Alain Vigneault has announced that Justin Falk will be the healthy scratch for tonight's game in Dallas with the insertion of Michael Del Zotto back into the lineup.
Vigneault added that while he liked what Falk gave the team the last three games he wanted two puck moving defensemen in the lineup against Dallas.
AV added that Del Zotto will be placed on the second power play.
...while I feel Moore could have used a night in the press box, if AV feels he needs a fast team to neutralize what Dallas is trying to do, it's hard for me argue. Although I am concerned that Falk's absence leaves the Rangers vulnerable to some rough stuff from the Stars.
...Del Zotto is obviously being given a big chance to redeem himself by not only being put back in the lineup but also on the power play. We can only hope he finally takes advantage.
No other lineup changes were reported meaning J.T. Miller will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game.
Vigneault explained the decision by citing the Rangers strong offensive game against Boston and not wanting to mess with it.
...again, I get the reasoning, but at what expense? It does Miller nor the organization any good letting him rot in the press box. While I'd much rather see Miller take Pouliot's spot, if AV doesn't agree, the Rangers should still do the right thing for the 2011 first round pick's development and send him back to Hartford.
...i thought Pouliot looked strong in the first period Tuesday night against the Bruins, but as been the case this season, hell, his entire career, his game become inconsistant and eventually non-existant.
Henrik Lundqvist will be back in goal tonight.
...i thought there was a possibility AV might go with Talbot tonight, so this is a strong statement by the Rangers head coach that he still believes in his starting netminder despite some fans who apparently don't.
As I've been watching McD on the powerplay, he's been making some amazing plays to keep pucks in the zone, as well as a few fancy offensive moves to get around defenders. When they happen, I immediately think, DelZ wouldn't have done that. It'll be interesting to see what he does tonight. When all eyes are on him to prove his worth, hopefully he'll step it up.
I've been all for his increased physical presence (unnoticed?) in the last year, when the team was in dire need of it. At the same time, I see him as a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde (he'll turn into "Smellzotto" as we say here, and then make up for it with a great play). Last years PP seemed to be failing with a combo of Richards being hesitant, and failure at the blue line, so I'm not sure anymore. He's definitely improved. I want to close my eyes when he takes a shot and not expect to hear "wide of the net"
My questioning of Lundqvist has nothing to do with faith or belief. I know he's our #1, I know how good he can be, has been, will continue to be, etc. Its just put under a microscope with the ongoing contract negotiations. Knowing that behind closed doors he's probably demanding to be the highest paid goalie in the league, I'd just like him to show it a little more consistently. I'm sure he would, too, and that he's putting extra pressure on himself.
With the exception of the first 10 minutes of the Penguins game, I really haven't felt like he was "the difference". He's had plenty of brilliant saves, but if he wants to be the highest paid player on the team, he can't complain when we don't have more scorers in our lineup.
3rd worst team this season with a 1-3 record against backups
I don't think it's that fans don't believe in Lundqvist, it's more just whether you feel like he's been playing well. I, for one, don't think he's been playing that well and how many goals he's allowed is not good measuring stick. It's how many quality chances he's faced in the last 3 games vs. how many quality saves he's made. He needs to be better. I think he'd even admit that. Once he gets going, the Rangers will start sizzling.
Scratch pouliot... He has not produced and is not going to be in there future.. Miller is.. he's a talented player. . Start him now so he gets the experience. . Pouliot and Pyatt need to go.. keep del zotto. He's only 23.. give this kid time to grow
strong offensive game... love hearing that from a coach when you score 1 goal on 44 shots... Jeez. They might have played well... but they still can't score... Strong offensive game is the biggest joke I have ever heard
"AV explained the decision by citing the Rangers strong offensive game against Boston..."
Indeed! An offensive explosion! Man, friends and family say I'm such a pessimist when it comes to the Rangers but it gets tiresome reading this crap sometimes. When will there be some accountability...will I ever read in a paper, "Yes, so and so just plain sucks."
By the way, if Pyatt is skating again, who sits when he comes back?
If they weren't on the road, Miller would probably be in Hartford. With this road trip, it seems like AV wanted to keep his options open. Once they get back up in the Northeast (before Bruin game), wouldn't be surprised if he does go down to Hartford then.
Not the best situation for Miller, but we are talking four games for the NYR here, where he could play at some point and he still practices with the team. Hartford only has two games in that same timespan (I'm not counting the 11/29 WolfPack game).
@forthewinn He has to hold the NHL record for missing the net.
@johnnyb3910 I agree that the diva attitude has to go, but Lundqvist is definitely not the problem. 2 goals in 3 games is, and if the Rangers want to sniff the playoffs, that has to change.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne I don't have an insider account. What two teams could possibly be worse than us? And I'm assuming its just this season's stats? There's no way were not the worst of the past 3-5 years.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne I don't know. They were strong offensively as evidenced by the 44 shots. But I guess it doesn't matter when you only score once.
@Purinton "When will there be some accountability...will I ever read in a paper, "Yes, so and so just plain sucks." In all fairness, they had that and the players responded by tuning out the coach. Not exactly the tact to take right now, all things considered. :)
@Purinton Pouliot to the press box. Miller to Hartford.
@1NYN8V I hear what you're saying, but if the Rangers just needed an emergency forward for the trip, they could have sent Miller down & recalled Mashinter.
@Kevin DeLury @1NYN8V I don't think it's so much an emergency forward in AV's mind so much as a matchup forward depending on the opponent. At least that's the impression I've gotten from him on some of the decisions he's made.
And how did I know Mashinter's name would show up in response?? It's uncanny that crystal ball I have!! :)
