Here's Yogan on being named captain...
...first let me start this by saying...damn it's good to be blogging about some actual hockey again.
...i'm not going to pretend I learned a whole lot about the Rangers prospects by watching that highlight package because I didn't. However, it was nice to see a lot of the bigger name guys get on the score sheet.
...seemed like Kristo was all over the ice as he showed good speed and ended up with eight shots on goal to go with his assist.
...i know St. Croix is supposed to be a scorer, but that was a sweet behind the back feed on the Yogan goal.
...speaking of Yogan, he's a guy not too many Rangers fans are talking about. If he can commit himself to working hard this season, he has the skills to turn some heads in the organization and maybe get himself in contention to be an injury call-up.
...two power play goals? AV already having a positive effect!
...didn't know who the hell Leroux was before the game, but now I do after he dropped a Hurricanes player with a straight left to the chin. Looking at the Rangers likely roster this season, they're going to need that kind of toughness.
...i know it's just his first game in a Rangers uniform but Skapski didn't exactly look like the Rangers goalie of the future.
Skapski has some basic mechanics that he has to fix. Hes a true butterfly goalie and you can see that. However, when he is down in his butterfly his glove hand is almost always tucked below and behind his pad... He could have possibly gotten away with this in his previous leagues. Wont happen in the AHL/NHL. Thats a bad habit hes going to have to correct fast.
Anybody hear anything on how defense played or if anybody stood out? I don't know why they shot the highlights (our best choice, thanks MSG) from the corner for most of the time, i guess par for the course. Anyway tough to get read on the defense or breakout, team play etc..
St. Croix has always gathered more assists than goals... the goals are just a bit extra. He's a playmaker by trade but he does have a solid shot. I did like Duclair's game, good with the puck and very, very quick. Also, it hurt seeing Tolchinsky score one of the goals for Carolina when we coulda had him.
I did like kristo's game. I forgot he's a righty, and that's something we need on the wing. like Kevin said its super encouraging to see the big guys get on the board. hopefully malcom has some more luck than skapski had. I liked their hustle but as was brought out its so hard to tell from 12 minutes of play!
I love how I saw live tweets of shots on goal, penalties, and goals but MSG couldn't broadcast the game!
Waste of time trying to make grand-scale observations from one highlight package from a crappy angle of apre-season prospect game. That being said, get used to those kind of passes from St. Croix. That wasn't a fluke. He does that at least once every game. Kristo's speed and overall offensive prowess is obvious.
@ChettiiI'm sure the Rangers will have Allaire work with him.
@JoshKaye That was rough watching Tolchinsky bury one.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG I know. They're at the tournament snapping pics and obviously taking video. Why not at the very least live stream the game? Awful.
@Herman_NYRBlog Yeah, that's a difficult video to follow along with. Might have been better to observe if it was, you know, on television.
@KevinDeLury @GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Also look at what the other teams are offering...Buffalo is the only other team with a highlight package and they just did goals. Yes, streaming would have been great but NYR is offering more than anybody else (except MAYBE Buffalo). Making the best out of a tough situation
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Nephews who play in Traverse City every year. They are attending Sunday's game.
do you work for MSG? JUST BE A FUN GUY AND PILE ON WITH THE REST OF US!!! but that is a great piece of insight about the wifi at the arena. I didn't know that. nice job!
