The New York Rangers (13-13-0) lost to the Boston Bruins (17-7-2) by the score of 3-2, today. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
...through two periods I was really loving this Rangers team. They scored goals driving to the net and with traffic in front. They were sticking up for one another and standing up to Lucic. Then the third period started and it all came crashing down. I know it was the final day of their five game road trip, but they have to suck it up and finish that game.
...if the last two games haven't showed you how important a solid power play is, I don't know what will. Won them a game in Florida they probably shouldn't have and was one of the biggest reasons for the loss today.
...since I don't have the words in my vocabulary to describe how awesome that Nash goal was, here's the video...
...it's funny, we all complained about how the Rangers couldn't create chemistry with Torts always mixing up the lines, now AV is sticking with some of them for too long. How painfully ironic.
...in the past, we've always wondered where the Rangers would be without Lundqvist. Well, I guess now we know, because the guy wearing his jersey this season is not him.
...Staal on the verge of rivaling Del Zotto for worst Rangers defenseman, with Girardi on both their tails.
...that's usually a game Callahan thrives in. Not so much today.
...i give Boyle all the credit in the world for sticking up for Pyatt and fighting Chara, but it only exacerbates the need for a big, bruising forward on this team, who can throw down.
...becoming a bigger Falk fan by the day. Earned a ton of points in my book for standing up to Lucic and clearing out the crease all afternoon. If AV us looking to get Del Zotto back in the lineup tomorrow, I'd rather see Staal watching than Falk.
...what's the old saying, you are what your record says you are. Well that makes the Rangers a very mediocre team right now. I really don't think they need to make a trade for goal scoring, because they're generating chances, they're just not finishing. What they need to add is toughness. Sure, I liked a lot of what they did physically today, but it's just not enough if they want to make a serious run at the Cup. Since it's not very likely Chris Neil will be available, I think Sather needs to do whatever he can to obtain Steve Ott from Buffalo. Brings a physical element the Rangers just don't have, plus the 31-year old is in the final year of his contract.
...no time to dwell on this one, as our old friend Torts and the Canucks visit MSG tomorrow afternoon. Wonder if there will be a video montage of his greatest post game quotes.
Alain Vigneault was not happy with his team's effort (via Bergen Record)...
“We got exactly what we deserved,” said Vigneault, nixing the notion this was a lost opportunity for the Rangers. “We had too many guys with their B game on the ice against a Stanley Cup finalist, a team that was obviously not happy with their performance (after a 6-1 loss to the Red Wings). We came in here, I thought, with a lot on the line and should have been very motivated. We could have made this a real solid road trip instead of making it an OK road trip (3-2-0). Too many guys, their execution and their compete level…we got exactly what we deserved. We didn’t deserve to come out of here with a win and we didn’t.”
“Our lack of consistency has been an ongoing issue here with a few of our players and we’re a .500 hockey team right now,” Vigneault said. “And that’s definitely not good enough.”
...preach on AV. What the newspapers didn't report is that AV gave them orange slices and read them a story after the game.
I think the toughness thing has gotten better ,but we need a real fighter, dorsetts scrappy but not big enough to trade with the bigger fighters in the league.lets get prust back.
Boyle should be embarrassed with that girly attempt at protecting a teammate. While I appreciated his standing up, he looks so pathetic in a physical confrontation for a guy his size, it makes one wonder why he didn't choose baseball as his sport rather than hockey.
Nash is only just back, this team needs more time to play together, one legitimate tough guy and another sharp shooter from the point. Let's be patient although as a long suffering Ranger fan I get it , easier said them done
I think a multiplayer deal will happen soon with an emphasis of reinforcing the 3 and 4 lines with more physical players. It is obvious that the top 2 lines will not succeed or any of our more less physical defensemen if this does not occur. There is not an appropriate mix of creative and physical players on this team.
You know what, if the Rangers would have the like of Prust and Rupp. Lucic would be hiding under his bed.
I whole heartedly agree with Kevin, the lack of toughness is killing them.
Not mediocre.lazy.these guys- these Rangers- do mostly have talent, but some are floaters now and then and its costing the team. Hagelin, Callahan,Richards,Lundqvist. Staal. Stepan.all playing lazy.and we all know they can play better.Plain lazy for some reason. Can't win with half the team taking the game off..Inexcusable
You're such a pessimist!!!! Look at the kings two years ago. This is garbage time right now. It's all about getting hot and clicking at the right times.
AV to Sather-
"We need toughness, Prust me!"
How oh how can we get him back???
Also- when you lose faith in your team, your heart can't be in it. When your heart ain't in it, you can still play great if you are freakishly talented, but you WILL give up one bad goal per game
When we have the cap room near the deadline I think Sather really goes for it. IMO we can make a deep run with 2-3 additions.
Dubinsky and Prust are sorely missed. Both took nothing from anyone. I would love to find a way to get Dubinsky back. He had a twinkle of Graves in him.
We all want Ott.....get in line so does the rest of the league. Many playoff bound teams have a lot more to give Buffalo for Ott's services and can create more Cap space in the process......Pens would be a great fit.
Idk but a couple of people on twitter, obviously nothing concrete, have been saying there is talk of DZ and a couple of picks for Evander Kane (he hasn't scored in 13 games... take him while you can get him low)... obviously I am taking it with a grain of salt..... BUT PLEASE!!!!
I guess I am an optimist because I see a lot of positives and as the kinks, hiccups, gaffs, and generally inconsistent play work themsves out I believe with a few minor tweaks, some puck luck, and the guys hitting their stride we could pull a kings alla 11-12! LGR!!!
Chris Neil for the Macroni Kid.. I would give them maybe Pyatt or Pouliot too.. Maybe we could get more players too with that deal??
Ottawa is still interested (I don't know why) in DelZotto. Sather has got to act soon before they wake up and smell the coffee. DelZotto and Pouliot for Gryba and Zack Smith...please!
@johnpnj I agree 100 %. Sticking up for your teammates is great, fighting like a 14 year old girl, not so much. We need a real enforcer. Boyle is an embarrassment when he drops his gloves. He's 6'7 and has been in the NHL for almost 7 years and it hasn't occurred to him to take boxing lessons ? Really ? Even Rosen & Micheletti couldn't help but comment that its bizarre someone his size, that is a staple on the 3rd/4th line is such a bad fighter.
Evander Kane is the ultimate missing piece of the puzzle. By having him Rangers will be better than Bruins.
@AnnoyingJoe Naaaahhh..... Munn :) ?
Love the optimism! Agree we're not that far. Skeptical that Slats will make the right move and that AV can coach this team to achieve.
Neil would look so good in Rangers blue, especially given the fact that he manages to single handedly f*ck up half our team every time we play them.
@McIlrath lol...I agree
@Betweentheworlds I deleted my comment which was an over reaction and apologize....this team is driving me nuts
@jslnyr1102 @Betweentheworlds @EHBIGAPPLE OMG - this blog really needs a "sarcasm button" - what I meant by my reply JSL was that amidst these comment streams filled with reactionary knee jerk comments it was nice to see yours which was an intelligent, non-wordy and accurate assessment of our team right now IMHO - sorry if it didn't read that way
@jslnyr1102 Perhaps he wasn't being "a wise ass." But rather he was acknowledging your wisdom!
