Marc Staal sat out today's practice after taking a shot off his right foot last night in Dallas.
According to Pat Leonard at the Daily News, Staal was seen limping down the hallway back to the locker room after the game.
Staal says the results of x-rays were negative and that it's nothing more than a bruise.
Staal is expected to play tomorrow night in Nashville.
...Staal has had a bit of an uneven start to the season. He started off red hot, then faded and has now turned it around again. With the bottom of the defensive pairs a concern, losing Staal would be a blow to a defensive unit which struggled mightily last night.
...and I hate to pile on Del Zotto, but the Rangers defense was pretty stellar prior to last night allowing just three goals in the previous three games without the embattled defenseman in the lineup. If Staal does have to miss some time both Falk and Del Zotto will be forced into action, which isn't an ideal situation.
Meanwhile, Alain Vigneault has announced that Cam Talbot will start tomorrow against the Predators.
...while I'd love to see Lundqvist right back on the horse after his heroics in Dallas, the Rangers began a seven game in 11-day stretch last night, so AV needs to get Talbot some action to keep Hank fresh.
...i also love Vigneault having the confidence to go with Talbot against a tough Western Conference squad instead of saving him for some of the bottom dwellers the Rangers will play during this demanding part of the schedule.
Argh. Hate to be missing so many of these games. Great work Kevin. I'm able to stay abreast of rangers news with this blog. Best source of rangers info on the net.
PS. I'm checking twitter a lot too to see if there's any MDZ movement. Carolina maybe?
Headed to Nashville for the game tomorrow night (4 hour drive for me). Surprising my two daughters with tickets; they think we're going just for a quick pre-Thanksgiving getaway. I have to secretly pack their Ranger gear...
Sad to hear I miss my only chance to see Hank in person, but have faith in Talbot. Hopefully will see a few goals for, and fewer against!
loving AV. anyone else notice he looks like he could be isles coach capuano's twin? just a slicker manhattan version
Caught the game on the tube via The Stars media team.......not a single mention about Richards' return to Dallas. No thank you signd in the crowd either. It was like he never played there. Speaks volumes to the kind of impact player he is/was?
On the other hand they were literally in absolute awe of The King's performance and Nash's two moves (albeit only one was successful)
Really, last night was all Del Zotto's fault??? The pinch was bad, but c'mon. And I'm pretty sure DZ wasn't on the ice for all 26,785 shots that Dallas had int he first period...
AV & co. seem to be making good decisions with the goaltending thus far. Let's hope it continues. Good to keep Talbot in circulation.
Again... With Florida coming up... Don't get why hank isn't between the pipes. Really dumbfounded with that decision. Hope Staal is okay!
We've missed you at game time too! (i've actually been seeing a lot of games when they're replayed) I'm sure we'll catch you from time to time over the course of the season.
Have a great one!
@DPSnotty Awesome! Have fun and bring us home a victory!!!!!!
He was only there for 3 years, and despite putting up really good numbers personally, the entire organization was in a tale spin during his time there, one of the main reasons he left. The fans at last nights game propabanly didn't even know it was the same Richards.
AV said it was Brassard's man to pick up. MDZ made the right read but Brassard went to the same man MDZ took rather than taking over MDZ's spot. So in this case it looks like MDZ was not the bad guy.
@proslyn Didn't blame him. Just merely pointing out the coincidence. lol
@proslyn Well Del Zotto was trying to prove himself and he made a stupid play with a 3-1 lead that contributed to a goal against. That's hard to ignore. I also thought the Dallas forecheck overwhelmed him at times. He wasn't quick getting to or moving the puck after Dallas dump-ins. So it wasn't all his fault, but he didn't do himself any favors.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Nah, seven games in eleven days. Talbot is going to have to play against some good teams.
Also, Talbot when to college not too far from Nashville, so I heard that could be a factor.
That makes sense. Under the circumstances, however, it's easy for fans to get on DZ after seeing that, because DZ already kind of in the dog house. If DZ knows it's Brassard's man (which he may or may not have known), he's gotta be shouting at Brassard to cover him, even though Brassard should know that (which he maybe didn't). I'm sure their responsibilities have been clarified now, let's hope it sticks (DZ has seemed a slow-learner at times, not too sure about Brassard yet).
Might be good for Hank, too. Let him practice the next 3 days with the mentality of just winning a game and building off of that. He's probably been putting a lot of pressure on himself and stressing at practice.
Personally, I don't think I've been leaning on the kid too hard. While it takes longer for a D-man to develop, this is Del Zotto's 5th season in the NHL. He may be only 23, but you can't just go by age in his case, he's already been around the block a few times -- and to be fair, he has put up some decent numbers. This could be a break-out year for him, but it looks more like the same old DZ. If he sticks around, let's all hope he has a break out season, if he's traded, hopefully we don't miss out on all we've hoped he would become.
