In a wild scene at the end of the Rangers 3-2 victory over the Islanders last night, we witnessed the normally stoic Brad Richards lose his cool on Cal Clutterbuck...
Richards explains what happened here...
"I saw someone grab Hags. I got punched in the head, I think. You just react to those situations. At the end of the game, with .07 seconds left, you had to put money on something stupid like that happening because that's the way it is with the Rangers and Islanders. Just so happens I was in the middle of it."
...i joked around last night that Clutterbuck likely said something to Richards about Olivia Munn, but man the Rangers alternate captain was fired up.
...i loved that he was coming to the defense of Hagelin, which is something that has happened too far and few in between with this team. Hopefully it's a sign of this team finally coming together. Slowly getting there folks.
What I found hilarious is Dorsett is on the ice and that was HIS MAIN JOB to make sure nothing happens and we have Richards doing it. Andy Mcdonald is holding Dorsett like he is a rag doll!!!..
I actually like Dorsett but man the one time you can make NYR nation love you, you are being held like a baby getting his midnight feeding and Richards is winning our love again.
Our main prospects on the Pack are starting to meet expectations and post points.Hope they continue consistently and can be brought up later.
Lindberg with the game winner tonight, and Kristo with another goal (7th) and an assist... he has 12 points in 10 games
I wouldn't leave until the game was over...I was glad bc I couldn't believe my eyes when Richards started to fight..
The last few games they've been coming together more in defense of one another. maybe just a small step in the right direction. I love when a guy like Richey, and Zucc for that matter gets fired up like that - it lights up the rest of the team. He's been good this year, scoring and buzzing around and all but so far the biggest compliment for me was how he came back last night. He had a bad night against the Habs - dead man skating and he came back with a nice turnaround performance on the island. That shows me a lot about his character this season, which I had not seen in Richey in blue and is shutting up naysayers like myself
What was interesting last night and moving forward is how teams with tough guys are going to play us. Are they going to go the route of the Red Wings and put the tough guys in the press box, or use their toughness to try and push the Rangers around? Since we left Mashinter out, the Islanders left Boulton out. Against the Flyers, they didn't dress Rosehill against us. Maybe AV realizes that isn't the type of team we have...why try and go that route (AS PAINFUL AS THAT IS) and lose playing a style others play better.
Personally, when we had Bickel, Rupp, Prust, and for a short time Scott.....I thought it was the best version of the Rangers we have had in a long time. We played a mean game, and teams did not want to play against us. But the NHL is changing....Lucic is a rarity...a guy who can run over you, through you or go around you, and what are you going to do about it?? Very few players like him in the NHL and if you have one, do anything you can to hold onto them.
Grew up playing the game . That's the stuff that makes a team become a family . The more you trust and Respect each other . The stronger that team becomes .
I know a bit off topic... but the Rangers powerplay this year compared to last year is fantastic, for the most part puck possesion and passing has been phenomenal...i for one am happy Sullivan is gone.
I am sitting here wishing that Richards contract had 2 or 3 less years on it... The cap hit is not what I am worried about... With his current revival (and Nash's current situation, and the cap going up).... it becomes a real possibility that the Rangers could avoid buying him out... But then you look at the 7 years left on his contract (after this one) and it is just impossible. I cant think of a possible way the Rangers could compete with a 40 year old taking up 6.667 of cap hit.... If it was for 4-5 more years I wouldn't mind it, but the length of that contract is a killer... its too bad because I am starting to buy that he has a big leadership role and players look up to him... especially Kreider who just raves about his leadership
I know Hagelin played pretty feisty last night, but I felt like the Islanders were taking any chance they could get to throw extra shots at him. Richards did exactly what he should have done as a leader with this team -protecting a guy in his first game back following a long injury.
I thought i was dreaming when i saw it D:
Waited whole day for Kevin to post this ! MAN I'm so pumped up right now
i said it a dozen times yesterday, these guys are starting to learn and understand what it means to be a leader when you don't have John Tortorella screaming at you between periods. You have to start doing things yourself under AV, as a team, as a unit. I think mentally, guys are starting to understand what AV tolerates. Torts brainwashed them, same reason that it took Kreider a little while but he seems to be comfortable now.
Side note, is it just me, or does this team seem to have more balls when Nash isn't in the line-up? They rarely stuck up for Gabby, they don't seem to stick up for Nash, but they stick up for everyone else. Divas, maybe? Maybe I'm reaching...
i had to watch that video 3 times last night because I could not believe it was richards. Kept thinking it had to be someone else! that was awesome!
This team is coming together fast. Dorsett killed Rinaldo for his attemted elbow on McD, and three other players were about to do it before he obliged. Dorsett attacked GIonta for his headshot on McD. Richards attacks Clutterbuck for messing with Hagelin. I love it, this team is showing life. You'll see, this is a great team.
@Ciffy02 Dorsett was grabbed immediately by a ref/linesman and escorted off the ice. What are you talking about? Not to mention slapped with a ridiculous 10 minute misconduct for being Derek Dorsett
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane our prospects are looking good, hrvik, lindberg, and kristo all score; connor allen the 2nd star...love it
@LanceGold1 Wonder what happens when we play Ottawa - last year Chris Neil was a one man wrecking crew in our meetings
@GregIverson Too early to get excided about a power play. I'd wait till a middle of the season to pass judgment on the power play.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I totally agree wit you. I never approved of the signing but I'm beginning to change my mind about Richards. What he did at the end of the game against the Islanders really impressed me.
CapGeek (its amazing all the crap you can do on this website) has a calculator for the penalty if a player defects or retires in the middle of a contract for more than 7 years. Sather and Co will be spending a lot of time playing with this next spring.
@NYRangers212 Unlike some fans who don't seem to realize how good a player Hagelin is, the Ranger's opponents do.They are simply fighting back against a player that is knocking them on their heels every time he plays against them.Good for Richards sticking up for Hags.We can look forward to a lot more W's with Hags back in the lineup.
@NYRangers212 thats what you are supposed to do on a player that is just coming back.... the Rangers never do it... I guess they are too nice :(
@johnnyb3910 Yes you are reaching.
@johnnyb3910 100% agree with ur 1st paragraph. unsure about your 2nd one. i suppose it is possible?
@PenaltySh0t Starting to get excited!!!!
I am not ripping Dorsett, I actually just thought it was ironic the one reason he was out there was to make sure nothing occured. It was hilariuos watching him try to get away from Mcdonald and the linesman.
I just mean that was a huge spot for him, and he would have won over a ton of fans if he got away from them.
Watch again....he was at the bottom of the screen trying to get where Richards was...after it calmed down he was escorted off...so maybe you should look again.
You don't get 10 minutes for skating off the ice hand in hand with a linesmen.
@GregIverson Cam Neely wasn't nearly is though as Lucic but he was a better player.
if he has a great season could Sather trick some fool into taking him for picks? I know it's a long shot but it's not impossible. I bet GMs are taking notice of his turn around.
@JoeNYR I got your back Joe.
@Ciffy02 You do when your name is Derek Dorsett. Welcome to Dinsey On Ice, I mean the new NHL
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG If he deosnt play out his full contract and retires before the 2020 season, the penalty to the Rangers is the same regardless of what team he's on when he retires. The only savings would be the salary they wouldn't pay for the years hes not here, and considering his contract was front loaded, it wouldn't be a ton.
Im sure there's a rule preventing this, but I wonder if Sather can just let him play until he's 36 or 37, then fake an injury and throw him on LTIR?
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG no way... Its not the quality of player its the length of that contract... why trade for him when you can get him if he is bought out for cheaper and less years...
Do you think teams actually use it? I mean it seems like it has it all in check.
Capgeek I mean not the hot babes....I know that all use the hotbabes one!!!
