Carl Hagelin is eligible to come off of LTIR tomorrow against the Islanders on Long Island and the Rangers winger is chomping at the bit to get some game action (via Bergen Record)...
“Yes, everything feels good and I’m excited,” Hagelin said. “If the coach tells me to play, I’ll play.”
Alain Vigneault, who said he was focused on tonight’s game against the Canadiens, added this on Hagelin...
“I haven’t seen him in a game but I have seen him quite a bit in practice because he’s been practicing with us now for quite some time. That speed factor five-on-five and that speed factor killing penalties should push the opposition a little bit, make the opposition think he’s so quick and so dynamic that I’m really looking forward to having him in the lineup.”
...while I love Hags and can't wait to see him back in there, if the Rangers win again tonight, I'd be on board with AV staying with same line-up against the Islanders tomorrow. Can't mess with a winning streak. Even if that means another night of Pyatt in the line-up.
When the Rangers finally do decide to insert Hagelin back into the line-up, they'll likely clear out the necessary cap space by placing Rick Nash on LTIR. Speaking of Nash here's your daily
Daily update on RW Rick Nash (concussion): #NYR report nothing new, no change in status. Out indefinitely.— Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) October 28, 2013
Meanwhile, Ryan Callahan (broken thumb) skated for the second straight day, but the team still maintains that he's not close.
The line-up remains the same tonight meaning Brandon Mashinter (*uck!) and Justin Falk remain the healthy scratches.
Henrik Lundqvist is back in net after missing the last two games with an undisclosed injury.
Enough with the nash trade bullshit! We are married to him and so is sather. He has to come back, stay healthy, and play VERY well to even be considered tradable at his salary! And if he does those 3 things we would be idiots to move him! Buyout, maybe if he is not himself the rest of the year. Trade, never would happen even if we wanted it.
There is no way if hags is ready to play..you don't play him tomorrow I don't care if the rangers win 10-0 tonight ...that's just one of the dumbest statements I've heard
Gotta make you wonder if the rangers foresaw Nash's weakness and chose to not buyout richards this season. Richie hasn't been perfect but he has put up some points in the 3 wins despite him still being slow and a little lethargic. At this point trading nash seems to make sense,he's barely played since being here
It's still going to take Hags some time to get to form, though I hope he is out there tomorrow. Cally heals fast as we know. 3-4 weeks means we'll see him in 3. I think Nash returns in Dec. - hope sooner but these concussions are scary, having been through PCS - it's an ugly disorder let me tell you - just horrible and you think that you will never get better. Then when he does return he will do so with a glass head. Sid the Kid has been fortunate so far but usually an extended concussion injury means a shortened career unfortunately.
Question... there has been talk of the Sabres moving Moulson again to acquire more draft picks or assets... thoughts on if he would be worth a second and a low end prospect from us. I would love to see his physicality and goal scoring ability in NY (with the Rangers). Plus it would add even more hatred between NYI and us.
Feel like Mcphee would be on board for this
Does anyone know how the Cap situation would work IF Nash went on LTIR and Hags came off? They're pretty much right at the cap now, so they almost have to drop a couple of players to make room for Hags and his $2.2M hit, don't they? Trading Pyatt would be the logical choice (and would explain why he's been consistently in the line-up), but I'm not sure that happens.
F that overpaid over hyped canadian softy, we can win without him. cant wait for hags and callahan to get healthy and dfense to wake the hell up, LGR
Wait who is even questioning putting Hags in, umm one of the fastest if not fasters skaters in the league--no brainer.
Gotta love how everyone is hyped for the opener and how its a new step for us...but its against a team we have like win against in like 50 games.
Get Hags in ASAP. What success is everyone talking about? We won the last game in OT. If you are talking about "Don't Mess with Success" Put Cam Talbot back in net. He was the difference. He is fast side to side, quick recovery, and quick glove.
You are nuts... we need Hags back ASAP, our team is dreadfully slow. Especially against the Isles. If we replace Pyatt with Hags our team becomes infinitely faster...
@Jercooks845 no one is trading for Nash until he gets back on the ice... that is certain
@Jercooks845 Interesting point. I think Nash was healthy when he got here, but maybe the NYR docs saw something more when Nash got hit by Lucic last year. Maybe they didn't buy out Richie (who's at least healthy) so they could keep the flexibility in buying out Nash if their fears of his health were legit? Total speculation, but interesting theory.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane Doubt you could get Moulson for that little. A 29 year old who's a consistent 30 goal scorer is not going to be had for a bargain trade. More realistically would be something like a top prospect and a 2nd rounder, or a 1st rounder and a mid-level prospect.
and to that I say no thanks, cause don't want Moulson to be a rental player. Rather wait til free agency to try to nab him, but he's gonna be looking for a hefty pay raise, probably in the tune of 4.5-5m a year at least.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I would love to see that - he's the type of player we are lacking and sorely need. Don't think Vanek would have been worth it, even though he's better offensively but Moulson yes
If I'm reading this correctly, we currently have $0 of cap space. With Hank back in and Talbot and backup we'll be able to send Missiaen back down to Hartford.
After that you'd have to thing it would be a two-way player(s) on the move to avoid losing someone on a waiver claim. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fast go down, for no other reason to just get an opportunity to play more minutes in more of an offensive role. Then maybe one of Miller, Kreider, or Mashinter would be enough.
@Vkinc74 Funny though. I think Kreider is faster than Hags. Either way, NYR probably have two of the fastest skaters in the league.
@ChrisP Clean slate!
@BigBrian1226 One game isn't success, but two games is a streak.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane Why would you mess with success?
And I doubt the doctor's "saw" anything after the Lucic hits, theres not much you can see in terms of concussion unless a guy is dead and you cut open his brain. Everyone responds differently, and Nash didn't miss an alarming number of games with the concussion from Lucic. Not to mention that Richards has had one or two concussions in his career, too. But its not far fetched to imagine that management was underwhelmed by his playoff performance and his knack for getting injured, and knowing they could only buy out one, figured they'd keep their options open as long as possible.
Bottom line is you can't buy out an injured player, and if Nash has even the slightest of symptoms, the Players Association is going to push for him to stay employed.
@FREE MASHINTER addition by subtraction. bench pyatt and put in the swede.
@FREE MASHINTER @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane its not like swapping out zuccs and dorsett... Hags is a top 6 guy... When he is ready he gets back into the lineup. So if the Rangers were to win 12 out of their next 14, by your logic Hags would never play... If Callahan or Hags are ready they immediately get back in the lineup. Especially for guys like Fast, Pyatt, D. Moore, who still have yet to contribute anything
@shoot_the_goalie @johnnyb3910 @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @Jercooks845 I completely agree @shoot_the_goalie that Richie was kept to keep the options open and to givethe guy a second chance (and bc Sather hates to admit he's wrong). I doubt that the Rangers doctors saw something during the treatment of Nash that would have been a red-flag that he might need to get bought out, otherwise they wouldnt have put him back out on the ice. I never seriously thought about the possibility of Nash being bought out until the past week or two, but like @danblackburn, there was a drop off from what he was expected to be here, so maybe that played into the decision to hold off on a buyout.
I agree after the lucic hit he seems dazed and confused, he was paid to be the superstar power forward we need with leadership abilities from his time as captain. I just wish we had updates and some honesty from the organization
@johnnyb3910 @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @Jercooks845 those first couple games last year gave me so much hope, too. I mean he wasn't lighting it up, but he was such a presence on the ice. Whenever he decided he was taking it to the net, he got there. It just wasn't the same after the Lucic hit. Just less battling in the corners, didn't really cut to the center of the ice as much, he just looked like a guy with good hands and not much else. With his frame and hands, he needs to be driving to the net whenever he's one on one, but I'm not sure if he's capable of that anymore.
I think we've all had enough of overpaid stars and I underwhelming results, I'd rather see the kids go out there and kill themselves trying basically what I'm trying to communicate, hopefully slats is too. He very quickly dumped gabby and torts much to all of our surprise just makes me wonder if nash will suffer the same fate
@danblackburn @shoot_the_goalie @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane Don't think BUF would want to take on that big of a salary (Nash) as they are in rebuilding mode. According to TSN, BUF might shop Moulson before the trade deadline, but looking for a 1st rounder and a good prospect, or a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder. Complete rebuild, not looking to take on a lot of cap space.
If they can pull it off, they will essentially get two 1st round picks, and two 2nd round picks (or a solid prospect and a 2nd rounder) for Vanek. That would be a great move by BUF in rebuild mode. Not to mention the freed up cap space.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @shoot_the_goalie TSN realistically speculating that BUF may be able to get a 1st rounder and another pick or solid prospect for Moulson (if he performs well - and why wouldn't he in a UFA contract year). Not absurd. Very realistic possibility.
And DZ I doubt is attractive to them, cause 1) he's DZ, and 2) he's looking for a raise as a RFA, and the Sabres are in rebuild mode looking to free cap space, not increase it. BUF would rather have high draft picks in that scenario.
@shoot_the_goalie @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I see what you are saying but i do not think Moulson is valued at as high a price as you are insinuating. The Isles traded Moulson, a first, and a second for Vanek. If you think Moulson is worth a first and DZ in a trade thats absurd. The Isles would have traded a value of two firsts, a second, and a young offensive dman. No way thats accurate. I think Moulson's value right now would be a second and a mid to low level prospect, and DZ and a second would for sure get it done
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @shoot_the_goalie DZ, well, yes and no. DZ is a RFA. Moulson will be a UFA. Big difference. Plus I don't think DZ trade value is that high. I think maybe Moulson could be had for DZ and a 1st rounder or early 2nd round pick. Maybe.
and even then, Moulson could just walk next year, and we lose out on DZ (no tears there), but we also lose our picks. No thanks. Rather just get Moulson in free agency if we wanted him. Don't want pure rental players, especially since this team is definitely not a "win now" team.
@johnnyb3910 @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @FREE MASHINTER @gravey94 I doubt you can get Moulson for throw away draft picks and/or prospects. Guy's 29 and a perrenial 30 goal scorer. He could be had, but you'd have to pay the price with good prospects and 1st round pick I bet.
And I say no thanks to giving up that much for a rental player. Guy could walk after this season, and we get nothing in return except for what he would do this season. Rather wait to nab him in free agency, but there are better looking FA out there next year anyway.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @FREE MASHINTER @johnnyb3910 @gravey94 I'd move DZ before I traded draft picks. We've been drafting well the past few years, but they are always hit or miss with who pans out, so you can never have too many picks.
I'd be fine with going after Moulson. I never really watched him as an unbiased fan tho, so I'm not too familiar with what he brings to the table.
@FREE MASHINTER @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @johnnyb3910 @gravey94 Yea i forgot about that for a minute... but how do you feel about maybe a couple draft picks for Moulson (no first included).... Or better yet Del Zotto.
I would be totally fine calling up Aaron Johnson who has been playing very well with the wolf pack as a 6th dman
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane @johnnyb3910 @gravey94 Wasn't there an LTIR conversation on here a while ago that outlined how you only get to hold on to as much savings as you exceeded the cap by when the player was placed on LTIR? So, for example, if we bring back Hagelin and go over by $2.2 mil, then put Nash on LTIR, we'd only get a $2.2 mil cushion in the future?
Granted the $7.8 Mil savings is enough to clear space. But if Sather intends to replace Nash with someone making $4-$5 mil, or make a few moves in the nect month, maybe they try to work with what they've got on not put Nash on LTIR until a replacement is lined up.
Or maybe I'm completely misunderstanding that previous post...
@FREE MASHINTER @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane thats fine when you are talking about inserting a guy like Mashinter or Kreider into the lineup... but Hags is a proven commodity... if they can find the cap space and he is healthy... he goes no questions asked. If not and they lose it would just be another mind boggling decision from AV, which i would not be surprised by one bit
