JT MIller: 2g, 1a, +2
Chris Kreider: 1g
Dylan McIlrath: Game winning goal (1st as a pro)
Danny Kristo: 2a
BRANDON MASHINTER: 1a, +2
... the Rangers better recall Miller immediately!!!! Just messing with you guys. Although, if the Rangers offense remains as dormant as it's been, he'll be back in a Blueshirt sooner rather than later.
...speaking of calling players up, the worst thing the Rangers could do with Kreider is recall him if he has a hot start to the season. The kid still has a lot to learn about the pro game and I'd love for the Rangers to keep him in Hartford no matter what until January and at that point assess where he's at.
...first a fight on opening night and now his first professional goal? All down hill from here for McIlrath. I kid, I kid. Looks like Mr. Beukeboom is having a positive effect on the kid. At least initially.
...man, I'm really hoping Kristo isn't nothing more than a very good AHL player.
...two points in two games to start the season for Mashinter, who, after eventually being recalled, will likely be in Hart Trophy contention by the end of the season.
Here's some post game reaction...
While I'm not going to get carried away and think all our prospects are going to be 30 goal scorers in the NHL, I am beyond excited to see the depth the Rangers have now in the system (except goalie of course). Looking at Chicago's model, they have a core of players and then add the role and secondary scoring players through drafts and key trades/signings. Take a core of Nash, Stepan, Cally, Hags, Staal, Mac Truck, Girardi, and you start adding young guys like Kreider, Miller, Fast, Lindberg, Kristo, McIlrath, etc. for the older guys it can only lead to good things!
BTW Kevin, when is your handle changing to FREE MASHINTER?
I really hope McIlrath improves and sticks in the NHL. Kid seems like a really good guy with a good head on his shoulders.
Only one game so we don't want to get carried away, but the depth our prospect pool was very pronounced. Kreider and Miller were all over the place while Kristo made things happen in the offensive zone., McIlrath made some mistakes, but also some very good plays. Last year a big problem for the Rangers was finding someone to call up who could make a difference. This season the "problem" is going to be picking one or two from a wealth of options.
@TheNYRBlog best organizational move of the summer was hands down changing the name back to the Hartford Wolf Pack
