According to Adrian Dater at the Denver Post, Rangers scouts were in attendance at the Avalanche/Sabres game in Buffalo last night.
...Stepan for O'Reilly (3g, 3a)? lol
...despite the need for some kind of shake-up, I'm not so sure it's at the trade level just yet. I'd first rather see AV send a message by sitting Girardi. If that doesn't work then you start replacing unproductive players (Zucc, Pouliot, Pyatt & Brassard) with youngsters such as Kreider, Kristo, Lindberg and Mashinter. And then finally, if all else fails, a trade would need to be made. And I don't mean any trade. I need to see an Avery-like trade that shakes up the locker room and on ice demeanor. Since the Rangers scouts were at the Sabres game, the one guy on my mind is Steve Ott.
H/T to reader Brad C.
Meanwhile, Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that the Rangers are looking for a top-six forward and the club is trying to deal Chris Kreider.
...as always, take Garrioch's rumors with a grain of salt, but this wouldn't shock me at all. When Darroll Powe gets called-up over Kreider you know he's fallen out of favor with the organization.
...having said that, I think it would be a huge mistake moving him right now. The kid has unlimited potential and should be given additional time in Hartford to develop his game. Nothing worse than giving up on that kind of talent and seeing him flourish somewhere else.
...the decision to make a trade for a top six forward will likely be connected to the health of Nash.
Garrioch adds that the Rangers could go after Thomas Vanek next off-season if they buyout Brad Richards.
Carl Hagelin is a fast skater with no playmaking ability, no vision, the only thing he brings to the table is speed, which he uses to chase down pucks, nothing physical-he doesnt hit at all,... I see delusional Ranger fans are at it again making statements like Hagelin "can turn the team around"....Im a realistic Rangers fan(not pessemistic)
Any chance the Av's really love their hot start are looking for a veteran center with post season experience , a ring & a Conn Smythe? I'd take Stasny's inflated cap hit (6.6) for the rest of this year & hope he finds his forum and not have to worry about Richards potentially getting hurt and being on the hook for the rest of his deal. Unlikely scenario but one can dream.
Tough call about Krieder. He basically hasn't shown much- some shining moments amidst a swamp of mediocrity and confusion. He has been playing well lately apparently, maybe he has turned the corner. So a trade for a regular reliable goal scorer who is responsible defensively would help this team now, but could maybe be a long term loss. Rangers should at least wait until a huge difference maker -Carl Hagelin- is back for a few games before they rush to judgement- its still very early in the season. Hags is one of the few who can turn a team completely around.
Powe was called up over Kreider because they were looking to fill a 4th line spot after bumping Pyatt up and needed a penalty killer after Cally went out again...
That being said, if we can trade Kreider for a top 6 forward that actually produces, I say we do it.
Would love to see O'Reilly come to the Rangers, but Colorado can't trade him until Feb. (one yr. from his signing). I wonder if Colo. is still bitter with him regarding his holdout last yr. and I remember Colo. has always had their eye on DelZotto, who is the puck moving D-Man they lack. Kreider and Del Zotto would work for me, but.... can't happen til Feb. and the Rangers must clear cap space.
Trade Dorsett, Pyatt; send pulliot, powe, and Zuc down to Hartford for mash, Kreids. Don't forget what Kreids did coming off BC team to score 5 playoff goals & OT winner last year. We lost our balls when we did not sign Prust. Bad move to let him go.
Sorry but im gonna get killed for even bringing it up this way but I say you trade hank mdz and kreider and maybe one more player or picks for miller vanek and myers. Work it out in your head
I HATE the Penguins but wanna know why they win every year? They score 3/4 goals a game and play responsible defense. You can play all the defense you want but without scoring you won;t win. Not in the modern NHL.
You forget he got concussed? Also if you want to make that argument, what has ANY offensive player done in the playoffs in the last few years? You don't win the cup scoring 1 or 2 goals per game.
You don't pass by an opportunity to get a star player like that. You need some sort of star payers to win the cup these days. that's what was lacking in 2011-12. That big scoring threat.
the worse was not giving the same team that went to eastern conference another yr.. Trading Dubinksy and letting Prust walk...
This is stupid. He is just a kid and he WILL be a beast. The Rangers are really pissing me off lately. FIRE ALL MANAGEMENT.
I was at the Wolf Pack-Pirates game last night and sat behind the bench. They seem pretty loose being 5-0-0-1. Kreider didn't seem like a head case at all and was doing crazy crunches in the hallway after the game. Lindberg didn't impress, Kristo did. Kristo is probably the first call-up and I'd say Haley might be close behind. Bickel and D-Mac didn't seem too impressive but they are like sharks parting the waters- the Pack is a scary team to play against and lead the A in PM's. Haley had a doozy with a much bigger guy thirty seconds into a game filled with breast cancer survivors. He left for repairs but played solid. Asham played very well and gave my son his stick. Class dude who we often forget got us past the Caps last year in a Game 7.
AV coached Pyatt back in Vancouver. Personally would rather have seen Fast in that spot or bring up Lindberg
Well then i don;t get why Kreider isnt getting top 6 minutes with the Rangers and Pyatt is. Ridiculous.
Vanek salary will destroy us and with Hank, G and Cally can't afford to add without subtracting. Landeskog, MacKinnon and Duchene are untouchables. O'Reilly and Parenteau are not game changers let alone to give up on Kreider for
Buffalo - Vanek, Myers Avs - Landeskog, MacKinnon, O'Reilly, Duchene, Parenteau. All players of value.
If a scout was at this game, they are probably looking at Statsny and Vanek.... although I do not know how we can take their contracts on in our current cap situation...
Well, if they do trade Kreider he would be another Rangers pick that was hyped up and that was eventually traded.
This roster has developed a culture of losing. As mentioned, all the Columbus players plus the home growns who have won nothing. Add D. Moore, Pouliot?? These guys haven't won a thing in their careers. Richards is the only guy with a winning history and that was 10 years ago! They should have brought in a Frolik or Bickell, for no other reason than they have been on a winner. Someone..anyone...who has won something recently! Noone on this team knows how to win.
NOBODY on either of those 2 teams can add value to the Rangers unless the Avs give us their captain. Vanek would be a name that comes to mind but with his salary u cant justify trading Kreider and DZ for him. The team needs to just play through this rough time until Hag and Cally return. Also putting Pyatt on waivers and bringing up a energy guy in the meantime would be ideal. hmm wonder how many fans now wish Torts was still coach?
Of course Kreider would flourish elsewhere. He needs proper development. Keep him in Hartford all season then bring him up for training camp.
I would be open to trading Kreider if we were able to get back an equivalent blue chip prospect for him or a 1-3 1st round draft pick, maybe. But I still like Kreider's upside and the kid always works hard going back to college. He's excelled everywhere he's played. NYR need to give him time or get something of high value back for him.
We have essentially become the blue jackets. Almost time to hit that panic button. The unraveling of this organization over the past year is extremely depressing.
@Beckfan5 had almost forgotten about Grachev...
@msilvers1979 I would much rather see the Rangers do that than trade him for sure.
@ATCRyan Absolutely baffling that Sather thought trading for half Columbus' roster would somehow make the Rangers a better team. Not to mention adding a former coach.
@shoot_the_goalie @FREE MASHINTER @ATCRyan I don't like the Gabby trade now that we have AV as the coach. If they knew they were replacing Torts with AV I doubt they make that trade. Regarding Nash - I don't think he had concussion issues with CBJ. I am very worried that this is going to be the story for the rest of his career. Hopefully he can overcome but once concussion prone it is very hard to come back. Oh yea - back tot he topic - Don't trade Kreider! It is way too soon to give up on him!
@FREE MASHINTER @shoot_the_goalie @ATCRyan Well, Nash trade is looking good for CBJ right now cause Nash has been hurt so much. (but that's another issue - team toughness and protecting star players which we don't do)
Gabby trade, still not a fan, but don't think it was a lopsided trade. I'm biased though cause I liked Gabby a lot and the guy played with passion and played hurt without complaining. Lots of people questioned his mental toughness, which I think was a very underrated part of his game.
We should try fleecing Columbus and trade dorsett back. Might work considering he was a fan favorite.
