"Just when you think that you're in control,
just when you think that you've got a hold,
just when you get on a roll,
here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again.
Oh, here it goes again.
I should have known, should have known, should have known again, but here it goes again.
Oh, here it goes again."
Tonight had the appearance of a preseason game with the Rangers just going through the motions without the snarl and physicality that you come to expect out of a Rangers-Devils game.
Question: What object put in more effort tonight? The Rangers in Newark or Callahan's non-broken thumb on his TV remote channel surfing after this latest debacle...
Besides Pyatt's ground ball that missed the far post in the first, did anyone have a quality scoring chance at any other point in the game?
Lundqvist.... He gave up a rare short side goal to his blocker side by Henrique that made it 2-0. His positioning in net isn't anymore to blame than his expiring contract is. If it his mental issues that are associated with his contract, he needs to get that figured out and quick. With Callahan out until mid November and Nash's concussion that is sidelining him indefinitely, Hank needs to be the guy that keeps the Rangers in close games if the team expects to stay competitive while the top guys are out.
Stepan's holdout continues to plague his game... invisible tonight, 1 shot.
Someone, somewhere will blame this on Del Zotto despite being a healthy scratch.
At least the Wolf Pack are winning games, including tonight to run their winning streak to 5... time to give a couple more baby Rangers a chance? Couldn't be any worse than what's on display now.

Sather is, and has been the problem for years now. I think he underestimates the importance of toughness and grit in this league. He's a dinosaur...we need new blood in the front office. Replacing the coach is like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.
AV has to go. But not his fault. I thought the Rangers needed an offensive coach since I thought their personnel would thrive under that kind of system but instead the players have fallen real short on that score. They have actually regressed under AVs system. The problem is the incompetence of the GM. If AV had players like he had in Vancouver, he'd have success here. As presently constructed, this team will not make the playoffs. Hope the 2014 draft is a good one. Their only two wins were low score, 2-0 and 3-1, that tells you all you need to know about this team.
Correct me if i am wrong but didn't Ottawa play without their top players and goal tending last season and had a lot of rookies, i think 6.7 at one time in the lineup and still made it 2 rounds into the playoffs. Granted they had injuries but with some guts to take chances and good coaching maybe it could work.
My fear is taking chance on trading prospects for another castaway is what they are working on now instead of moving one of the previous acquired castaways .
I will repost a post I made after the game about how tired I am of people saying it is early in the season:
Why do people always say not to worry in the early season? Do they not remember us missing the playoffs by 1 point to the Flyers? Seasons are won and lost ALL season long. If the early games don't matter, then why bother? Also, baseball has a 162 game season, yet we will see teams tied at the end! All games matter and the professionals need to act like it!
Who would rather see play right now:
MZA or Kreider?
Pyatt or Kristo?
Poulliot/Dorsett or Mashinter/Kantor?
Get rid of the bottom half of the lineup and bring up the kids; this is a wonderful opportunity to see how far future Rangers might develop
As previously stated remember when we would come back from behind and steal games, remember big mike rupp scoring in the winter classic? The dubi mustache, the arty laser snipe that disgusted Tampa bay? Remember when torts admittedly publicly that he asked prust if he needs mental help because he fights anyone and everyone. We struggled yes but compared to this roster we were dominant. We just got smoked by a winless devils team ill give them the fact that we are missing so many top 6 guys but if we had depth in the organization we'd be able to replace top guys with future tops guys. Instead we get pyatt, powe, zucs, pouliot, falk. This is classic rangers and it bothers me more now because finally we started to win games and consistently enter playoffs and compete in doing so. I'm just perplexed i feel like if we put a team together on this blog we'd even be able to compete against them
I think we are nearing a dangerous crossroads even though we are 7 games in. I'm not one to panic, but looks like some moves need to be made to shake up this team. I trust AV, but I am starting to question if these players presently here are the correct ones to play his game. Guys like Girardi, Zooks, and a couple of other 3rd and 4th line guys totally look lost. Slats should bring up a couple from Hartford or make a bold move to bring in some players familiar with AV's system.
We have the talent. The Sedins have Torts and are doing fine. We haven't had a home game (not an excuse, but does make it harder). We need grit. We have no muscle. Asham at least would drop the gloves. If we're going to suck, we need to at least bring some blood to the ice...from the other team. We need an enforcer. We need a lot. Now I'm going to drink.
Ok...so I finally signed up with this livefyre because I can't just sit back and read. I need to rant. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, RANGERS? The team that I am watching right now does not seem to be putting out the effort that is good enough for a winning season. On paper, there is more talent than there was 2 years ago. The difference now is: how bad do the guys on the ice want it, how hard they will work, and if they trust each other on the ice. Two years ago, who did we have? gabby, Hank and Richards? Even if we were down 2-0 a first period, we always came back and worked HARD. Always. I can take a loss when we put out the effort. I cannot accept a lack of effort and a loss. Can't.
I'm just grumpy about this seaon right now.
People are looking through rose colored glasses for anyone who thinks this Ranger team has a shot for anything. The Devils are not a good team and the Rangers come out with an ice capades effort with no effort. This team has lost its grit which was the one team you could count on in the past with this team of 3rd liners who can't score. Their one shining star is in a goalie funk, Their captain can never stay on the ice a full season, and there top scoring threat Lindros,( I mean Nash) has been less than spectacular. Sather has finally completed the job
You can win a stanley cup with these top 6 forwards , top 4 D and The King, no questions asked. It wasnt prust and dubinsky who brought them to the semi's 2 years ago, it was these boys here . they need to get healthy and some fresh legs and they will be right back to a cup contender. Just relax, there is no reason to think this team should be playing good right now. Post olympic break this team will be a beast, mark my words.
We scored a hat-trick tonight! We have the worst team, the worst coach, and the worst GM in the entire NHL. What a long f'ing year this is going to be.
Cam Talbot is playing well. He'll be playing like a wall if he starts with the Rangers. We need that right now and its now time to give Lundqvist a reality check to think on.Start Talbot next game or soon. Also Jesper Fast is showing he's capable, move him up and accept his rookie glitches because the Pyatt experiment was a failure-not going anywhere.Gotta go with what strengths we have at this time: Get the puck to RIchards to score and shut out goals with Talbot,
Seriously NEW BLOOD NEEDED, these guys are a F'in joke---one minute we're planning the parade the next we look like a AHL team AT BEST!
CALL UP'S NOW!!!!! Christ this is a nightmare so far--tired of the long road trip, tired of the getting to know the system. you guys are HIGHLY paid hockey players play like you give a dam.
You're right. And MacLean won the Jack Adams because of it:
MacLean guided the Senators (25-17-6) to a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs despite the extended absence of several key players due to injury. Defenseman Erik Karlsson, the reigning Norris Trophy winner, was limited to 17 games; defenseman Jared Cowen, the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, was sidelined for all but seven games; top forwards Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek played in just five and 23 contests, respectively; and starting goaltender Craig Anderson appeared in just 24 games. MacLean led a youthful Senators lineup, which included a League-high 14 rookies making at least one appearance, to the top defensive record in the Eastern Conference (2.08 goals-against per game).
@jslnyr1102 All of the latter
@ranger67 Welcome to the insanity!
@ranger67 I agree but I don't think they have more talent then 2 years ago. Dubinsky and Gaborik are better than three quarters of these players. dubi had toughness in the corners lacking with this team, and they traded a 40 goal scorer for what. Cause Torts didn't like him. So what do they do. Get rid of gaorik than get rid of Torts. Not to mention Colton Orr, Prust, Avery. Name me one guy who is as tough as those guys on this team. I was in favor of letting torts go but if they were really going to go that route they shouldn't have made the changes he was asking for in the first place. Sather has no clue and has cost this team its best years with Henrik cause of his mismanagement of personnel.
@DubiLeetch Dude, post Olympic break is 3/4 of the way through the season... If we haven't turned on the heat by then, then we will most likely already be toast. As I said earlier, seasons are won and lost starting with GAME 1! You miss the playoffs by one point, whoops that lopsided loss when you decided it was too early in the season to care suddenly means a lot more doesn't it??
@DubiLeetch I believe. These guys you mentioned are all very talented NHLers, even top level , despite some who are naysayers about them. They have what it takes. All that is needed is the sharp passing, and effort that SC playoff teams always show, and the predictions made before the season about a good Rangers team are not wrong. Its 82 games plus the Olympics so its a real marathon and who finishes first is up in the air.Rangers are definitely in the picture at this point even though they are not showing it.
@MikeBlue youll be blowing AV by the end of the year
@fs2020 Talbot will most likely start against the Flyers, then Hank against the wings, and canadiens
@AL55S @ranger67 The toughness and the grit are a MAJOR issue. I think that if we had that-everything else would be working much better right now. Prust looks like he was worth it all right now. He was actually an insurance policy (for the proctection and performance) of top line guys if you think about it. Look at what's happening-teams taking liberties because they can. No one is afraid to smack Nash or anyone else around. The money that is sitting home watching Hockey Night Live would be on the ice if we paid Prust. But hindsight is always 20/20. I didnt think he was worth it when it all went down. Now I do. Plus, if I remember correctly- a few years back he also lead the league in short handed goals. If he didnt lead-he was close. We miss him, and Dubi, bad. Also- those two actually gave a crap out there. So far this season, I don't see one thing that I feel is solid about. Oh wait- I do...if Cally isn't in the lineup, we are in deeper trouble than I originally thought.
when your a mediocre team you need to have that 82 game mentality but when you know your good you dont: pittsburgh last season, NJ 2 years ago. If they win 1 of these last 2 road games they will have gone 3-6 on a road trip and have the easiest part of the schedule ahead, with reinfocments on the way. If you havent noticed either the playoff brackets are different , the top 2 teams in our divi are in the playoffs no matter what. You see the other teams in the divi? we are fine...
@JustinRP37 @DubiLeetch No but Prust and guys like him help by making the other team think twice about going in the corners and running all those players you listed and getting the other teams stars agitated and off their game its a combination of stars and enforcers that we currently don't have and will never win without.
Even when we were the best in the east we missed the President's trophy by one point. All I'm saying is all games matter!
people got hurt and beatup while prust was here too: boyle by ottawa. we need to get over prust, dubi and anisimov hurt much more then him. if he was so great how would he be helping this team right now? penalty kill? cmmmon. never win without enforcers? who was he enforcer in 94'? who was chicago's enforcer last year? the game is about skating , dont get it twised. Prust's best attribute were his legs not his fighing
