After this morning's on ice workouts, Henrik Lundqvist stated that he is still having conversations with the Rangers about an extension, however, there's nothing new to report.
Lundqvist added that if a deal isn't done before the season, they will be put on hold if it becomes even a slight distraction once the year starts.
...quick someone get the e-mail addresses of every Rangers beat writer so we can advise them not to overwhelm Lundqvist with contract questions this season.
...this might be even more scary than the Stepan negotiations. I'm still very confident a deal with Stepan gets done. Lundqvist? I'm not so sure.
...i've been saying it all offseason, the Rangers better get off to a quick start or the questions will begin to rain down on Lundqvist about contract talks and once they do, I think he's just made it very clear that all negotiations will cease at that point. Which wouldn't be a good situation for the Rangers.
...i'm sure Lundqvist wants nothing more than to finish his career with the Rangers, but I'm not 100% convinced he'd be willing to sign on the dotted line if he doesn't feel he can win a Stanley Cup in Manhattan. A step back for the Rangers this season, and I'm absolutely convinced that Lundqvist will be looking for better opportunities next summer.
This probably is going nowhere for a while. Any talks now are not serious as at this stage the team would be trying to get him on the cheap. Henry may wish to stay in NY but he will see what direction the team is going and the GM staff also will see how we do this season up to the trade deadline as well to determine their needs going forward before any serious negotiations begin. In an ideal world we have a strong year and Lunqvist signs. Just for some general info last season I believe he was third in GAA for goalies with 30 or more games and 1st with goalies who played in 40 + and 4th in save percentage for goalies with over 30 games (2nd amongst those with 40+ games) and he was at least as impressive the prior year coming in 2nd and tied for 1st respectively, however there was only 0.1% difference in save percentage over the top 8 or 9 goalies and a very tight margin in goals against as well amongst the 10 top goalies meaning that if push came to shove we could probably get someone just a notch under Lunqvist for a good deal less money if need be and use the cap space to fill other needs. We look good coming i9nto this year but there are still a few holes to fill before I would feel that we are cup ready but such variables as rookies performances and trades could tilt things in our favor. It's going to be damn interesting this season....
See the problem here is if the Rangers start off slow, which is very possible considering a new coach and systems and the long road trip. If it gets to the trade deadline and we are behind the eight ball or under .500 god forbid. The Rangers may have to trade him if he wont do an extension.
If Hank walks for nothing key the rebuild period.
If the Rangers don't get deep into the playoffs, Hank will be holding contract talks in Pittsburgh no matter what dopey Bylsma says about his goalies.
@FREE LINDBERG anywhere but Pittsburg please....
@FREE LINDBERG Yep.
@shishya100 it wont be Bylsma because if they dont get to or win the cup he is gone
