Dan Rosen at NHL.com reports that Rick Nash is looking forward to playing under new head coach Alain Vigneault...
"Yeah, it's exciting," Nash said. "I played against him quite a bit, playing in the West [for the Columbus Blue Jackets]. He's got an up-tempo style, but his teams are always sound defensively too. So it's been fun so far."
Here's Ryan Callahan on the sniper...
"With his size and his ability it's scary what he can do," Callahan said. "Expectations are what they always are for him."
Nash had 21g, 21a in 44 games last season.
...welp, Nash might be excited about the new style, but it hasn't showed in his play so far this preseason as he's been held pointless in two games.
...maybe someone should tell him it's the preseason not the postseason and then he'll start scoring again. I kid Rick, I kid.
...in all seriousness, despite his lack of offense this preseason, AV's new system should allow Nash the freedom he needs to make plays on offense and get himself back into the upper echelon of goal scorers in the NHL.
...i also like hearing Arniel say they're going to get Nash's big body in front of the net on the power play. For a big man, he's got great hands and should have a ton of garbage goals in that role.
One thing Torts had no idea about was the power play. Every other team in the league has their sniper in position to score on the power play and it never seemed like Nash was. Sit him in front of the net or at the top of the circle for one timers... Either way it can't get worse than Torts's power play "system"
Nash has the ability to not only score but intimidate - we did not see it much last year but when he flashed that side of him I could see the fear in the enemy, especially the goalies - it's not size or skill but his persona; his "energy" - if this new coach can see this and develop that killer instinct we are going to go from "not-so-Nashty" to "Monster Nash" this year!!!
also have to remember it is preseason, and for a player like nash who isnt fighting for a spot, you have to wonder if he has it in the back of his head to play hard but stay healthy bc no one wants to get hurt during pre season. He probably feels who cares what the media or anyone thinks i can or cant do bc of these pre season games, ill make sure i dont get hurt then come out strong when it counts...who knows , but i dont think we have to worry about nash
@TheNYRBlog Nash has been playing?
wish he would show it... although can you blame him he is stuck on a line with Rcihards and even Kreider. Both have no business on the top 3. We need Stepan up there with him, and in my opinion Hagelin...
@FREE LINDBERG But I thought Richards was new and improved? ;)
@FREE LINDBERG @KevinDeLury Oh don't get me started - I have almost put behind the trauma of the non-buyout while still watching this team struggle to sign their future star, and handcuffed in trying to land a power forward, intimidater etc. Even at his prime Richey is not worth it in the cap era. Totally ridiculous!
