Rumors have been swirling about Rick Nash (concussion) skating recently, and now, Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that the Rangers All-Star winger has skated on his own periodically at the club’s training facility, but there is no expectation of an imminent return.
Meanwhile, Katie Strang at ESPN.com adds that Nash has rarely been seen around the team, but confirms Brooks' report that the forward has performed some intermittent physical activity at the training center and “continues to do so.”
...listen, I'm sure there were times when Sauer skated on his own post concussion, so I'm not ready to declare him on the mend just yet, but this news is much better than hearing he's still huddled in the corner of a dark room.
...if the Rangers can follow-up last night's offensive explosion with another spirited effort in Columbus tonight, you have to assume Sather may decide to pull back on any potential trade talks he's been exploring to possibly fill-in for Nash. Which would be music to my ears considering some of the insane trade rumors that have been floating around here recently.
On a related note, Edmonton Oiler brass were in attendance at MSG for the second straight game last night.
Yesterday, Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins squashed all the Nail Yakupov to the Rangers rumors by telling the media that the team had no intentions of trading the 2012 first overall pick.
The Oilers are said to be pushing to trade Ales Hemsky, who is on the final year of a contract worth a $5 million cap charge.
...just because the Rangers scored five goals against the Penguins last night doesn't mean this team isn't going to continue to be maddeningly inconsistent on offense, but having said that, the players the Oilers are making available, are likely not to help the Rangers. PASS!
Has anyone thought of where Nash would end up in the lineup when he returns??? (staying positive now and believing he is coming back this season) def not breaking up steph, kreider n zuccs. I like cally on the same line w/ Hags and I get nervous thinking of Richards back w/ Nash after last year. Just curious. As for trade talk, i'm still down for getting rid of Del Zaster if anything worthwhile is available even if it's for a productive forward straight up.
**********Lastly, when Nash returns, I will walk naked across the Brooklyn Bridge if somehow Pyatt still remains in the lineup! CURSE THOSE BLUE EYES!
Wow can't believe AV is playing Talbot tonight with the Panthers coming in on Sunday. This is a bog game and would much rather have Hank tonight against the Bluejackets. What is he thinking????
OK, I'll hold off on my "I told you so"s until there is more definitive news on Nash but just a shout out to the naysayers I've been sparring with - and for those of you who say that even if he comes back he's one hit away fro retirement my response is: Sidney Crosby, Marc Staal........
Well... Talbot is playing. So a loss tonight I put directly on AV. Don't know how you sit the best goalie in the world against a division opponent when we play the panthers on Sunday. Think this could be a mistake
Not so sure Sauer skated on his own. Rinks are pretty bright so it is encouraging that he can at least stand that. Unless the Oilers are proposing one of the young guns (i.e., Eberle, Hall, Nuge, Schultz), I'm not sure there's much to talk about.
Another good thing about the Rangers playing well is it'll allow Nash additional time to rest and wait until he's truly ready to return.
Nash is better than anyone we would get in a trade... He could be the equivalent of our trade pickup if he can get healthy. We don't need a guy like Hemsky that always gets hurt and doesn't play defense
I hope he's back by the holidays too! But what worries me is if/when he comes back is he one hit away from ending his career? Get healthy soon though. Thats the first step
That would be amazing if we keep this up. If we play like this without Nash, imagine what it will be like when he does come back. I'm hoping he's back by the Holidays, so we can beast that 2nd half.
I would think Nash would take Cally's spot on the top line and Cally would move to the third line with brass and pouliot assuming pouliot isn't back on the moon...
@calithirteen Nash Brass Pulliot and 4th line Boyle - Dorsett and hopefully D. Moor
@calithirteen For that offer alone I will be in favor of keeping Pyatt.
@Rangers_54 Its a good decision imo. Hank played his tail off last night and kept his team in the game. Emotional games like last night take a lot out of players, just hoping Cam can pick up where the king left off.
@Rangers_54 I think we all would rather stick with the King, but here's a Devil's Advocate position: Gabby knows how to snipe Hank (2011/12 All-Star Game, anyone?), and Dubi & Arti know him well, too. Maybe someone with no history is not a bad idea. Just a thought.
