One of the biggest complaints Rangers fans have had since players such as Brandon Prust, Brandon Dubinsky and Mike Rupp were moved out of town is the lack of retribution from the Blueshirts.
The last two years, we've seen Rick Nash concussed twice as well as Ryan McDonagh face planted in Montreal without even a nasty glare in response.
Well last night, Derek Dorsett finally said enough was enough when he did this after Brian Boyle was sent flying into the boards by Kevin Klein...
...i really didn't think the Klein hit was all that bad, but I don't care. Eff him. Couldn't have been more pumped up to see Dorsett have Boyle's back. And it looked like it also pumped up his teammates as their game significantly picked up after the fight culminating with the McDonagh goal just four minutes later.
...i don't want to sound too melodramatic, but the chemistry built through an incident such as this are how championship teams are born.
...and for the anti-retrobution crowd who always moan that an instigator penalty wouldn't be worth any payback. The last time I checked the box score, I didn't see Dorsett was assessed with one.
Exactly....the instigator penalty is one the least enforced penalties in the league. It is almost an unspoken rule that if someone runs a guy through expect retaliation and if it results in a fight then penalties for the 2 fighting parties will be assessed. Short of tomahawk chopping a player upside the helmet or attacking a defenseless player, they will never call an instigator penalty.
Dorsett may have stepped into Prust's role, but with no where near the success of Prust. Dorsett loses too many fights, like last night. I appreciate him sticking up for a teammate, though.
Kevin.......thought this hockey quote might be appropriate:
"Stick together, win together."
Inspirational movie quote:
“Neither do hockey players. Have you guys ever seen a flock of ducks flying in perfect formation? It’s beautiful. Pretty awesome the way they all stick together. Ducks never say die. Ever seen a duck fight? No way. Why? Because the other animals are afraid. They know that if they mess with one duck, they gotta deal with the whole flock. I’m proud to be a Duck, and I’d be proud to fly with any one of you. So how about it? Who’s a Duck?” – Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez)
does it make anyone else sick that someone Dorsett's size is "sticking up" for someone Boyle's size? I understand Boyle will never bang with true heavyweights his size, but Klein? could've and should've taken care of that himself.
Well said Kevin. I still say bring up Mashinter and Bickel. Then we would have some balls. Mashinter, Bickel and Dorsett would be this year's equivalent to the Rupp, Prust, Bickel combination that got us to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Although unrelated to the Dorsett fight, does anybody know why Talbots stats aren't on the NHL website, as far as I can see he should be top or almost top in both GAA and Save%, but there's no mention of him?
Ovi scored his 20th last night... How long do you think it will be until someone on our team has 20 goals? I think after the Olympics
Pavel Buchnevich might just be a steal with the 3rd round pick, incredible hands. 2G and 1A yesterday in Severstal vs Atlant.
I never lost faith in Dorsett for kind of an odd reason - I follow Mike Commodore on Twitter. He's hilarious, but unlike Bissonette, he has some valuable hockey insights, and he had interesting takes on the Columbus/Rangers deals having played with those guys. He raved about that deal and he said given time, Rangers fans would fall in love with Dorsett and he raved about him doing just that kind of stuff and made no secret of how much he respected him. He was right.
We need an all inclusive pass that allows mic's in the penalty box...I want to know what they are saying to each other lol.
We are finally beginning to witness this team starting to stick up for eachother. I loved how Kreider stuck up for his teammate a few games ago by cross checking the dude into the boards and I agree that the Dorsett fight last night really pumped up the team.
Battle level means everything. Totally agree. Could still use a physical force added to this team, How much better would we be than?
Dorsett is turning into the new prust right before our eyes... Believe it or not Brassard is looking like the worst player in that deal... I think its time to move him up with Nash and maybe move Richards to the wing... We have to get that guy jumpstarted already.
@Rich Buser Prust wasn't the best fighter. Him and Dorsett have the same problems. Both fight guys twice their size.
@EHBIGAPPLE Appropriate for what? This is not a Disney movie we live in. Third man in on a fight gets a game misconduct, ejected, and fined. Do you like inspirational movie quotes? Here's one for you from the Wizard of Oz... "If I only had a brain."
@Ryan Shupp Boyle did kind of just slam his head hard into the boards..but no, you're completely right, let him have a few punches to the head to really shake things up.
Boyle was a little shaken on the play as he landed awkwardly. When you're slow to get up you're usually not dropping the gloves right away. Besides, it was a clean hit. Klein took advantage of Boyle's stance and Dorsett took the opportunity to send a message. No, nothing to be sick about.
@johnpnj But what good would that do? Av would not play them AV likes a pussy team!
@johnpnj Agreed! Sather and A.V. are throwing Dorsett under the bus leaving him the lone 'enforcer' on the team having to deal with the heavyweights of other teams. Along with Dorsett, I would replace Pouliot with Mashinter and DelZotto with McIllrath, and then bring up Bickel whenever the matchup necessitates. This is a Ranger team I can love!
@Dennosaw he hasnt played enough games
... plus the guy can actually skate and play in different situations. This is the modern tough guy ... nothing against Dorsett, we just want a larger one.
@jslnyr1102 A physical D-man who's willing to drop the gloves to protect his mates would be nice to have... oh wait.. we have one, FALK!
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Let's also remember the linemates Brassard has had this season compared to last season. He hasn't exactly been put in the greatest position to succeed. Now he's with a Hagelin who has regressed a shit ton and Pouliot who, while not being awful over the past few games, is still Pouliot.
Brass is just another one of those enigmatic Zherdev, EC types. Moving him around might help short term
@PenaltySh0t Prust is a much tougher fighter than Dorsett.
Despite Dorsett's willingness this team needs to get a bit tougher. Been Saying that for 6 months... Sather has to do something here.
They may have the same problems, but Prust is in a different league when it comes to fighting
My quote stands for how important TEAM is to me.....how important it is for my team to pull together and protect one another in any walk of life, not just hockey!
Your quote to me reveals how you think about yourself and my quote to you reveals how I think of myself...........We only see and appreciate others the way we see and appreciate ourselves.
Disagreeing with my quote is fine......"but the brain thing".........why I bet you 3 beers that you are a lot smarter than what you give yourself credit for.
Bickel doesn't quite cut it at the NHL level. Mashinter may yet, but he has yet to put it together at this level. Bickel got a good shot and hasn't upped his game. Mashinter has got some good experience and we'll see more of him. His skill set is much more promising as far as NHL success goes. Otherwise, this plan of bringing in Bickel and Mashinter is a recipe for a lot of losses. We're winning now, guys.
Thought that's probably why, I guess once he hits 7 games like Andreson & Mazanec we'll see him up there, cheers guys
@KLorNYR Wait till Boo Nieves is ready to play with the big boys. Man is ripping it up at Michigan.....
@jslnyr1102 ...and Mash!!! Also, what ever happened to John Moore sticking up for teammates? He really impressed me last season with the 2 fights he had. I don't think he's had one since!
Isn't Neil getting up there age wise? The style is good, but we don't want a Rupp or a clowe. Old = slow and injury prone.
@KLorNYR Chris Neil might be on the block soon, Slats might be interested.
