Breathe.... being a Ranger fan should come with free ventilators.
Brassard continues to be the Rangers best player on the ice not named Henrik Lundqvist. Not only is he living up to his high draft status, but is also making Sather and his infamous trades look pretty good as well. 2-5-7 this series.
On the flip side of the coin, Nash (1 shot) continues to struggle. His wrist has to be hurting as he continues to favor his backhand when the puck manages to find his stick. Can't think of another valid reason for his absence from the scoresheet.
Richards' game also continues to fall off the proverbial cliff.... 9:34 TOI and nearly half was spent on the power play. Amazing how the Rangers' deficiencies go hand in hand.
The Rangers dominated puck possession in the first 40 minutes before falling back and playing defense in the third. Winning faceoffs consistently in all 3 zones might have had something to do with it.
I wish Boyle would play every game like it was the playoffs, the guy saves his best stuff for the postseason...
Good work by the Rangers to stay within themselves and not afford the Caps a power play opportunity. Its been a killer all series long.
Stralman, after an atrocious Game 1 has been excellent since. Perhaps getting away from his pairing with Del Zotto has been the catalyst in his game. Speaking of DZ, only 1 point this series and hasn't scored since the middle of March with only a handful of assists to go along with it. Had higher hopes for the guy in the series because he was so good against Washington last postseason, but now his top 4 job has been taken by a trade deadline acquistion... not taking anything away from John Moore withstanding.
With Game 7 tomorrow, the Rangers need their best players to finally step up (specifically their captain) and push the Rangers into the second round. Relying on secondary scoring and Lundqvist's stellar play in net can only take them so far in the postseason before they run out of gas.

Interesting comments below (just getting time to catch up on Rangers swag) - my 2 cents would be the Captain has been there even if not on the scoresheet, little things like taking a man out to get Step open for the game winner in game 4, and Nashty's well timed screen has been well covered here. As a team we are doing OK and the coach (who doesn't get my praise too often lol) has adapted well to the lack of scoring from the scorers, as he seems to thrive in low scoring affairs. Yeah, we need Nash to score, agreed and if he can do that tonight we have a great shot at winning but remember (Nash critics) his mere presence on the ice is helping us as long as he doesn't make costly errors. Last game especially he''d done plenty of little things on the ice to help his team - things that go unnoticed unless the team scores (like the Brass-man goal) or a goal is prevented.
If the power play was just AVERAGE and cally, nash, or richie was getting on the score sheet we would have won in 5 or MAYBE 6. Shows how good of a team we really are if we were firing on all cylinders. Still pumped. LETS GET EM RANGERS
so interesting how people are getting on Callahan for not scoring n throwing him in the same mix as struggling Nash and Richards. Cally may not be scoring but he is as always contributing in so many other ways that enable this team to have a chance to win. Richards is awful yet Torts continues to place him on the powerplay unit so we can watch him force a bad pass or a lousy shot off of an opponent which leads to an odd man rush the other way. Del Zotto looks like he has regressed to point of pee wee hockey. Dropping to the ice way to early and too often. The caps are just waiting for him to drop to blow past and get a quality scoring opportunity on Lundquist. And yet again, there is torts playing DZ on the power play. Mid March was the last time he scored. 2 players who contributing big time to the Rangers' lackluster powerplay. I have had with torts.
Can someone confirm that that was the countdown-Ovi sucks chant at 8:08 of the third period?
If so, that is absolutely amazing.
Maple Leafs look to be capable of forcing the game 7 also! The winners tomorrow night end up playing each other. Unbelievable!
I don't think it's possible girardi is a human being. He's more than likely a robot from outer space, he's quietly one of the best defenseman in the game and he gets no recognition and just goes about his game
I have a better chance of sleeping with Kate Upton than the Rangers have of scoring on the power play with Del Zotto and Richards on the ice at the same time
I thought DZ had a better game tonight. Was a little more physical. He plays better when he his more physical. giggity. But all around his game needs to be elevated to how it was earlier in the season. Also Kreider should get some time with Nash. Just double shift Nash.
Richards also stopped a goal from Zuke? after a beautiful cross ice pass from Brassard as a PP ran out w 4 mins left if I'm not mistake.
As nice as a win is, I just wanted to point out that this is the fourth time this series the Rangers have scored 1 or 0 goals.
I am hoping that Kreider gets some power play time tomorrow night. I know that Torts does not trust him but he should be open to using him in 5 on 4 situations. They are going to need to score on the power play tomorrow night. They are fortunate that the Caps didn't have one today.
Nash played an excellent game. He applied a lot of pressure in the offensive zone and had a hand in the only goal, occupying the space in front of Holtby.
@Tankdude caps fans are STILL whining about his "slewfoot" on Green. Doing his job hehe.
@Tankdude No question. He made an impact.
yeah - when I saw that Richards stop it reminded me of Boyles ass doing the same thing in last season's playoffs.
@Zelrio Kings won the Cu last yr scoring 57 goals in 20 games!!!!! Not even 3 per game take out the last game where they scored 6 & they got to within 1 win of capturing the Cup scoring 51goals in 19 games. They won most of theiir games 2- or 1-0. All this kvetching about the Rangers lack of scoring is pointless, they are who they are. They are not nor are they ever going to be a high scoring team. they don't have the talent for that. They have to win w-defense & goaltending 1-0 or 2-1.
@Zelrio well, 1 more win and we get to reset :)
He played Kreider w-Stepan/Callynfor 1-shift which is something he should done b4. If he so worried about Kreider being a liability on D then he should play him w-them more since they r both so good defensively. His size is a nice compliment to that line & w-Kreider natural goal scoring ability he will find the right places to score & w-Steps vision it could lead to some goals. When u think about it it's the perfect line combo. A great combo of speed playmaking & grit
@Dminches Idk about Kreider up there, doesn't seem like he is going to play Kreider at all. However, they definitely need a PP goal tomorrow if they want to win in the Verizon Center!
@rangermom Oh, man. I really hope that this becomes a Rangers tradition. I frickin' love how it was initially done to mock the Sens' Alfie-chant, and then it naturally transitioned to Ovechkin.
@zelrio I actually agree. Should amend my initial reply to say that my son and his friend were chanting it. I don't like it, especially when Ovi is on the ice in our zone. Bad juju.
Same here. I mean, dude is a Hart Trophy finalist. All of the "______ sucks" chants are low hanging fruit.
True but he has size to create a screen. W-Nash struggling I would like to see Nash moved to the front of the net on the PP w-his size he could create more of a screen in front Holtby. Plus maybe he gets a deflection or rebound/garbage goal sometimes that gets scores who r slumping going.
