Chris Kreider was welcomed back to the Rangers with a spot on the top line with Derek Stepan and Brad Richards during practice today.
Kreider says the difference between this season and last is that he's healthy. He also noted that he simplified his game in Hartford playing with Oscar Lindberg and Danny Kristo.
Here's Vigneault on how he'll use Kreider (via Rangers)...
"Right now with the players we have out, that (top 6) is what we need from Kreider. He played well in Hartford, hopefully do same for us."
...unlike under Torts, no one can complain Kreider isn't going to get a chance. It's 100% on him to take advantage. And with the state of the Rangers offense, I pray to God he does.
Here are the lines...
...why is Fast rotating on the fourth line? He has no business being anywhere near that line. If he's not going to get top 9 minutes, he needs to be in Hartford.
...and I'm not just saying this because of my man crush, but Mashinter has to be the third guy on that fourth line. If he's not going to be in the line-up for the Flyers game, why bother calling him up?
Also at practice, Henrik Lundqvist was given a maintenance day, while Carl Hagelin practiced in full.
...with the way Lundqvist has been playing, he might need two maintenance days.
Finally, the Rangers reported that the was nothing new on Rick Nash as he continues to sit out of practice with concussion issues.
...this is not good. Can you say the second coming of Lindros?
How about putting Pyatt in the trash. Still trying to figure out what AV sees in him. Top line, PP, PK. WTF???
Jordin Tootoo's apparently on the market. 1.9m cap hit though...not very appealing, but the guy is pretty gritty and can actually contribute points.
i just hope they get something worked out to get something to click and start kicked some ass, i dont care who he calls up or sends down as long as it gets results lol that devil loss still hurts and is really embarrassing.
it makes no sense. a good coaching staff has to be able to evaluate their team and get the best out of them. coaches need not be hell bent on installing their "system." motivation is one of the most important things for a team. sometimes it's best to just let them play (but the results depend on the squad). at some point, though, you'd think these guys would want to man up for their own sense of pride. Callahan is maybe the only one doing this. I expected Lundquist to show up like that, but he hasn't. In any case, the Rangers' season has not yet started. i hope it will some time this year.
Zuccs still has some of the best passing skills on the team. Good thing he's got Pyatt and Boyle to convert them.
I think Hank and the rest of Swedes should go over to Nik Lidstrom's house and talk him out of retirement.
Fast needs to play against Philly. Need all the speed we can get against a slow team like the Flyers. Pyatt needs to fucking sit I'm so sick of his dreamy eyes, lol
Would love to see:
I think someone should tell AV what he doing to Pyatt by playing him and having him be the focus of so much anger with what is wrong. Everywhere one looks on Ranger comments his name pops up. This poor guy could be ruined for the rest of his life.
I think the solution is to quietly move him to the 4th line and after a couple of games quietly move him to another team for his own good.
I understand. I truly do... but theres a reason why Stepan plays big minutes and Kreider is left on bench or scratched. Same reason why AV comes in and sends Kreider down as well... hes unreliable and has a lot to learn still. No harm in that. With that said, kreider will prob score a goal on Thursday lol
Torts should be praised for infusing youth into the Rangers line-up for the first time since forever. Having said that, his handling of Kreider was questionable.
Pyatt in over fast!? fast standout way more than Pyatt. he must have some good blackmail on av from his nucks days.
Also for those of you that think Kreider is going anywhere, it aint happening. He is going to be a Ranger for at least this year and next until they start giving up on him. The guy has all the physical tools... he will get there... even Sather is not that dumb.
What is the deal with Nash... starting to get very worried. You figure it is going to be an additional week of recovery once he steps on the ice, and with everything coming out of the Rangers it doesnt appear he is anywhere close to stepping on the ice.... Just not good... AT ALL
On a side, looks like VAN is becoming the NYR under Torts. Best PK in the league, and 2nd worst PP in the league.
and this is with arguably more skilled players than Torts had under the NYR.
Since they seem to be going that route, maybe the NYR should trade Girardi for Kesler. I bet you Torts would endorse that trade.
Please drop Pyatt down to the 4th line or press box. I'm sick of mediocrity, and that's what Pyatt is. He's not very good, and he's not very bad, and that's why he gets into the lineup, but is that what we really want? I would rather see someone like Fast, Hvrik, or Lindberg in his spot. Sure, there's more risk, but it'll certainly come with more reward than Pyatt brings.
Also, I think it may be time to sit Zucc or Pouliot for a game and let others get a chance.
My feeling is that Kreider has been called up and placed on the first line to be showcased for a trade. Reading rumours aboud that Sather is looking to move him in hopes of a top six forward.
Zucc is better in a top six role, and I think there's an argument to put him there before Pouliot at this point. On the other hand, with all of Zucc's skill I think he needs to be able to play a third line role as well.
@shoot_the_goalie if he came back you know we'd see hank in red in a heartbeat.
@weregnalose I wouldn't be 100% against that idea.
That looks pretty good
@DaveFL As much as I wish we had that much influence/power as fans, don't think Pyatt or AV loses much sleep over what us fans think.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG dude's got pics of AV on the wrong end of a dalmatian.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane Kreider has size and speed but is not and never will be a power forward. He's a soft player who plays more like a European than a North American. And by the way, Sather is already shopping him.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane im telling you one more head shot and hes done
@shoot_the_goalie Del Zotto and Boyle for Kesler and any Canucks defenseman.
@shoot_the_goalie What others? If we sit Pyatt then there's literally no one else that we have scratched to play. We're dealing with cap issues as it is and with Hags coming back in a little over a week we don't exactly have the space to bring up every AHL player we deserve should get a chance.
@GregIverson That trade rumor was from Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun who is spotty at best.
@GregIverson ...Or he was called up and placed on the first line in the hope that Kreider himself could be a top six forward on a team that seems to be lacking top six forwards? No? That a crazy thought? My bad.
@AG_Blue @Betweentheworlds What in the world is with all this love for Zuccarello? This hobbit doesn't even belong in the NHL. At least Pouliot laid out a check on Bryce Salvador last game. I watched Zuc get knocked off the puck all night long. He SUCKS. He makes the Rangers ( along with Pyatt, Fast, Boyle, Richards, Kreider, Nash, and most of the Defense) soft to play against. I read that Detroit is shopping J. Tootoo. I know that he has his issues, but he's tough to play against, hits everything, and sticks up for his teammates. Trade Zuccarello for Tootoo!
@MikeBlue where did you hear that sather was shopping him?
@FREE MASHINTER bruce "malkin to the kings" garrioch. dude is a TOTAL hack.
@EHBIGAPPLE @MikeBlue @AG_Blue @Betweentheworlds Zucc was 2nd in scoring and assists on the team last playoffs, the time when small players usually disappear. This year's been less then stellar so far obviously but I see some pretty impressive skills there that can be developed if he can learn to negate his lack of size better. This year is big for him and his NHL future. I'm rooting for him
@Neans Honestly, I could see Slats now working the phones to see what he could get for Kreider (against his past untouchable status). However, I'm sure Slats is looking for a big return for Kreider.
