According to the New York Rangers, Brandon Mashinter will make his 2013-14 Rangers debut in Philadelphia tonight with Mats Zuccarello headed to the press box as a healthy scratch for the first time this season.
Alain Vigneault says the decision was performance based, and not due to wanting Mashinter's toughness in the line-up against the Flyers.
...can you say live blog of every Mashinter shift tonight? lol
...in all seriousness, I'm not really all that surprised to see Mashinter in the line-up as he seems more qualified for fourth line duty than any of the other personnel on the team. And even if AV doesn't want to admit it, it makes perfect sense to get him in, what should be a physical affair, against the Flyers.
...as far as Zuccarello goes, eventually one of the underachieving forwards had to be used as an example and I guess Zuccarello drew the "short straw." It could have easily been Pyatt, Pouliot or Dorsett as well.
In some encouraging news, Henrik Lundqvist took shoots from goaltender coach Beniot Allaire after the morning skate.
Here's the proof courtesy of John Giannone...
...i like the sound of that. Would be a huge relief if he's ready to go Saturday night in Detroit.
Nice to have the "Monster Mash" back. I think if he just plays his game he'll stay in the big leagues as we need what he can potentially bring here - I predict a hat trick :)
Whoa Kevin...as much as I don't like Dorsett, he is one of the 3 forwards (2 actually in the lineup) who has actually scored a goal this season
All things being relative I don't think Zucc's been that bad. Problem is his passes are so quick and sneaky teammates often don't expect them, and unconverted passes, no matter how brilliant are quickly forgotten. Then of course he gives up a lot in scrums. He could be an integral part of the offense, that is if we ever manage an offense. We'll see. I'm rooting for the little guy.
i dont understand zuccarellos performance has been better than the majority of the team i was just having a conversation yesterday saying brad richards callahan zuccarello and brassard have all shown signs of good offensive play... honestly vignault has no idea what hes doing so far this season... i could put out a winning team with the roster the rangers have.. that would include kreider.. miller.. and possibly even kristo... delzotto doesnt belong on an nhl rink if he cant score
HAHA "Short Straw"... i get it... good one Kevin.
Kreider has 2 goals tonight, and the Rangers bounce back and win 5-2.
As for Hank I think its a shoulder problem... would explain why he could skate but not take shots previously... (blister, come on Kevin. Out a week and a half for a blister lets get serious here ;))
In other news the Rangers should sign Brett Favre for some added offense!
This will be my first time at a Rangers-Flyers game live, so I will be royally pissed if our boys lose.
@FREE MASHINTER This is what I'm going to picture you doing every time Mashinter gets a shift tonight...
"Short straw"...I see what you did there. Mashinter has all the tools to be a real effective 4th liner. Let's hope he seizes his chance! Although he does seem to be wearing Drury's old number, so he's got that to overcome.
@BrendyJohnson LOL! My bad.
@JoeAntos Yay 4th liner!
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I hate to even bring baseball into the conversation, but I've seen pitchers miss multiple starts because of blisters.
But the more that's being released from the Rangers on the issue, the less I think it's a blister.
@Medvjed004 That's not all that will go through the roof... :)
@gravey94 You beat me to the "short straw" comment. Surprised Kevin didn't acknowledge he did that lol
@AnnoyingJoe Dan Blackburn. And who could forget Ed Hospodar!?
