#NYR lines tonight vs. Kings in Vegas: Pouilot-Richards-Nash Miller-Lindberg-Hrivik Kreider-Boyle-Fast Mashinter-Powe-Asham— Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) September 27, 2013
#NYR d-pairs tonight in Vegas: Del Zotto-Bickel, J. Moore-Stralman, Falk-Allen. Goalies: Lundqvist, Biron.— Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) September 27, 2013
...huge night for the young players. Roster spots literally on the line. Assuming all eyes will be on the performance of Mashinter. lol
...and I'm not just talking about the forwards as this is a make or brake game for Allen, Bickel and Falk as the 7th & 8th defensive spots are wide open.
Meanwhile, Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United reports that the Rangers will make a minimun of eight cuts this weekend.
I know I know preseaon, preseaon----no hags, no cali no step but come on what a terrible pre-season they look like chickens with no heads most times---and com on King they are not just going hand you 10mil a year with a play like this!!!
I really like the lines tonight. I'm really hoping Lindberg, Fast, Miller, Kreider, and Mashinter have a good games tonight!
I'm rooting for Mash! Toughness is our biggest concern and if he and Stu make the cut, and our big guys start playing big that could cut the deficit big time.
Since everyone is projecting line combos I think I'll have fun and throw my 2 cents in. Actually I came up with 2 solutions. If AV wants to use a 3rd line as a checking line this would be my pick. It would give us the best 3rd line in the league that can shut down any opponents 1st lines and score goals (Drum roll please)
or solution #2 if he uses top line against top line:
(2nd and 3rd line could be switched in #2) Both choices has 1 "net crasher" on each line if AV follows his plan - gives good balance of scoring. Obviously these line projections only happen when everyone is healthy. It will be interesting to see how our rookies fair, where Miller fits in etc. . There is some good talent waiting to break in
For Defense I'd give MDZ a chance with Staal on that 2nd pairing even though I think Moore is a better prospect - let him have one last chance and if he fails, then when they trade MDZ by Feb. for some needed grit and power Moore will be a bonified top 4 guy.
obviously with variables like injuries it would change and with guys like Stu and mash and end Ashram when more toughness is needed and even Pyatt could step in - I think he's more solid than most give him credit for.
We're a good team now with some depth. Just 2 or 3 players short of Stanley cup contenders IMO which could easily happen through trade or rookie surprises.
Thankfully a game without Pyatt. What they see in him is beyond me. Big not tough, slow, hasn't scored much since 2006 and i think contrary to opinion loses most battles on the wall.
Eventually we'll see something like ...
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Brassard - Callahan
Pouliot - Richards - Zucc
Boyle - D. Moore - 12th & Asham
McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Moore
Stralman - Del Zotto + Falk
Covering for Hagelin in the meantime we'll have Miller, though that probably means different lines than what I've listed above. Not sure who, if anyone, covers for Cally the first few games.
It seems to me the big question is who our 12th forward will be. Asham has a good shot at being a serviceable 13th (which is more or less what he was last year). It comes down to Dorsett, Powe, Pyatt, and maybe Mashinter. I would guess out of those four, the most likely is Dorsett, but it's really hard to say.
Who has to clear waivers to go down? Assume we did not have issue with the first batch but it is a bit scary.
Tell you what Kevin, while I don't think he brings the same energy as Dorsett, if Mashinter plays a hard-nosed in your face game tonight, he could supplant Dorsett on the roster...especially since Dorsett's cap hit is $1.6M. Or at least he could replace Asham, though he's had a good pre-season. Weekend will be interesting for sure!
Don't want to see Allen make it. Don't get me wrong he has been way better than Falk and Bickel, but at his age I would rather him get time in Hartford than sit in the press box every night.
Otherwise hoping for a big game from Kreider to put this nonsense you guys are talking about behind. Also would like to see Lindberg show why he needs to be on the roster.
With hagelin out throw miller in on the third line and move up all left wings besides Boyle. If cally is out maybe Fast, Lindberg, or Asham replace him (not in the same spot). Also, if Richards continues to struggle for the first month, Lindberg would be primed for a call up to center the third line.
We actually have cap room for all of these guys without putting Hags on LTIR. With a 23 man roster, including Dorsett as the 12th, and including both Miller and Asham, we still have $836,667 in cap space.
By the way, this is not necessarily what I want, this is my prediction, and it's probably a fairly safe one at that. Nothing many of you don't see coming.
i'm hoping he gets cut. i wouldn't say he doesn't do anything well, but given his cap hit and other players available i'd like to see him demoted.
we might have another day before those sent down clear, no? have they cleared? what day is this?...
@gravey94 Don't tease me.
That would be great, but I doubt any of these kids get a chance right now. Asham makes a serviceable 13th. Figuring Boyle and D.Moore are on that 4th line. The 12 spot is a tough one. I'd be glad to see Pyatt cut. Powe has played well, but does he bring enough? Dorsett has a spark but is that enough (especially when he can't particularly fight). Interesting indeed. Can't wait to see how it shakes out.
plus, Allen's cap hit ....
I like those lines. Still unsure about that 12 man, but I gotta think Dorsett has the edge.
I think they let Richards struggle for more than a month, and Lindberg will do well with that time in Hartford. One way or another he'll be playing a stretch of NHL games this year.
I still think Asham may hang around as the 13th fwd. We'll see. Powe for Cally makes sense. I didn't list Bickel above, but he's a question mark too. As much as he sucks, coaches will use him to bang around.
absolutely ... and it's an opportunity really, for the kids and the team alike. we want to get them some games
