Update, 5:50 p.m.:
Steve Zipay at Newsday reports the Rangers have retroactivated the IR back to last Tuesday, meaning Nash is eligible to play against the Caps on Wednesday.
...despite this move, I still think Nash is going to be out for awhile.
Update, 5:04 p.m.:
According to Pat Leonard at the Daily News, Nash has been placed on injured reserve, which would open up an additional roster spot if the Rangers wanted to add two forwards.
Nash is now ineligible to compete in NHL games for a period of not less than seven days. Unless the team retroactivates the IR back to the date of the injury (last Tuesday) which would allow for Nash to play as soon as he is deemed healthy.
Arron Asham was waived earlier today.
...looking more and more like Miller AND Kreider could be on their way to New York.
The Rangers returned to practice today following yesterday's off day. That is, everyone returned except for Rick Nash, who, according to Alain Vigneault is still suffering from "symptoms" resulting from a high hit he took from Brad Stuart in San Jose last week...
"He's still feeling symptoms, so until I hear otherwise I don't expect him back"
...not exactly what we all wanted to hear considering the Rangers lack of scoring this early season. If he's still feeling symptoms, we might not see him for a minimum of two weeks.
...you have to wonder if a trade will be in the works as the Rangers don't have anyone in their system who would come even close to replicating Nash's expected output.
With Nash out, according to Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record, Vigneault stressed the need to add skill to the line-up.
...if the Rangers do decide to look in house, you have assume either Kreider or Miller will be recalled.
...seriously, why am I not hearing the name Mashinter?
In some positive injury news, Carl Hagelin (shoulder), who practiced in a non-contact jersey today, says (via Newsday) that he skated every day the Rangers were out West and his shoulder is improving. Hagelin added that he will talk to team doctors in a couple of days about contact.
...due to being placed on LTIR, Hagelin will miss a minimum of five more games, so the Rangers won't be able to count on him for at least two more weeks.
An additional note on possible Cam Talbot call-up as Vigneault tells Gross that recalling Talbot up will be discussed and also acknowledged Johan Hedberg's will come up but didn't feel as though he was here long enough in camp.
...sounds like Talbot is the guy.
AV said that coaches and management will meet this afternoon to discuss possible roster moves— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) October 14, 2013
Trade him? That is never going to happen, although I am not the biggest Nash fan. He was all the hype and did squat.
did a custom roster with my proposed Winnipeg trade, and this is what it comes out to. Suddenly our offense would not look so blah, huh?

Hope Nash plays Wednesday. If hes out for awhile Hags return will help alot.dont think kreider or miller will help unless theyve solved their issues.Once the defence is able to master AVs system we should be ok.Id still like to trade girardi or mdz as soon as we can for some skill.maybe later in the season
add 2 more PP goals to the Caps tonight, who are now over 50% on the PP... if we take penalties on Wednesday we will get smoked... Also that Ovi guy has 6 goals in 6 games, pretty scary for us
its about time. why they keep the skilled youngsters down, and hold on to washed up players like boyle and pyatt is beyond me
Ok Here is my Take:
AV was the wrong guy for the job - when a coach says he has doesn't know his people and players that's a major issue..... Hands off approach look like a don't blame it on me move and a cop out...
His lack of championship pedigree another problem....his playoff history another problem... Hiring a guy one of ur supposed best and players ur counting on had beef with and hates another stupid move.....No experience in either playing or coaching as an assistant in NYC another problem..... never coaching in the east a problem.... Playing Pyatt on the penalty kill a HUGE problem
Meeting should have been held to assess what they did right and keep that, fix what they did wrong... going forward.... management 101
Constant mistakes and not manning up list goes on and on
We had our best season 2 yrs ago and why we played with an edge and most of all most games we played with a lead..... from the first period on....
4 yrs ago we signed boogard anyone remember why.... 2 Flyers game I can recall
Carcillo vs Gabby getting pummeled as Girardi just watched and did NOTHING....
Brashear's cross check to one of the players almost decapitating him and no one did nothing as Torts sat our resident goon in the press box...
Nash & Mac donough getting run almost through the boards and no one does nothing again under Torts
the King said it best last yr when he called out the coach and management and asked them when were they going to toughen the line up .... and stop having guys run him over.... guess that fell on deaf ears Boy do we miss Sauer back there
we have a tendency to overate players and certain coaches fall in love with some players....
Pyatt - why in the hell is this guy ever signed let alone playing? he is useless.. doesn't fight to slow offers nothing - waiver wire but he is a AV favorite can only figure that cause how can u justify him even being on the roster
Del Zero - should have never made the team.... mistake prone... given far more than his share of ice time to grow plays sacred.. - minors or trade him
Stepan - over rated... his is a ghost out there.... got checked into the boards and nash came to defend him... where was he when nash got elbowed...
Hagelin - inconsistent player, great speed but disappears for games not a game changer....trade chip
Poulitin - hope I spelled it right another waste
Richards - why have a guy around that u will buy out save ur self 12 million? waste of money and holding a position that a rookie can be playing
Girardi - effective under Torts system but looks lost and making mistakes
Boyle - went to skaint school should have went to joey kocur or stu grimson school of fighting another useless 6.6 body Zucc has more balls than he does
Stralman - is he even playing? 1.9 mil
just naming a few.....
we have a roster full of inconsistent players career wise and under achievers.... making boat load of money coming out of camp....that should have been corrected starting this new yr Clean slate? why didn't u look at what was on the slate before u cleaned it maybe ud be better informed u idiot.... I pay 160 plus to watch the rangers....and this is what I get for my investment
This is all cap management crap, right? Retroactively putting him on IR means his salary doesn't count against our cap for the duration that he's out, so thats money that can be spent closer to the deadline, right?
Still hating this. 28 years old, concussion problems from soft hits. I'm sure the Rangers are being overprotective, between the contract and their history with doctors, certainly can't just give him some pills and send him back out there, but this could be the beginning of a long tailspin.
Thinking WAY outside the box & not feeling it's a move that needs to be made, I'm still not in panic mode, just throwing this one out there.
Maybe beat Carolina to the punch & offer up MarcStaal, Marek Hrivick, & a first Rounder (in either 14 or 15) for Jeff Skinner. (Skinner's got 5 years & 30 MIL on his deal & he's just 21, that could be a cap issue, on the bright side we could Waive Pyatt too.!)
I'd like too see Talbot backup Hank. He's going too be on a 1 way deal next year, let's see what he can do. And I smell a trade on the horizon.
Ain't no one close to Nash's skill level out there on the trade market 2 weeks into the season. Time to take the reins offa Krieder and Miller and see what they can bring. It's time for them to become a part of this team, they're both talented and physically capable for the NHL.
How long is Nash out since he has been placed on the IR? Considering the team was 0-3-1 without him last year, and is now 0-2 without him this year... I think this could be a pretty big problem.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I like it .. Only problem is there is no chance in hell that Winnipeg trades Kane for just MDZ and Girardi. They will need a good young forward in that deal as well.
We seem too be pretty good at shutting him down. But we can't shut anybody down so far this year so what do I know...
@SGrumet like him as a player, but the KHL thing scares me (especially after the Kovy thing). Also we cant give up a first rounder... its time we start keeping these draft picks and building a contender from the draft... which is the only way to do it.
I would give DZ Boyle/Pyatt and a second rounder
@mando24179 He's the same size as Stepan & Callahan & he's still filling out at 21. He's got the same head issues as Staal for the most part.
@mando24179 as long as you hate Del Zotto Ill cheer to that
@Scott from SEC 224 Staal alone is worth Jeff Skinner.
@Scott from SEC 224 Pass on Jeff Skinner who already has concussion problems at age 21, especially if we have to give up Staal who is a better player. Not to mention adding in Hrivik and a 1st rounder is insane.... That would be a steal and a half for Carolina
@jasonshyer It really is the only option right now.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane At least seven days.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane if he gets hit one more time hes never coming back
@Rangers3024 yea and next season when Richards is bought out you can slide Step and Brass up, and Lindberg into the 3rd line role (or Miller). Then use that additional money to resign UFA's and RFA's we want to keep, and upgrade the defense.
Defensive upgrades could be a 2 year contract to Markov, maybe Quincey, one or two years for Dan Boyle (if he leaves San Jose). Just some potential guys that I like, and 2 of them have a cannon from the point
Skiinner & Staal are a wash on health concerns, especially concussions.
I think Marc's going to end up in Carolina anyway after next year.
Hrivick came to mind as to not include Miller, Kreider, St Croix... Hell may make it St Croix? We don't have enough legitimate offensive weapons to play AV's system.
Maybe we get a an additional 2nd rounder in return, (i'm an optimist)
I'm also hearing just now from Larry Brooks, that Nash is now out indefinitely.
I like Staal, but i'd make this deal if it came up before he leaves after next year for nothing. I think Skinner's offensive upside would be worth the risk, He's the same size as Stepan & Callahan & he's still filling out at 21.
Remember when kreider was hot coming off of the frozen 4 championships how he lit it up....well, he's had a strong start to the season and might be hot a few games in to carry that confidence....seems like he wants it more than last year now
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane They could retroactive it to last Tuesday when he was injured so he can comeback whenever.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I don't this this will happen. Everything that I've read this year points to Winnipeg holding onto Kane. They are saying Winnipeg is starting to become Kane's team and he's showing more leadership and maturity this year.
And yea me to, but he will either stay with San Jose or leave cause he wants 3 years at 4 million... which I wouldnt give him at age 37.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @Scott from SEC 224 @mando24179 If they believe in AV's system, size is not as much of a factor. No Monsters on those Vancouver teams where AV had success. I'm not completely sold on that 90's era NHL mantras where "bigger is better". In the deep 2003 Draft We passed on Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Dustin Brown , Zach Parise, & Claude Giroux over Hug Jessiman with that mindset. Yes i believe that you need size to compete for a cup(the Bruins quick handling of the Rags last post season was eye opening) but not at the expense of skill.
@Rangers3024 I just don't see Winnipeg moving Kane. At least not now.
I'd pass on Skinner too. I don't really care for him and think he's overrated. I'd much much much rather have Evander Kane.
