According to the New York Rangers, Ryan Callahan practiced in a contact jersey for the first time since breaking his thumb during the Rangers 2-0 victory in Washington on October 17th. His estimated return remains at 7-10 days.
During practice, Callahan was paired with Justin Falk as the eighth defenseman and also did some light shooting.
Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Callahan will continue to wear a small protective cast on his thumb when he resumes playing.
...after seeing the jolt that Hagelin has given the line-up, I'm beside myself excited for Callahan's return.
...with how well everyone's been playing, I wonder where Callahan is going to fit in, especially with D. Moore (oblique) expected to return around the same time. You'd have to assume Pyatt and Mashinter are the likely line-up casualties.
...going to check with the NHL later today to see if Callahan can in fact play in a suit of armor to cut down the risk of injuries due to blocking shots.
Tempers. Falk and Miller start shoving and exchanging words in front of net at practice— Steve Zipay (@stevezipay) November 1, 2013
...absolutely love this! Proves these guys are going hard in practice, which will only make them that much better in games.
I'm worried that there's not even been a single snippet, a single leak, NOTHING about Nash. Also, is Cally rushing back? I hope not. Don't they use some type of device in pro sports that makes the bone knit faster? Anyone know?
Chances are Sinker will stay as a 4th liner and on PK. Probably will lose Miller unfortunately as well as Mash, though I hope not. I'd like to see both of them stay. Miller's been really good and I too believe Mash has skill and can play - not just a goon but maybe it's a good problem when you have to send a guy who's playing well back to the minors.
I swear every fuckin day this fuckin website takes longer and longer to fuckin load. I don't know what's slower, trying to type a comment on my iPhone or Pyatt trying to skate the length of the ice.
By the time Cally gets back Rangers should have a good idea which line combos not to change if they continue to win or play well.Whatever line Cally goes on he is going to bring more spark to the Rangers.
I love how every time someone is coming back from injury we assume Pyatt is the roster casualty. But then he never is. Ha.
Callahan to replace DZ? is that why he is practicing as the 8th dman? YESSSSS!!!!!!

@Betweentheworlds What's a sinker ?
@TheKing Nice language you are using. Do you know that some young kids also use this site? Let's keep this site civil so everyone can enjoy it.
@TheKing I'd love to see Sinker (Pyatt) and Lead Foot (Boyle) in a board to board race - but my only concern is that I'm not a young man lol
@NYR44 Fingers crossed, but we already know he's a coach's pet. Wouldn't mind it if Mash went back for more playing time/seasoning. Long season, someone else is bound to get hurt...
And yes, love to see some snarling in practice!!!
@GiveGartneraCup He's like a cockroach. lol
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Definite upgrade on defense. Guess the Sedins are enjoying Torts.
@IcyCup not sure if im being made fun of or not lol
I've been think about this a bit...is dz more of a forward? I know this would be a last ditch scenario with him, but...what if he becomes such a liability on d that we give him a chance as a 3rd line left winger and see what happens?
@IcyCup oh ok, just wasnt sure if it was sarcastic or not...been following the blog for a while now and usually just read the comments so i can follow whats going on
@shoot_the_goalie @johnAMIRANTESrug This sounds like a Delzaster waiting to happen - but maybe he wouldn't be such a liability on the wing. IDK - brought up at 19, pretty much unheard of as a dman. Good set of skills but too soft a shot to be a legit PP QB - problem in his head, not his skates or stick. Just an enigma if you ask me. Now he has a coach who doesn't breathe down his neck and still - nothing but mediocre play and errors. Maybe he's sniffing too much glue...
@johnAMIRANTESrug Me too, but I think the reality is that DelZ would not get you back as much as he used to.
@johnAMIRANTESrug I suggested this idea to my brother, just to give it a try. But then I remembered that Del Zotto is only 23 years old and is second on team with career points for defensemen (he has more than McD, Staal, everyone but Girardi and Girardi has played 500 games and has 154 points. Del Z has 112 in 260.) He's frustrating, and if we can trade him for someone actually truly incredible then do it...but for now I can be patient with him on the third pairing.
