Rangers announce Ryan Callahan is out 3-4 weeks with a broken thumb. #NYR recall F Darroll Powe and G Jason Missiaen, send G Cam Talbot back— Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) October 17, 2013
Per Larry Brooks, Callahan broke his thumb blocking a John Carlson shot with just over two minutes remaining in the third period last night.
...ummmmm, wasn't this supposed to stop when Torts was fired? It's fair to wonder if Callahan must seriously consider changing his style of play if he wants to remain healthy. Not sure that's even an option because if he tones it down, I don't think he'd remain an effective player.
...and what's up with the recall of Powe? Is he seriously being looked upon to replace Cally's scoring output? I know Kreider probably needs more seasoning, but this is an extraordinary circumstance. Says a lot about the organization's opinion of him that he's not being called up.
...don't read anything into Talbot being sent down. Team just wants to get him some action during the weekend instead of him getting stale on the Rangers bench.
heartbroken. starting to wonder if I cursed myself buying a Captian Cally shirt for myself and a "NY girls like it Nashty" shirt for the wife right after the season opener! Thanks webleedblue.com!
Its horrible news but if we take a look at the schedule we have 13 games in the next month if we can 6/7 of those games were fine. In that month we get Cally/Nash/Hags back.....this is a doable tough stretch to get through please tell me im wrong
Also brings up the question how long and how much do you pay cally next year?
With his style of play (same question can be said about Girardi) and month long injuries every year it seems, this guy will be a walking wounded in year 5 of any deal.
I know he must be re-signed, but man this throws up red flags about him playing a full year.
injuries are biting us early this season. Let's hope that latter down the stretch we don't have so many of them. 2 of our best forwards are out, this sucks.
F me...Nash, Cally...what's next? Oh I know, Del Zero returning to the lineup.
Hey AV - you better work, bitch!
I think everyone needs to accept the fact that Kreider is not the player we want him to be. When I watch him play, I don't see anything. Miller on the other hand, has potential.
Miller will take Callys spot on the top line as well as his role on the PP. Powe will jump into Miller's previous role on the 4th line and take on Cally's PK minutes. Yes, Kreider hasn't been called up again but this to me looks like a front office that actually has a plan with Kreider for the first time in ever.
Injuries happen... have to power through it... Honestly if we can be a .500 team in the first half of the season we will still be able to take off in the second half. Even without Cally if everyone plays like they did last night we won't lose to the Devils or the Flyers (in the short term)
if all this crazy stuff is going to happen better at this point in the season well also get see what av is made of
If we play like we did last game, we'll still win 1-0 instead of 2-0 without Cally.
Gotta just keep on playing well, Hags will be back soon, maybe next game. If Krieder and the others need to continue in the AHL, so be it .No problem with that after watching them with the Rangers.
Can't link right now but check LeBrun's timeline. He explained thought process in moves (or at least what he thought it was). As for Cally, pretty sure I said on here a few weeks ago he's made of glass. Really didn't want him to prove me right :-/
Cally can have both my thumbs if that will get him back sooner.
But please just kill me now. Why are we this cursed???
if anybody was that ready to score NHL "GOALS" they would be here. we need more goals for sure, there not in hartford get over it. Notice how a guy like miller can dominate the pack and then barely sniff the puck in the nhl. if you watch baseball you know this, theres a big jump from there to the big show. if they were ready they would be here, plain and simple give it up.
I'd guess/hope they are committed to Kreider staying in Hartford until, say, Thanksgiving. I'm all for putting the onus on the current roster to put pucks in the net. And nothing says 'we are not bringing up goals' more than Powe. Ha ha. And I'm a fan of Powe).
Kreider not being called up is a mystery. Is he a head case? Is he now trade bait. I think it is strange that he wasn't called up.
@Ciffy02 Cally's reminding me a lot of Chris Drury. Size, type of player, work ethic, talent, leadership. But by the time Drury got to the NYR, he had no knees to stand on. I don't want Cally to abandon his style, but I worry Cally is heading the same direction.
@blueshirt21 You're probably too young to remember Don Murdoch. He was a pure shooter and scored plenty as a rookie. Kreider is a fast skater with a good shot. Put him on a line with Brassard and watch him score. He's as big as Pouliot and certainly has more potential. I also wonder about Miller's lack of speed. Hopefully he learns how to compensate. Even Kristo is a scorer. Bring him up not Powe.
@blueshirt21 yea we've seen so much from him to make that judgement for sure
@gravey94 I hadn't thought about that. I'm totally calling the team out again in a post tomorrow.
@ShreddyMercury Why is it that he was so fucking valuable and nobody can just do what he did without being hated?
@JoshKaye Kreider will be a great addition to this team in November/December when he has 25-30 ahl games under his belt, and becomes a consistent Professional player... I agree
@JoshKaye Agree with you Josh. That's 100% the thinking with the Rangers on this. I don't necessarily agree with it, but they definitely have a plan which I guess is all you can ask for.
@JoshKaye I hope you're right.
@NYR44 Who's Brad Richards ? HEAVY METTLE
@Melissa (blknblueshirts) 7 year contract he is asking for ain't happening... hed be lucky to get 5
@queensbee the curse of Rick Nash?
@BulldogLine Definitely a fan of Powe, but, as you say, he's not what this team needs right now.
@jslnyr1102 Very strange. Guess they don't feel he's ready.
@JMK8363 right, the smurf and the schmuck, this is the answer...
@FREE MASHINTER He's played well in Hartford. Need some offense in a hurry
