Waivers rangers: Michael Haley, Dany Syvret, Aaron Johnson, Cam Talbot.— Renaud Lavoie (@LavoieRenaud) September 26, 2013
The Rangers had to waive these players before they were able to be assigned to Hartford.
...man, Haley was a guy I thought could make the Rangers roster, so I'd hate to lose him to another team. Has toughness Blueshirts need.
...Talbot also. The Rangers are already thin in organizational goaltending, so if he's claimed it would be a huge blow.
With the cap space limitations the Rangers may have to base who goes down on their cap hit.
Fwds roster fight: Kreider 1.325M, Miller 1.244M, Fast 900K, Lindberg 760K, Hrivik 685K.
7th D - Allen 1.775M, Falk 975K, Bickel 750K,
Expendable: Boyle 1.7M, Dorsett 1.633M, Pyatt 1.55M, Powe 1.066M, Asham 1M
For the forwards fighting for a spot, Kreider is the only one who was on the roster last season so his 1.325M would go away if he's sent down. Unless the Rangers drop some of the expendables like Boyle and Pyatt, don't see how both Miller and Kreider can remain on the roster once Hags and Cally come back. Sather can't do basic arithmetic, must be the Canadian education system they have in Banff.
I thought I remember seeing somewhere like a week ago that either Talbot didn't have to go through waivers, or he couldn't get claimed by another team, for some reason. I guess not. Hopefully nobody claims him...
At first I was a little surprised that the CBA requires a player to go through waivers to get from Training Camp to the AHL, kind of goes against the whole "building from within" mantra if you have to risk losing a player if you want to give him a shot at cracking the roster.
But then I looked at the salary difference between what a guy like Talbot has been making playing in the AHL vs the NHL, and you could see why the players would want the option of going elsewhere. From 2010-2012 Talbot had an NHL salary of $640 but was only making $67k per season. This year is a little better, NHL Salary of $550k, AHL Salary of $125k. Next year, however, is NHL and AHL salary are the same, at $575k, increasing the chances he may take over the back-up spot.
Waive Pyatt, not Healy. Other than Talbot sticking with the Rangers, how else could they have sent him down? Bad if both lost.
@TheNYRBlog talbot is huge in Olympic year. Have to keep him on board
@FREE LINDBERG Ugh, can't seem to shake Pyatt loose. Suspect he is there to make Richards feel fast. I do like the first line though. That should be really interesting to watch!
