It's official, I'm addicted to the Rangers. Yesterday, I was like an alcoholic swearing off booze the morning after my beer goggles failed me yet again. I was done with the Blueshirts. But apparently 24 hours of wretched Rangers withdrawals wasn't enough, as, like the alcoholic I mentioned, I'm officially back off the wagon and feeling good about the Rangers chances of becoming a part of NHL lore.
In the history of the NHL, only three teams have comeback from an 0-3 deficit, so I figured I'd get some good karma going on the blog today with some video of each one...
1942 Maple Leafs...
...i promise this'll be the last time you ever see anything positive about the Islanders on the blog.
...ditto for the Flyers. Although this video was pretty good.
...the Rangers have given us absolutely no reason to believe they're going to be the fourth team to overcome this seemingly insurmountable deficit, but I'm assuming the Maple Leafs, Islanders and Flyers fan bases felt the exact same way after they're team went down 0-3 as well.
...the reason I still have a sliver of faith this Rangers team can come back and win this series can be summed up in two words "Henrik" "Lundqvist."
...so hey, why not us?
I'll tell you why not . People keep bring up the 2010 Bruins who lost after being up 3 games to none againt the Flyers. The Flyers went on to the Stanley Cup Finals that year after beating the NJ Devils in 5 games the Bruins in 7 and the Montreal Canadians in 5 games. They ended up losing the Stanley Cup to the Chicago Blackhawks in 6 Games. They beat some very good teams to get to represent the East for the Cup. The 2010 Bruins had lost 3 starting defencemen in Dennis Seidenburg, Mark Stuart and Adam McQuaid and 2 forwards in David Krejci and Marco Sturm to injuries during or before that playoff round. They also had a number of other players who were far from 100% playing because of the aforementioned players were already out of the lineup. I also keep hearing about the AHL team the Providence Bruins who just lost a series after being up 3 games to none. Well that team lost their top 2 defencemen Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug to a call up to their parent club the Boston Bruins during that series. I'm sure NY Ranger fans know who Krug is, he's the rookie who has 2 goals angainst the 'King" and also assisted on another goal and is helping to hold the Rangers to less than 2 goals a game. Plain and sinple the 2013 Rangers are not the 2010 Flyers, that team could actually score goals. Another thing I keep hearing is Ranger defence pairings and how Dan Girardi should be playing with Ryan McDonagh and not Michael Del Zotto . Well hows this, every Bruin defence pairing has a rookie on it. Along with Krug & Bartkowski the other rookie defencemen is Dougie Hamilton. I doesn't matter if they split their best defencemen or not the Bruins forth line scored both goals against the Rangers the other night while half of the Rangers bench doesn't see the ice for most of the game. The Rangers don't even have a wing and a prayer to win 4 straight games. Yes they do have a great goaltender in Henrik Lundqvist but look up Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask's stats and they are almost identical to Lundqvist's. except for more wins of course. Soo.......Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey'ey GOODBYE!! Na Na.......
As a wise man once said, "it wasn't over when the Germans bombed petal harbour..." I'll stop believing in blue this season When they lose best of seven series. Tonight all I hope for is a big ranger win at MSG.
Your pleasure/pain will soon be over. I am a rabid fan but also realistic. Put a fork in them - they're done.
As much as it pains me tot say it, The Bs are just better. They're bigger, deeper and a more well rounded team. It's Septan, Brossard and that's it for the center position. That needs to be a focus this offseason. They also need another big time scorer.
I have to admit that I'm stubborn and still haven't lost hope, but realistically, they can't rely on Lundqvist and Lundqvist alone. The journey to a Stanley Cup must be a whole team effort to be successful, and it pains me to say it, but I haven't seen a whole team effort in either playoff series from this team.
Is he a poor captain or a realist?
The full quote, via Erin Nicks of NHL.com, after Alfredsson was asked if it was feasible his team could win three in a row:
"Probably not," Alfredsson said. "[Pittsburgh's] depth and our play right now … it doesn't look too good.
Jobs could be riding on effort alone tonight, so hopefully that will motivate them enough to see some passion.
It's over Johnny:
Bring the pain tonight boys!! LET"S GO RANGERS!!!!!
No question, anything is possible. Can Rangers win next 4 games? Absolutely, but they must play desperate hockey, get some good bounces and unbelievable performance from Lundqvist in net. Hope still lives! LGR!
Another character game for the blueshirts. Would like to see something on the ice tonight that shows that they still give a damn about salvaging a game or two.
I don't really believe that the Rangers will lose tonight, but I also said that 3 times already. I just hope for an entertaining game and a great effort on the ice.
As we all are freaking out about where the Rangers are and how badly Rick Nash has played. Think about the Blackhawks and their fans. Jonathan Toews, Captain Clutch.....has less goals than Rick Nash does in this playoffs. ZERO. They didn't lose in 20 plus straight games this season and they are down 2-1, with a realistic chance of going down 3-1. I get it, our passion and frustration both run high---but after the midpoint of this season if you would have told me we would be in Round 2 of the playoffs, I would have called you crazy. I will enjoy this ride and expect a stellar effort win or lose tonight from the boys. My thought---start the game with Dorsett, Asham and Boyle---and tell them to take no prisoners....SET THE TONE!
So many reasons why "not us" but hey, its not over until the fat lady sings. She's all warmed up and ready, though...
C'mon man even if we pull off the impossible and get to the next round the Pens will embarrass this team. #nohopeforthecup
As crazy as it may sound the last thing i want to happen is the Rangers win 1, 2, 3 or 4 games because of HANK! If they win i want all Ranger fans to say we won this Game(s) because of the their heart and grit and because the team stepped up. I want Torts to finally be a human being and say he realized he needed to mix things up a bit and move out of his own comfort zone. I want him to have a normal press conference and admit he made some mistakes but that is behind him.
Holy Crap.....I must have been dreaming again!
"like the alcoholic I mentioned, I'm officially back on the wagon"
Kevin...are you saying that you fell off the wagon so that you could get back on the wagon? :)
The Bruins AHL team lost an 3-0 lead on my hometown Wilkes-Barre Penguins. Hopefully father is like son here!
Thank you Kevin! I'm on an Acela Penn Station bound specifically to throw some good vibes around. (And maybe conduct some business). Let''s go Rangers!!!!
Thank you Kevin, exactly what I was looking for this morning. Stop talking about next year and firing coaches and players to bring in. Start getting pumped up for tonight. While it might seem impossible until that clock strikes 0:00 I still believe in this team. Providence Bruins just blew a 3-0 series lead lets put the Boston Bruins right there with them.
@_Jack He's Swedish.
@RobertChiarello LOL! Yeah I messed that up. I never know which is off and which is on. HAHAHA!
