#NYR Darroll Powe, Stu Bickel, Brandon Mashinter clear waivers, assigned to AHL— Steve Zipay (@stevezipay) September 30, 2013
Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that only $142,000 of Darroll Powe's $1.067 million per year salary will count against the Rangers cap while he's in the AHL.
...and that sound you hear is the collective sigh of relief from Rangers fans that Mashinter wasn't claimed. Ok, maybe that was just me, but it was still loud.
I figured they would all clear - I don't know if it's an "unwritten rule" to not claim other team's young players in these situations but these are your prospects that, because of the protocol have to clear waivers in order to develop in the farm system. Other GMs wouldn't want us to snatch up their youngsters. Makes sense? Or am I just being an idealist
Sure is a collective sigh of relief. Was thinking that somehow the Flyers were going to figure out a way to get Bickel or Mashinter. Still need some size and toughness on the home club as Their AHL team is plenty tough already
Bickel is to hockey what Michael Jordan was to baseball, except Jordan looked athletic doing it. Hopefully that's the last we see of him in a Rangers jersey. Seems like a nice guy, just can't play hockey.
Looks like the Whaler Pack is pretty stacked this year. It might be worth keeping tabs on them now and again...
I heard that Mashinter was really close to being claimed by Sean Avery as a boy toy to make Kevin jealous.
@TheNYRBlog wasn't just you, I'm happy too!
