I think AV has handled preseason the right way. I could care less if we went 6-0 or 0-6 in games that don't count. The important thing is finding out what we have, especially when we have a new coaching staff. The Kings rolled out their opening night roster tonight more or less and we didn't use any of our top 3 defenseman, our #1 center, our captain and #2 right wing, our 2nd best center, Zuccarello, etc, etc. If we had lost this game 8-0 I wouldn't be concerned. If we suck next week, then I'll worry.
Has anyone heard an explanation as to why AV wants to keep 2 extra D instead of 2 extra forwards? Doesn't make sense to me. You're not gonna even use the the 7th guy unless one of the top six gets hurt, so why would you need an 8th. We have a lot more questions at forward.
The roster we should have come Sunday night:
Pouliot Stepan Nash
Kreider Brassard Zucarello
Miller Richards Boyle
Powe Moore Dorset/Asham
Think this is the lineup we end up with. Would love to switch Richards and Lindberg, but we all know thats not happening. Hrivik was the first miss I think. Powe won AV over and earned his 4th line spot, which moved Boyle up the third line (otherwise Hrivik is playing with Miller and Richards).
Only change I see is Hrivik and Miller being a possible surprise, but I think Miller or Powe gets sent down when Cally is ready hopefully sooner rather than later
you think at that Conneticut training facility with St. Louis and Quick and Richards, they just laugh at how much of a joke Richards is of an athlete?
I was just thinking about this while I tried sleeping, I hope this team gets the stuff together for Nash's sake. He has yet to play on a team for a full year that is really all-star caliber. They have the offensive skill, they just have to get those shots past the goalie. The defense, though, is a mess right now...
These teams like Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago, etc. just on replay are on a different planet than us. Hopefully over the first month we can build some chemistry.
@Neans he said because he likes to have 8 d in practice. Makes it easier to run practice.
@Neans Haven't heard a reasoning.
@FREE LINDBERG Seems like a pretty good prediction there. Not so sure about Kreider making it, though. Dorsett will definitely be on the roster even if he sits. I'm thinking one of the Lindberg, Fast, Hrivek trio could supplant Miller, too, but agree that he's the frontrunner.
It will be most interesting to see the healthy scratch slot picks.
@Hotfreak He might have made the opening night roster with his performance tonight.
@Hotfreak Hank seems to be finding his game
@FREE LINDBERG Yeah, using Richards isn't the greatest endorsement.
@KevinDeLury Del Zaster
@AnnoyingJoe I love this!
@AnnoyingJoe Nitey-nite, you crazy bastard :)
@AnnoyingJoe If the Rangers don't come back now they never will.
@AnnoyingJoe Night, Joe!
@KevinDeLury Surprised by one of them, the other not so much. The question is can you guess which one I thought would have 0 points? ;)
@Hotfreak I'm not so sure this is hockey...
@Hotfreak Yeah, despite how poor the Rangers have been playing it's great to be watching the Blueshirts again!
@FREE LINDBERG Dramatic Squirrel should not be used lightly...
@FREE LINDBERG Yeah, Joe, WTF? :)
@FREE LINDBERG Someone needs to hurry up and bust that out.
@Hotfreak Allen should get 25 min per game in HFD
@Hotfreak His salary might keep him off the roster ($1.775M per).
That might make more sense later in the year when we're closer to Hartford but we're much more likely to need that extra forward than 2 extra D while we're out west to start the year.
@KevinDeLury @FREE LINDBERG its actually Nash. I knew he wasn't going to give 100 percent in preseason (avoid injury), but I thought Richards would put up some points in garbage preseason so fans wouldnt be all over him at the beginning of the regular season... and he would get 5 games before everyone jumped on him.
But he couldnt even score against scrubs that aren't even NHL level.
