According to Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports, the Rangers are one of a few teams interested in defenseman Colin Suellentrop of the OHL's Oshawa Generals.
The 20-year-old defenseman was drafted in 2011 by Philadelphia, which decided against signing him.
Friedman says the 6' 1", 205lb Suellentrop, who went unclaimed last June, but attended Montreal's rookie camp, has worked hard to improve his skating and could be a classic late bloomer.
Suellentrop has zero goals and six assists in 21 games this season.
Hockey's Future says that Suellentrop is a big, stay-at-home defenseman whose biggest assets are his size, reach and skating ability. They add that he's adept at distributing the puck to transition from defense to attack.
They also project him to be a prototypical shut-down, defensive defenseman in the NHL, but he'll have to work harder to get the attention of another NHL club now that the Flyers have passed on signing him.
The only videos I could find of Suellentrop are of him fighting, so I guess he likes to brawl...
...stay at home defenseman with size, who can fight? Can't go wrong with that. Plus, you can never have enough defensive depth.
...Hockey's Future recently ranked the Rangers organization 21st in the NHL because of their lack of depth in the system especially on the blueline, so signing Suellentrop will definitely help in that area.
This is the same crap we've heard for YEARS!!!!
"We need a big crease clearing defenseman, like Beuk used to do".
Fu**..... I'm so tired of it!
Why the F did we draft McIlbust then instead of Fowler. Fowler could be working our PP and learning on the job, while we could have traded DZ for a respectable 2nd line scorer like Frolik and instead we have Mr. Stretch pass and McIlbust.
I love G. Clarke but I'll never understand McIlrath over Fowler....
"Big physical defenseman who can skate, has the potential to be a shut down guy, and can fight... please don't sign this guy."
-Michael Del Zotto
I'd rather have a defensive minded defenseman on our line than a fraudmensive minded defenseman. ahem. MDZ
Rangers President and GM Glen Sather is in Toronto for the Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony and the GM Meetings and Bob McKenzie tweets that there is an expectation that he will meet with Don Meehan of Newport Sports to discuss Henrik Lundqvist’s contract extension.
Please get it done... 6 years 50 million... Easy as pie

Wow. I'd love to see a fighter like that on our team. Add to that a defensive-minded defensivemen? Sure why not!
@BrendyJohnson they only like dmen that play offense, and are a complete liability on the defensive end of the ice
@KreiderisTheChosenOne I don't know if 6 years will get it done, I think Hank is going to want 8, he would get that somewhwere, would put him at 40 at the end of his contract, I think it should be 8 for $60, that would be $7.5 per annum, which could actually look fairly cheap on the books in 5 years if the cap keeps rising. You're right though, it really shouldn't be that difficult to get it done. Methinks Mr. Lundqvist is due a Christmas present, no?
@SpazzBrown If he is so good, how come no other teams are interested to sign him?
