#NYR on ice for very optional optional morning skate: Biron, Falk, Asham.— Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) October 12, 2013
Henrik Lundqvist also participated in the optional skate.
...makes sense that only four guys showed up, because no one could use the extra practice.
...now I hate to make too big of a deal out of this because if they get bombed tonight it will have nothing to do with the lack of participation at a morning skate, but it seems to be a microcosm of what's wrong with this team. Over the course of the first four games, no one seems willing to do the little things it takes win at the NHL level, so by not attending a morning skate and work on the many aspects of their games that have been lacking up until this point (passing, shooting accuracy, etc.) it gives the impression that these guys don't want to go the extra mile to become a championship caliber team. I can't remember once during Torts' tenure that an optional skate was so sparsely attended. When a head coach takes a hands-off approach, attention to detail is the first thing to go.
...and where's our captain? Shouldn't he be the one setting the example?
This makes me so angry. The entire team (except possibly Richie) needs to get their sh*t together in a major way, and the only integral player who shows up for the optional is Hank? Where is Iron Mike when you need him? Disgraceful.
I'm sick of hearing about the system too. McDonough has all together forgotten how to play D so many turnovers in own zone. I get it if they're out of position getting used to system but losing all their 1 on 1 and 2 on 2. That's not the system that's just bad play
the only thing banged up on this team is their pride.. Id do away with this optional skate crap when you are sucking THIS bad. Either be there or you get a fucking fine.. Start fining these guys for all their shit ass play and laziness and see just how fast their game turns around. If you cant fine them then bench the fuckers and bring up some players from the wolfpack.
@TheNYRBlog This just pissed me off. AV seems way too laid back with these man children. If they don't care about winning why should we?
Are the players trying to send some sort of a message that they don't want to play for this guy already? Be professionals guys...not divas!
i love it, thats what all the cry baby fans n the ranger players get for wantin torts gone, its goin to be a long season with this creampuff coach
@jasonshyer and I are investigating a conspiracy theory. Please send bourbon.
Does anybody here ever ask....ask....ask
(1) Why was AV fired from The Canucks?
(2) Why was Torts fired from The Rangers after signing an extension in March of this year, prior to qualifying for the playoffs?
(3) How come Torts was hired so quickly by a mojor hockey market team after The Rangers fired him for all his "shortcomings?"
(4) How do you think Canucks' senior management wants Torts' to coach/transform his new team?
@TheNYRBlog I dunno man, first day back after a shitty road trip, go home & regroup for next game.
@TheNYRBlog Truly depressing. What the hell happened to these Rangers? AV too hands-off or system too advanced for players?
Cally, Hank and Girardi all hurting themselves in terms of contract negotiations so far... May not be so cut and dry to bring these guys back is what we are seeing...
Sorry, but during the season, you act like a Team on and off the ice!! When you're playing like a Championship goal oriented team, you can afford to skip an optional skate...I agree..Cally get your act together, and your team together!
Co-workers... thats all these guys are... They aren't teammates... A captain should be on the ice every chance he gets (temmates follow the captain's act). So I distinctly put this on Callahan. I dont care how hurt or tired you are, he should have got his whole team on the ice this afternoon.
Cally as the Captain on ice speaks for itself. I have to wonder what he is like in the locker room, however.
@TheNYRBlog wow what a team
@TheNYRBlog hearing anything on Nash?
@TheNYRBlog welcome to the AV era, soft and let's players do what they want
Look, everyone needs to stop saying the same "oh, it's only four games" bullcrap.
This team is listless and honestly it's embarrassing to watch. Four players at an optional skate? Sad.
We haven't seen the worst of it all yet either. Unfortunately, the diseased roots of the team lead to one old bastard smoking a cigar.
Smite the shepard... and the sheep will be scattered...
@Edved17 @TheNYRBlog And that's exactly what I've learned from 41 years of being a Rangers fan - don't get emotionally involved (exception - 1994)
I don't disagree, but Torts' firing opened his eyes too. He was stubborn with NYR management when he had the job, but once he was unemployed he was more open to being nice to the media, being more even keeled, etc. it's tough to admit, but what he can do in Vancouver is greater than here because getting fired was an eye opener for him.
@skev303 Maybe you're right. I guess we'll see tonight.
@RobWillsea Nothing other than he was flown back to New York and will miss tonight's game.
@VilleLampinen Definitely minor, but could be signs of a bigger issue.
@Paulie_NYR94 Too tired from adding up all the goals against? lol
There is an old bastard greater than he...his name is Dolan.
4 games it took for us to realize what happened with Torts was both the incorrect decision and rather shameful.
I don't know why they didn't show up: perhaps the timing of the travel makes it difficult. But right now they sure can use the practice
@lennynyr Lundqvist, Biron, Falk and Asham. So two goalies, a healthy scratch and a borderline starter. Awesome.
@TheNYRBlog yes, exactly. Extremely tired. That's a lot of goals!
CANUCKS fan here.... Thanx for torts! AV 's country club is almost eradicated.... Good luck with your season....
Well we barely have a 4th line here and seem to be already plagued by injuries and suspensions.... All our exciting prospect rookies got shipped back to junior.... Sigh...... Country club to bag skated.... Kind of don't mind that....
@wendythirteen Check back again when he rolls 2.5 lines for the last quarter of the season & the Sedins are dead on their feet in round one : )
