Staal Clowe Powe not on ice for Rangers optional.— Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) May 16, 2013
...assuming no one is surprised by this. I don't even want to speculate when either of these guys will be available. Maybe, Game 3 the earliest. I'd say Clowe is probably closer than Staal.
Luckily for the Rangers, the Bruins are just a beat up and will likely be relying on inexperienced defensemen tonight....
Julien also says "doesn't look good" for Ference, Seidenberg and Redden.— Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) May 16, 2013
Filling in for those three will be Matt Bartkowski (20 career regular season games), Torrey Krug (3 career regular season games) and Dougie Hamilton (42 career regular season games). Both Bartkowski and Hamilton played in the epic Game 7 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (Bartkowski scored) while Krug was recalled from the Providence Bruins of the AHL.
...with three young guys on defense for the Bruins tonight, establishing a forecheck early will be more important then ever for the Rangers. Have to assume constant pressure on the inexperienced defensemen should lead to numerous turnovers and increased time in Boston's endzone.
Also of note, Bruins forward Brad Marchand left this morning's skate “wincing in pain” after what appeared to be an injury, but will play tonight.
...another huge break for the Rangers if Marchant will be compromised tonight in any way.

And that's the top ten as far as who is playing in the NYR / Boston series.
Kinda surprised reading the comments & Kev's preview that not everyone is as confident as I am. Its my belief that teh rangers turned a corner in the Caps series & found a new level of play/confidence. I say that as someone who thought we were going to lose to the Caps. I think we are going to win this series in 6. I really believe that. Not only have we found that new level I think the Bruins have been inconsistent all year. They should have been beaten by Leafs but thru their grit, experience & alot of help from an inexperienced team (the Leafs) theysurvived round 1. They better bring a better game then that cause no way hank is giving them 4-goals a game. Again rangers in 6!!!!
I don't want to underestimate their kids. These guys are getting an opportunity and you better believe they're psyched to compete. Don't let them get comfortable.
Any idea when these three might return to the lineup? I read that Ference was seen walking in a boot and on crutches, but what might the timetable on the return be? Key to the series could be to keep it short and not let these guys return
The anticipation is mounting. I know that @GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG must be going nuts right about now, along with a ton of other Rangers fans.
Thanks for the new posts and updates throughout the day! It helps ...
Can we please take advantage of these inexperienced D? Is there a game plan? Can we exploit them specifically? I know the Bruins will still be plenty competitive and they're going to make us work, but tonight would be a great night to find some offense along with a strong physical presence, solid work along the boards, and just consistent, poised play.
LET'S GO RANGERS !!!!!
@ThrSage Hope you are right, but there have been a lot of times this year when I though the rangers turned a corner only to have them revert to their old ways. If Ference and Seidenberg are out for any length of time that will certainly help though.
Besides Ference walking in a boot all I've heard is "day to day" and stuff ... I imagine they'll continue to keep it pretty quiet about their guys ...
@AG_Blue we need to be able to work the puck in and put pressure on them; force them to make mistakes. I can see Hags, Cally, maybe even Kreider playing a big role on the forecheck and wreaking havoc down low.
Would love to get to them early in this series. Confidence is everything in hockey especially with young players and if we can get in their heads early on and make them uncomfortable it will be a huge advantage
@AG_Blue Got to assumed the Rangers have a lengthy scouting report on all three.
