Chris Kreider is doing it all right now for the Rangers. Flying up and down the ice. Throwing his body around. Shooting bullets at the opposing goaltender. I guess I should say, doing it all, but scoring.
After netting two goals in his first five games after being recalled from Hartford, he now has gone scoreless in his last nine.
And it's not like he isn't generating chances as he has 19 shots and eight assists in those nine games, but he needs to start finding the back of the net.
Here's Kreider after last night's game in which he came up empty on all four of his shots including a penalty shot (via Bergen Record)...
"When your linemates are giving you opportunities and helping you to get chances you need to finish, you need to reward them."

Alain Vigneault discussed Kreider's chances...
"He did everything he's supposed to do tonight. His chances were grade A plus chances. His shots were grade A shots. Their goaltender made some great saves. Give him credit."

Here's Kreider's failed penalty shot...
...i'm really hesitant to criticize Kreider because he's been so good, dare I say dominant, since his recall. My hope is now that he's seemingly figured out what it takes to succeed at the NHL level, he'll begin working on other aspects of his game, specifically shooting, to take his play to the next level.
...what we as Rangers fans need to be more concerned about is the complete lack of scoring up and down the lineup. The Rangers haven't scored an even strength goal since the third period of the Devils game last Tuesday. The Rangers leading scorer, a tie between Ryan Callahan and Brad Richards, has just six goals. I don't care how many chances they're generating, that's putrid.
...thankfully, Nash is back in the lineup and if last night was any indication of what he's going to bring offensively, the Rangers misfortunes on the the offensive end should be ending real soon. His presence in the lineup immediately demands defensive attention opening up the ice for the rest of the team. Now, we just have to hope they start burying their shots.
Aside from half-hearting the penalty shot and blowing that golden chance in the 3rd, didn't notice the kid at all.
Give him time. Soon Kreids will start doing this...
How many shots did Stepan fan on last night? 6...7?
Enough making opposing goalies look great. Enough excuses. Put the friggin'puck in the net. And Hank looked terrible on the 2nd goal. Who was that shooting? Mike Gartner?
With the exception of Cally no one screens and we are horrific with deflections. PP is a joke again with guys standing around.
I love how not scoring hasn't deterred Kreider from shooting the puck. On the flip, Zuccs is killing me with his fancy shmancy pass attempts that ruin great scoring chances... SHOOT THE PUCK, Hobbit!!!!
Would like to see Kreider be a bit more patient when he has the puck on his stick. Seems like puck he gets it on his stick and shoots. Needs to maybe hold on and force the goalie to make first move in order to open some holes. As far as Cally. He will be fine. I think he is still getting his game back together. Remember he has not had that many games yet.
Am I the only one who really just hasn't been impressed with Cally's game? You take away the deflection goals of his and what has he really done? I love Cally, I do, but shit he's been pretty awful out there.
If they stick to what they've been doing it'll start working. Two mistakes and one of the best goal tenders in the world beat them yesterday, not poor play.
just think when he does start burying goals. O M G. Everyone is struggling to put the puck in the net right now but the team as a whole looks amazing, at least to me they are. Love the fast pace.
Also, Kreider is easily the best player on the Rangers right now... I am more worried about the terrible play from Hagelin and Callahan... which eventually has to be talked about no matter how much everyone wants to avoid it
I'd like to see Nash work with him on cutting to the middle when he's streaking down the boards, using his big body to protect the puck, get closer to the net and create chances and rebounds. He's hit a few posts, but its been a while since he had a goal, and more often than not, his shots sail wide or are kicked out and start the transition the other way, instead of pinning the opponent in their zone.
Rumor is Ottawa is interested in DZ.... Man I would love a DZ and Pouliot for Michalek and a 3rd trade. Even if he only has one year left like DZ... the guy can score
They are really all pressing right now because the puck isn't going in. They don't need to change anything about their approach, but they do need the dam to break to get things rolling offensively. If there's one problem to have offensively, it's the one they're having - generating a million chances and dominating the game but running into hot goaltending. It won't last forever.
@supermaz It was a breakaway opportunity for an NHL player. Give it up with this executing Hank crap.
@KLorNYR Zucc has had a few prime shooting opportunities over the last couple games where he has passed through traffic. He really does need to take advantage of the opportunities he's presented with.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Could Cally be dealling with another injury?
@KreiderisTheChosenOne I mentioned Hagelin in my game recap.
@johnnyb3910 I really hope Nash takes Kreider under his wing... He could teach him so much. Also, Kreider may be able to teach him a thing or two as well
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Not sure if we could get Michalek but I'd be interested in doing a swap for Mika Zibanejad. 20 years old, solid player, played in 64 games in his young career so far. Kid should end up being a good player.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne I don't Think Ottawa will take Pouliot in that deal, another former first round retread. I see them asking for MDZ & Kiisto for MM. Maybe send MDZ, ST Croix & a 4th Rounder. Could waive Pouliot and/or Pyatt to make cap sapce.
@RSJem Won't get any easier the next few games with Lehtonen and Bishop coming up. Hopefully we can start the ball rolling in Dallas and really open it up in Nashville and get on a roll.
@RSJem they're not running into hot goaltending, they're making the goaltender look hot!! shot placement! holding their damn sticks too tight!!
@GetTheKingACup The guy played out of his mind last night. That save off of Nash's deflection was all reaction and instinct on a shot heading into the top corner of the net. What else do you want to do on that play? Low shot, perfect deflection, and the guy got his glove on it.
I'm sure the Caps say the same thing you just did every spring when Hank stops every single thing they throw at him.
