Alain Vigneault reports that Michael Del Zotto will not be traveling with the team down to Washington, DC today as he is suffering from the flu.
Del Zotto could rejoin the team tomorrow, but is likely out for the game vs. the Capitals.
...flu? Where I'm from it's called a hangover.
...God help Del Zotto with the Rangers fan base if he doesn't play tomorrow and the defense has their best game of the season.
Here were today's lines which included the recently recalled JT Miller (via Bergen Record)...
Brad Richards-Derick Brassard-Ryan Callahan
Taylor Pyatt-Brian Boyle-Jesper Fast
Benoit Pouliot-Derek Stepan-Mats Zuccarello
J.T. Miller-Dominic Moore-Derek Dorsett
Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi
Marc Staal-Anton Stralman
Justin Falk-John Moore
"I see J.T. (Miller) with a good skill-set, plenty of offensive potential..he'd be a possibility to move up (into Top 6)-Alain Vigneault— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) October 15, 2013
...Vigneault has to be kidding me putting Miller on the fourth line. With the Rangers scoring woes, why would he wait to put someone who, you know, has been scoring goals into the top nine forwards. Embarrassing that Pyatt gets yet another look on the second line over Miller.
Rick Nash is still not skating with the team.
"I was thrilled to get the call...I am going to keep working hard, just as I did when I got sent down after (training) camp"- @ctalbot33— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) October 15, 2013
"When it comes to the goaltenders I trust Benoit Allaire, and he's been saying @ctalbot33 is ready to take the next step"-Alain Vigneault— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) October 15, 2013
boyler will step up! as for pyatt... why is he still here? he doesnt do bad, he doesnt do good, he literally does nothing
Are you sure the second and third line aren't switched? In fact, are you sure that the second line is not the fourth line? I think AV has some sort of vendetta against Miller. In my mind he earned a spot over Fast in the preseason. Fast does not look ready for the NHL. He's had one good shift in all of his games. I really don't understand why he is in over Miller and Kreider.
Tomorrow night if perhaps going to be he most defining game in the young season. If we cannot come out and get pieces together, then I have a feeling big changes will be made. On a positive note the Metropolitan Divison, still hate that name, has been playing poorly as a collective, outside the penguins. Hopefully we can rebound quicker than some of the other teams.
" As CBC's Elliotte Friedman pointed out in his weekly "30 Thoughts" column, only three teams from 2005-06 through 2011-12 who were four points out of a playoff spot by Nov. 1 went on to earn a spot in the postseason. "
Interesting fact I saw... may not want to fall to far behind the eight ball, huh?
I think DZ needs to hit the gym and the net and he'll be fine. Im a fan of his but he needs to be a consistent like he was in 2012 season. I think someone should slip with some PEDs just a small dose.
I know there's been a lot of chatter on here about Faulk's 2 stupid back to back interference penalties he took, but for me, I was encouraged at what he did at the 14 minute mark of the first period of the last game when the puck came into Hank's area and he skated in and aggressively pushed out the offensive player right out of the crease...I know it's small potatoes for now but still...what line is #15 Fuckwit Pluswhich on tomorrow night?
Can we please get Step up on the 1st with Cally and Richey where he belongs. Putting Fast with "Lead-foot" and "Sinker" on the 2nd line no less makes a hell of alot of sense. Was AV and MDZ out drinking together?
I know it is popular to bash poor Pyatt around here, but I like the guy. Sure, he's a slow, lumbering skater, but he's a big body, and I think he's gonna score us a few goals. Boyle is an excellent faceoff man, but pretty much useless everywhere else...forget dropping the gloves...a damn shame too...the guy is huge...coulda been a beast.
Wow, everyone is up in arms over Pyatt being on the 2nd line? What about that statue Boyle???? He's just as useless!
If I was told at the end of last season that that was going to be the second line going into the 6th game of this season I would have called shenanigans.
Maybe they're trying to oversell pyatt and give him minutes hoping he can put up any positive numbers thus making him easier to trade off. Our team is like the island of misfit toys. Like the Salvation Army we take hand me downs from others hoping to get another 5 years out of that starter jacket circa 1984
Just watched AV;s post practice Q&A. I'll give him until the end of the month, after that all the "i don't know the guys real well" comments need to stop.
On the flip side, I think the "each guy needs to be handled a different way" is starting to set in. He's talking a lot more about accountability and guys knowing that their time is running out. The follow up to that quote above about Miller sliding up to top-6 was AV saying that, without naming names, there are guys getting top 6 and PP minutes right now that know they don't deserve it based on production, and they'll be the first ones to get out of the way for a kid like JT if he earns it.
He's already said he'll give veterans a longer look. Pyatt's time is running out and Boyle and Dorsett could be right behind him...
With how well Powe played during camp/preseason I was surprised Pyatt even made the team, now he's on the second line. Where is the common sense.
This Pyatt thing is mind-boggling. I find myself watching just him the whole shift to see if there is something i am missing that a highly paid coach and staff see that i don' t see. Work against wall -zero Hitting-zero Skating - minus zero Scoring-zero D-coverage-zero. Maybe there is something wrong with my TV?
"as he is suffering from the flu."
So THAT is why he has sucked for so long - the world's longest case of the flu!
I don't care how bad Del Zotto has been playing, the odds that Justin Falk will outplay him tomorrow are below zero so he has nothing to worry about. And yes I realize most of the biased fanbase won't care and will say we should get rid of him if Girardi, Staal and McDonagh suddenly remember they're NHL defensemen lol.
As for the lines, honestly I would switch Pouliot and Miller. Start him on the third line and see how he plays. I'm sure he'll get moved up if he proves he deserves it.
Why is pyatt on the second line...switch him with millers so he can play with fast nd maybe get some scoring chances blows my mind
Anyone concerned that we don't have any extra players up? Someone pulls a groin muscle in warmups and we're starting the game a man down. Shoulda called up an extra body (Kreider, Haley - anyone but Bickel)
Hey, in his defense, (no pun intended) He hasent been taking any penalties. Now Falk on the other hand...
@JustinRP37 True this.I think if the forwards continue to show they get AV's system ,play well and the defence manages to show an inkling of ability and understanding of the new system .We will continue with the status quo. However, if the players continue to not be able to get it and are basically confused again. There will be a shake up, basically to get their attention and get them motivated to get in line.If Lundy covers any D's mistakes and we win this game, its an important step. LGR!
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane Don't think this team falls into that limitation. It has a lot of players who aren't or haven't been able to play at their best usual level because there has been a revolution in the system played. This is a team that could turn around quickly and become a contender as predicted before the season.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane I saw that. It doesn't seem possible. Four points isn't very far behind.
@Jercooks845 haha I still have my 80's starter jacket
sorry i was caught in a day dream there for a minute... my mistake instead we have Pyatt on our second line... back to reality
@Melissa (blknblueshirts) Only problem is Pouliot on the fourth line is not ideal.
@johnnyb3910 If Step didn't look like complete and utter crap, sure. He may have five assists but he's looking like Richie did last season. Maybe later on in the season we'll see Miller Step Cally, but right now Step's -7 is the worst on the team along with Giradi and Staal and there are several plays where Step completely avoids the front of the net on defense allowing the other teams forwards to just go in and get the easy shot.
@johnnyb3910 Got to love the Stars and Stripes line.
@FREE MASHINTER Then what line is Pouliot ideal on? (Yes I know I sound like certain fans when talking about other players but he hasn't impressed me...)
@FREE MASHINTER Haha fair enough. Personally I would put him in the press box but apparently we can't put the entire team there...even if most of them deserve to be....
@xxscaxx @johnnyb3910 @FREE MASHINTER Completely agree, but at 1-4, its time to take some chances. NYR coaches seem to have a long history of not understanding the connection between opportunity and production. You can't take a goal scorer and put him on a grinding line and expect that line to start scoring. Just like you can't cut a guys minutes in half and simply expect half the production. If a guy scores on 10% of his shots, a coach needs to give him every opportunity to get 10 shots a game. Its a crude way of looking at it, buts its true.
@johnnyb3910 @FREE MASHINTER I'd imagine it being that he is a "rookie" and needs to prove himself to work his way up. Don't necessarily agree with putting him there, but thats how I see it at least. He was brought down to Hartford for a reason, and even though he played well it doesn't automatically mean he gets inserted into the top 6 when he is a fill in at the moment.
