 6 forward for Ryan Callahan. Depending on the player, Danny Kristo is also available."
Wow... if we are giving up Kristo we better be getting someone good back. I would be very interested in Callahan and Fast for Pacioretty though. If its Kristo... I would want Carter back from LA.
...I get there are rumors and guarantees that Cally will be traded but the fact is he is still a Ranger and having him in the lineup gives us the best chance to win over Dorsett. Yeah, you risk injury. But you take Cally out while not having Zucc either...I'm sorry but it's a drastic difference. Until Cally is traded, he better be out there. As has been stated numerous times before, points are points and we're in a dogfight for a playoff spot.
can't play Dorsett.. Carcillo brings more to the table as same type of player, and Miller can actually help that line of Puliot and Brassard generate opportunities around the net
@TheNYRBlog deal has to happen tonight. If not it is going to be really awkward and we are going to get killed
Or that Miller will be traded with Cally.
Would never want Jeff Carter. No doubt the guy is talented, but has shown clearly that he won't put out the full effort if he's not in the situation he wants to be in.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne kessler or Oriely would be preferable over carter
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Twitter rumor. Move on.
@metalsportsfan That's a good point.
