The San Jose Sharks throttled the New York Rangers tonight by a score of 9-2 behind four goals from Tomas Hertl. If for whatever reason you want to view a box score of this butt-whooping, click here.
Hard to believe the Rangers actually led in this game...
Paging Brendan Shanaban.... only to add insult to injury, Nash got his bell rung thanks to a Brad Stuart high elbow that caught Nash on the chin prior to Richards making it 1-0. Given this is concussion number 2 in eight months, expect him to miss some time.
I know its only the third game with a new coach in a new system, but the effort the Rangers gave in the second period should only happen in games played in September, compared to San Jose who looked like a team playing in mid April with a playoff spot on the line. Were some of those goals a little fluky?Yes, but giving up 4 goals in 4:16 shouldn't happen, period.
Given the way the Rangers were playing in the second period, I thought Vigneault should've called timeout after San Jose made it 3-1 to settle his team down. You could sense that third goal was an inevitability.
Liked Boyle sticking up for Nash, only problem was that it was 2 periods and 6 goals against too late.
That third period.... LOLOLOL.

My opinion. 75% of the players in the NHL can do that on a breakaway. They are just that talented....The point is not that he is a skilled a player and he should pay a price for being skilled. The point is in hockey, be it NHL, minors, roller, Dek, etc if you do that you are showing up the team, the players and most importanty, the goalie. In hockey (and most sports) there is a code. There always has been and for as long as men play hockey, there always will be. You hit the goalie, you bump him, give him a snow shower, shoot him w you stick, etc you are most likely going to pay a price. You always protect your goalie. Its just like standing at home plate after a home run. You are going to get plunked next time up. I am in no way bashing the player, the play or the goal. I am bashing the NYR for having no heart. I am talking from the NYR fan (ME) POV, not the POV of the NHL or the SJS...Nothing was done after Nash got elbowed and ha to leave. A few slashes in the 3rd.
I like what the Sharks did this year, dump some slow veterans and their contracts, insert some young talented rookies ,get a big fast team. Nice concept...
AV is really going to fire them up now......right? Bad that no one retaliated on Nash. That kid showed up Biron and nothing was done about that. Rangers were super soft in their own end. They do not respect themselves. They don't respect each other. How do you think other teams will play them? What do you think is going through Henrik's mind right about now? AV is really going to fire them up now....right?
Didn't see the 3rd but if sheer embarrassment doesn't wake them up.. After a good effort in LA to come out with 0 battle. 0 effort. That was ugly. Time to regroup (without Nash). Unbelievable!
I'm not going to disagree that this team lacks "grit" and "toughness" and balls, but I have to say that some of this falls on the league and the refs. There were no good replays in the feed last night, but if what Boyle did to Stuart in the 3rd warrants a Roughing and an Unsportsman Like Conduct call, and our PK is going to be this bad, can you really blame some of these guys for not wanting to go out and take a penalty try to "get even"??
The truth is we don't need an enforcer, they're being eliminated from the game. Nowadays the way to respond isn't to go after Stuart. Someone should have absolutely destroyed Tomas Hertl after his little Marek Malik goal. Thats how you send a message. Eye for an eye. But our guys did nothing.
"Given the way the Rangers were playing in the second period, I thought Vigneault should've called timeout after San Jose made it 3-1 to settle his team down. You could sense that third goal was an inevitability."
I was thinking the same thing, and I have to believe that Torts would have made a bold move after being down 4-1 or 5-1 to never allow it to get that out of hand. I guess that could be blind hindsight speaking, but , Vignault lacks the emotion behind the bench that Torts had, and that is pretty clear. Weather or not that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen....just hoping Nash doesn't miss too much time, hopefully just sit him for the road-trip and he can be ready for the home opener
A joke. hank gave up 4 goals in 2 of 3 games. I dont think hes given up 8 goals in one month in his career (maybe when gaborik potted 5 is the exception) absolute joke. What the hell did I watch. turned it off after 4-1
@TheNYRBlog anymore word on Nash's condition
@TheNYRBlog Last night was the first time I was happy I was at work rather than watching the game.
@TheNYRBlog any and I mean any juice creates from Monday is totally gone and then some!
@TheNYRBlog by the time this team gets back to the garden, they will have dug a hole deeper than the one they used to bury Billy Batts
Let's get real -- Hollywood Hank is too busy thinking about his "contract negotiations" to be involved with stopping a puck.
Meanwhile in Columbus.... Gaborik, Dubinsky and Anisimov have been consistently good.
Another concussion for Nash, so that leaves us with Richards as the scoring threat - God help us all!!
Stop blaming the new system. These guys have been playing hockey their whole life. This team is just bad. Everyone on this site is blind and just fleeces everything. We had our chance to a cup and blew it. Our chance is gone now and who knows when we will be good again. Henrik even knows this, this is why he is not going to resign. We are in rebuild again. Wake up guys.
@TheNYRBlog is it safe to take shots of whiskey with my breakfast to cope with the pain of last nights game?
@TheNYRBlog went to sleep after the 1st and actually had sum confidence in em going into 2nd on the power play. Stupid me.
Bad management, bad ownership = bad team. We are shown up by a team from San Jose - SAN JOSE!! The Sharks have been consistent for a while now, while our cast of characters is like a bad offshoot of the Ice Capades!
Anyone else starting to believe that the only thing that made Henrik good were those larger pads??
@TheNYRBlog Yeah, it's best not to read; just... just pretend it didn't happen, guys.
It's gut check time. It's one thing to be out of shape, have no legs, get beat, etc. but the team gave up tonight. Nash gets taken out and there's no response. Some kid shows up the goalie and there's no response. I'm not saying you need to go out and start a fight (although i wouldn't mind), but you need to have some pride and go out and play hard, throw a body check, get some energy going. SOMETHING. I'm not sure if AV or Cally said anything on the bench or in between periods, but the team should be absolutely embarrassed by the way they played and by the way they handled themselves.
Yeah the score would make you think "blow-out" , but you know-the final score isn't always an accurate measure of the level of play. This one should have been 15-1
@DaveFL Well said. They started this process about two years ago.....building from "the Net out" all to compete with LA who has the same philosophy. They finally got Joe Thorton to create a more two-way game. A lot of people out there believe they are now poised to pass Sutter's team this year....stay tune!
I wonder (and I have no evidence to back me up!) if The Canucks are trying to go in the same direction with Torts at the helm.
@EHBIGAPPLE What's going through Henrik's mind? How about - "A million to buy the yacht, $5 million for summer house in Sweden, $750k for new clothes every style seaon, $1.5 for the custom Lambo, hey I wonder if John McEnroe is available next weekend to play tennis?" That is the only thing going through his mind right now and probably the rest of the season.
@JoeNYR At least someone is reacting to the hit.
@tsantoruvo Nothing yet.
@BigBrian1226 Let's just play all the players on the Wolf Pack for one game and see what happens - can it be worse than last night?
@jslnyr1102 LOL! Got a post on that ripping the team at 10am.
@RUMAN79 No doubt. BTW, what does last night's loss say about the Kings?
@kingmessier Sadly, it looks that way right now.
@tonygraz10 Take two.
@cb1 Like I said in the earlier thread, if Callahan doesn't rip this team a new asshole on the locker room after this loss, he has no business wearing the "C".
Leading by example is one thing, but comes a time when you have to verbally lead as well. Get pissed off, show some heart & balls, show you care... get PISSED OFF
@FREE MASHINTER Thank you...need an enforcer
@DPSnotty @cb1 I don't get why are you mad at kid Hertl? He played very well and burned Biron with that 4th goal. Goal was sick, i have to admit. The problem is in our team and not some kid who is playing the best he can. Biron should be embarassed the most. He scored that goal because Rangers and Biron let him. If Kreider scored that kind of goal you all would be gloating... But i agree in one thing, someone should have responded to that Nash hit. Stuart had to pay. Unbeliavable that no one showed some heart!
@kingmessier @TruBluEsp @JoeNYR @FREE MASHINTER 100% agree ... Dubi may not have been a great fighter and who cares if he would have lost the fight but it's about the message being sent. There will be consequences if you target our stars or skill players. Prust would have had Stuart's head on his stick if he was still on the team. Rupp too for that matter.
@TheKing you know what i meant... You could insert any name instead of Kreider.
Honestly boron, if he was a good goaltender and not awful, poke checks that puck and it never happens. But he was on a different planet last night, and not in a good way/
