The New York Rangers (1-4-0) lost to the St. Louis Blues (4-0-0) by the score of 5-3, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
...i guess the effort was better tonight, but that's easy to say when the Rangers were outscored 15-2 the last two games. Still seeing way too many defensive breakdowns and not enough 5-on-5 offensive pressure. And don't get me started on the undisciplined penalties tonight.
...nevermind, get me started. Not sure how Dorsett can still be on the roster when the team plane lands in New York tonight. Every time the Rangers creeped back into the game, they were undone by Dorsett's stupidity. I remember hearing about how Rangers fans were going to fall in love with Dorsett when he was finally healthy. Yeah, not so much. Can you say Ryan Hollweg redux. Time for Mashinter to replace him.
...speaking of being replaced. After being pulled in the game tonight, you have to wonder if Biron will be pulled from the roster soon as well. With the way the Rangers were playing into the second period they had a legit chance of stealing this game but Biron's inability to make even a routine save destroyed any hope they might have had. Cam Talbot was named first star of Wolf Pack win tonight. Just sayin'.
...loved the captain's effort tonight as he tried to will the team to victory.
...i tell you what, I'm not sure the Rangers are paying Richards enough money or have him signed for enough years.
...maybe Stepan can give him some of his new contract, because right now he's not earning it. Looking more and more like what happened to Dubinsky after he held out.
...thought the Rangers finally started to show some balls in the first period as they initiated numerous post whistle scrums, but as their game began to decline so did their nerve.
...so seriously, what's happened to the Rangers defense? They have easily been a top five unit in the league the last few years and now they can't even pick up a man going to the net. Amazing how completely lost they are with the basics of defending.
...biggest offender tonight was Staal, who lost his man on the first goal, then had terrible communication with Fast on Backes second goal. After an amazing preseason and opening night, I thought Staal was back and then some, but since the LA game he's played like a guy with a severe eye injury (-7 in those three games).
...i was going to say replace Del Zotto with Falk, but that's not an upgrade at all. Allen?
...saw a little bit of that awesome playmaking ability from Brassard tonight, but he's looking to pass way too much.
...did the Rangers leave Zuccarello in Anaheim?
...hey, at least it looked like Lundqvist found his game tonight.
...maybe if more players participated in this morning's optional...ok, I won't go there.
...Pouliot with a great move and can't finish? Shocking.
...biggest positive to take away from tonight was the power play. I never once saw it look as good as it was tonight under Torts. With the Rangers lack of even strength offense, the extra man may have to carry them for awhile. Especially if Nash is going to be out for an extended period of time.
...zero blocked shots for McDonagh. ZERO?!?!?!
...with winnable games against the Capitals, Devils and Flyers on the horizon, I'm not ready for Sather to make a panic move (mass recalls or trade) just yet, despite the team's horrid play.
...plenty of time to sleep in their own beds and work out the kinks at their own practice facility as the Blueshirts won't play again until Wednesday in our nation's capital. Unless of course the game is canceled due to the government shutdown.

Can we stop with the "Torts should have never been fired" or the "We should hire Messier" talk?
Torts is gone, players didn't want to play for him anymore, and it's easier to fire a coach than the whole team. Plus, he was a mediocre coach. Proof is in the coaching numbers when he was here.
Mess is gone too, and frankly I don't want him back. Sure, he was integral to winning a Cup, but the guy left TWICE, cause he didn't get what he wanted.
Maybe we should just hire Keenan again to lead the NYR? Oh yeah, he cried foul on a BS clause in his contract so he could be a GM in STL.
It's amazing to me how people have such blinders on when it comes to the reality of NYR players/coaches.
Maybe that's why people call for blowing up the team after 4-5 games?
I knew it wouldn't be long before Dorsett became the goat for that game. You want a goat - try Biron with those two men's league goals he let in. Dorsett was a marked man all game and should have just laid low. He cares too much to have him sit - try Pyatt and Boyle - useless. Let's see more kids instead of those two
Dorsett should at the very least be sat a few games for mashinter, what a joke this guy is giving away any momentum this team gained. Pyatt has no business being on this team, you can't justify to me how this guy deserves a roster spot over kreider miller or kristo. Guy's slow, soft and provides no offense. What a joke. Girardi is a system defenseman, hopefully Van. calls for him soon. Dz is a joke, staal is the reason for two goals, Mcdonagh is not even noticeable anymore. I don't think Biron could stop a basketball from going through his five hole. Pouliot has some moves but I don't think he could score into an empty net....some players are coming around but half this team isn't even worth watching, I enjoyed watching the Blue Jackets yesterday afternoon more than this team last night.
Fire Sather and AV, then start cleaning house .
This was Tort's team and they are no where close to contending this year. "Only 5 games".....
BS..... I've been watching hockey 30 years and no team that gets out scored 20-5 in 3 games is bouncing back to contend with the same personnel
This team needs a tough stay at home defenseman who clears out the front of the net. It could be guy who fits into the 3rd pairing. Also, find a place on the 3rd line for Miller and put Zooks in the press box.
Better effort, still lotsa holes to fill and things to work on. If they can build off this coming back to the East, they'll be on their way. Keep in mind, their 4 losses have been against teams that have started 15-3 on the season. Some teams start hot, others do not. They should be able to build some momentum coming back east and playing against other struggling teams. If they lose all three against Washington, NJ, and Philly, then there;s legitimate reason to worry.
@TheNYRBlog I agree we don't need "panic moves" but I think bringing Miller up isn't a panic move and he's earned it over Dorseet or Pyatt.
Who would've thought goaltending would be one of this team's weaknesses?
Being outscored 20-5 over 3 games is more than just bad defensive play.
I'm getting ascared.
Zuccarello, 5 games played, 0 points scored, SOG 5....hes averaging 1 shot per game!?....hes -2...yeah Zucarello really ROCKS!
Not going to judge anything much until 10-15 games at very least even if we manage to win.Its a brand new system with a team that has all been ingrained with a totally different system. Have to give it just a little time to be accurate. Goaltending is a different story though. It certainly can be judged.Looks like the Rangers goalies have to play better than they have. They don't have any valid excuses now.
Nope. Didn't watch the game and we still lost. What happened to Biron? He was a solid NHL goalie. And look at him now, he can't even make some regular saves, everything goes in. I think it's time for Talbot to join the first team. he can't be worse that Biron.
You know, I was thinking while looking at the We Bleed Blue shirts-- isn't it a little hypocritical to have those 1983 shirts for the Isles when we're in the middle of our 20th last-cup-iversary season ourselves?
@TheNYRBlog Starting Biron was a horrible idea while this team are trying to find an identity!
Yea, we were all thinking it, the guy is not an NHL caliber goaltender
@dancz Forget Mashinter. Bring Haley up.
@Stormer1211 Agreed. I meant more like mass recalls or a trade.
@RUMAN79 Nope. Want to see this team under more normal circumstances.
@johnpnj It's not goaltending that's the weakness. It's the D. Hard to not goaltend when no one is playing D in front of you.
@fs2020 Hank was great in the 3rd period. Biron has been weak, but the NYR D has been horrid thus far. I'm willing to give it 20 games. If NYR are still playing like they are now in 20, then I think they have a problem.
@Medvjed004 I could drive my car through Biron's 5 hole
@Medvjed004 Biron has had a pretty decent NHL run. Time to move on...he could immediately replace the goons who comment on the NHL network or TSN. Glenn Healy is a hammer-head.
@Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane He was, and he should be put out to pasture. Merci Biron — next!
@TheNYRBlog Very fair. I'd even sit both and maybe even Boyle.
@TheNYRBlog out there that cannot play AV's system or simply dont thrive
@TheNYRBlog I saw SOME improvement, but defense, Goalie and inability to stay out of the 'sin bin' still bad. Think there are players....
@RUMAN79 Lots wrong right now, that's for sure.
